  • Patent number: 6812433
Abstract: A control system for a cooking appliance enables a consumer to perform a complete cooking operation regardless of whether food is placed into an oven after a preheating operation or without initially preheating the oven. When the consumer does not intend to allow the oven to be preheated prior to inserting the food to be cooked therein, the consumer can select a no preheat operation wherein the lack of preheating is automatically compensated for, preferably by causing the oven to perform the cooking operation in two stages. Initially, the oven is operated at full output capacity for a first predetermined period and thereafter operated at various heat outputs during a subsequent plurality of stages until the cooking operation is complete. In this manner the food is completely cooked without the need to add additional time to the overall cooking operation.

  • Patent number: 6091059
Abstract: A low cost, compact heat roller device is provided which includes a heat generating resistance for increasing the temperature of the heat roller wherein the heat generating resistance is divided into two parts in order to correspond to passage widths of different recording materials. The heating power of one of these heat generating resistances is changed and the temperature increase of a non-paper transport area of the heat roller is suppressed. Specifically, the heat roller device includes a heat roller and a press roller opposite the heat roller, two heat generating resistances formed on an outer surface of the heat roller which generate heat independently of one another, a common electrode for supplying current and separately arranged additional supply electrodes. The time during which the respective heat generating resistance is on, is changed, in relative terms, according to the object to be heated, and thus the heating power is changed.

  • Patent number: 5961853
Abstract: Method of resistance brazing of light metal alloys to form a corrosion resistant structural assembly, comprising: positioning a patch (thickness of about 0.05-0.25 mm and an aspect ratio of about one) of brazing filler metal between and in contact with superimposed light metal (i.e., aluminum, titanium) alloy structural workpieces to define a joining spot, said filler metal consisting of 7-13% silicon, substantial absence of magnesium and copper for aluminum workpieces, and the balance said light metal; while applying high pressure to force the workpieces together at the joining spot to achieve a structural joint, resistively heating the patch to melting without softening the workpieces, except at interfaces with the filler metal, by flowing an electrical current through the patch and aligned portions of the workpieces under ambient conditions and in the absence of flux, the heating and pressure being sufficient to mechanically break up and eliminate any oxides in the workpieces at the joining spot.

  • Patent number: 5942142
Abstract: An oven for cooking foods, and especially for browning foods, has heated, radiant walls. Heat may be supplied by a gas burner flame in a plenum behind the walls, with products of combustion thus being isolated from the food in the oven chamber. In one embodiment food products are continuously conveyed through the oven chamber and, depending on oven temperature, are either cooked or simply browned in the oven by the radiant wall heat. Fats and other materials rendered from the food products, if not fully incinerated in the oven chamber, may be transferred along with exhaust air from the oven chamber to a separate combustion chamber, for incineration, the heat from which is used to contribute to heat requirements for the plenum. Steam or other inert gas is introduced to the oven chamber to minimize oxidation and prevent flame, and the steam can be produced by heat exchange with exhaust plenum gases. An alternative wall heating system uses electric resistance heat elements inside a thin ceramic wall.

  • Patent number: 5932125
Abstract: A direct heating type toner fixing roller for electrophotographic apparatuses is composed of a cylindrical tube made of a resin into which are mixed electrically conductive additives, preferably carbon fiber and carbon black powder. The resin is injection molded under defined conditions so that a reverse crown profile is formed. The roller of the invention is held in place at the toner fixing position by shafts, and the shafts themselves are supported by flanges. Electric power is supplied to the cylindrical tube to heat the tube to a predetermined thermal toner-fixing temperature through power supply terminals in contact with electrically conductive flanges. Alternately, the power supply terminals may make direct contact with peripheral parts of the cylindrical tube to heat the tube.
