  • Patent number: 10226206
Abstract: Disclosed herein are systems and methods for monitoring one or more of cerebral oxygenation and total hemoglobin concentration that can be used to perform accurate, noninvasive measurement of cerebral venous blood oxygen saturation (oxygenation) in neonatal patients. A neonatal cerebral oxygenation detection apparatus comprises a wearable support having a light emitter and an acoustic sensor coupled thereto. The wearable support can be secured onto a head of an infant, and the light emitter can be configured to emit a light toward a superior sagittal sinus of the infant's head. The acoustic sensor can be configured to detect acoustic pressure generated by blood in the superior sagittal sinus when the superior sagittal sinus blood absorbs the light. Cerebral oxygenation and/or total hemoglobin concentration can be determined based on the acoustic pressure detected by the acoustic detector.

  • Patent number: 10219746
Abstract: An embodiment of the present disclosure seeks to select characteristics of incoming intensity data that cause comparisons of selected characteristics to produce defined probe off space having reduced crossover with defined probe on space. Once defined, the present disclosure compares characteristics of incoming intensity data with the now defined probe off space, and in some embodiments, defined probe on space, to determine whether a probe off condition exists. When a processor determines a probe off condition exists, the processor may output or trigger an output signal that audibly and/or visually indicates to a user that the optical sensor should be adjusted for a proper application to a measurement site.

  • Patent number: 10105090
Abstract: A non-invasive method of detecting anomalous tissue, such as cancerous or injured tissue, in a patient. At least two hemoglobin signal components of hemoglobin levels in at least one segment of tissue of the patient are non-invasively measured over time. Time varying changes of at least a first of the hemoglobin signal components are measured with respect to at least time varying changes of a second of the hemoglobin signal components. A co-varying coordinate system of the time varying changes is generated. Any anomalous tissue in the measured segment of tissue is detected from a signature of the measured segment of tissue in the co-varying coordinate system which differs from a signature of non-anomalous tissue in the co-varying coordinate system. Preferably, five hemoglobin signal components are measured: oxyHb, deoxyHb, total Hb (totalHb=oxyHb+deoxy Hb), Hb oxygen saturation (HbO2Sat=(oxyHb/totalHb)*100), and tissue-hemoglobin oxygen exchange HbO2Exc (deoxyHb?oxyHb).

  • Patent number: 10085657
Abstract: The invention provides a body-worn system that continuously measures pulse oximetry and blood pressure, along with motion, posture, and activity level, from an ambulatory patient. The system features an oximetry probe that comfortably clips to the base of the patient's thumb, thereby freeing up their fingers for conventional activities in a hospital, such as reading and eating. The probe secures to the thumb and measures time-dependent signals corresponding to LEDs operating near 660 and 905 nm. Analog versions of these signals pass through a low-profile cable to a wrist-worn transceiver that encloses a processing unit. Also within the wrist-worn transceiver is an accelerometer, a wireless system that sends information through a network to a remote receiver, e.g. a computer located in a central nursing station.

  • Patent number: 10016137
Abstract: An optical detection method and system are provided. Sample light is delivered into an anatomical structure having a target voxel, whereby a portion of the sample light passing through the target voxel is scattered by the anatomical structure as signal light, and another portion of the sample light not passing through the target voxel is scattered by the anatomical structure as background light that is combined with the signal light to create a sample light pattern. The sample light pattern and the reference light having an M number of different phases are concurrently combined to respectively generate an M number of interference light patterns. The M number of interference light patterns are detected. M pluralities of values representative of spatial components of the respective M number of interference light patterns are generated, and a physiologically-dependent optical parameter of the target voxel is determined based on the M pluralities of values.

  • Patent number: 9861317
Abstract: Methods and systems are presented for determining regional blood oxygen saturation (rSO2) of a subject. Differential absorption values may be determined based on received first and second light signals corresponding to light attenuated by respective first and second regions of the subject. Reference absorption curves are received, each associated with an rSO2 value and containing expected absorption values. The differential absorption values are compared with the expected absorption values to determine a best fit reference absorption curve. An rSO2 value is determined based on the best fit reference absorption curve. An rSO2 value may also be determined based on a combination of two or more rSO2 estimates. The rSO2 estimates are determined based on two or more pairs of the differential absorption values. The differential absorption values are determined based on received first and second lights signals corresponding to three or more wavelengths of light.

  • Patent number: 9833179
Abstract: A blood component is accurately analyzed by appropriately extracting a blood-vessel transmitted light component. In a blood component analyzing apparatus, a sensor section has a light-emitting section that irradiates light from a predetermined irradiation position situated over a blood vessel and a light-receiving section including a first photodetector that receives light at a first light-receiving position that is different from the irradiation position and is situated over the blood vessel and a second photodetector that receives light at a second light-receiving position that is not situated over the blood vessel. A spectrum synthesizing section synthesizes a first light-reception result at the first light-receiving position and a second light-reception result at the second light-receiving position by performing a predetermined synthesis process based on a positional relationship among the irradiation position, first light-receiving position, and second light-receiving position.
