  • Patent number: 8373802
Abstract: Techniques are provided for content-aware video retargeting. An interactive framework combines key frame-based constraint editing with numerous automatic algorithms for video analysis. This combination gives content producers a high level of control of the retargeting process. One component of the framework is a non-uniform, pixel-accurate warp to the target resolution that considers automatic as well as interactively-defined features. Automatic features comprise video saliency, edge preservation at the pixel resolution, and scene cut detection to enforce bilateral temporal coherence. Additional high level constraints can be added by the producer to achieve a consistent scene composition across arbitrary output formats. Advantageously, embodiments of the invention provide a better visual result for retargeted video when compared to using conventional techniques.

  • Patent number: 8311126
Abstract: A system including a receiver, a TMDS link (or other serial link), and a transmitter configured to transmit K-bit video words (typically, encoded 8-bit video words) over the link. In typical embodiments, the transmitter is configured to pack a sequence of N-bit video words, where N?K (e.g., N=10, 12, or 16, when K=8) into a sequence of K-bit fragments, encode the fragments, and transmit the encoded fragments. The transmitted data are indicative of a sequence of M-fragment groups, and the transmitter is typically configured also to transmit over the link packing phase data indicative of the phase of the most recently transmitted fragment. Other aspects are transmitters and receivers for use in such a system and methods implemented by any such transmitter, receiver, or system.

  • Patent number: 8284252
Abstract: A detection unit obtains a position of a feature point of an occupant. A storage unit stores a model of all specific actions in each of physical feature classifications. The model defines a position or a locus of the feature point in each specific action, which an occupant may perform. A determining unit compares an in-action feature point with each model of a specific action, which is being performed, to determine a classification conformity weight indicating a possibility that the occupant belongs to the physical feature classification. An estimating unit compares the position of the feature point with each model to obtain a comparison result and generate a conformity value by incorporating the classification conformity weight into the comparison result. The estimating unit detects an estimated action, which is a specific action corresponding to the model, which has a highest conformity value.

  • Patent number: 8243807
Abstract: An image processing method in which a video signal is processed to detect a conspicuous area which is thought that a camera person intends to shoot, the method includes the steps of: detecting a motion vector in each portion of the video signal; detecting a representative value that represents a motion in two places in an outer part of a screen; detecting a motion component caused by zooming operations from the representative value; detecting a conspicuous degree by zooming in which a motion component caused by zooming operations is detected in each portion of the video signal based on the motion component caused by zooming operations; correcting a motion vector; detecting a motion component caused by making a pan and tilt from the representative value; detecting a conspicuous degree caused by making a pan and tilt; and detecting a total conspicuous degree.

  • Patent number: 8223277
Abstract: A display device displays a D-seat image and a P-seat image on a display screen in a time-sharing manner, and forms a non-display state by inserting a black image BL or the like when changing the viewing angle of the display screen by controlling a liquid crystal shutter provided on the display screen in synchronization with the switching between the D-seat image and the P-seat image. With this display device, it is possible to prevent the image in one field of view from entering the other field of view, even if there are differences in the switching timing of the liquid crystal shutter.

  • Patent number: 8184709
Abstract: A method of fast motion estimation in VLSI architecture with low-power and high-throughput for multimedia System-on-Chip design is disclosed. The method uses the data prediction and data reuse technique to find out the best matching block within the search range of the reference frame for the target block in the current frame in order to obtain the respective motion vector. The external memory bandwidth and the internal memory size in the video coding system are significantly reduced so as to speed up the process of motion estimation and most of the power consumption for the motion estimation process is further saved in the embedded video coding systems.

  • Patent number: 8184691
Abstract: An encryption and authentication technique that achieves enhanced integrity verification through assured error-propagation using a multistage sequence of pseudorandom permutations. The present invention generates intermediate data-dependent cryptographic variables at each stage, which are systematically combined into feedback loops. The encryption technique also generates an authentication tag without any further steps that is N times longer than the block size where N is the number of pseudorandom permutations used in the encipherment of each block. The authentication tag provides a unique mapping to the plaintext for any number of plaintext blocks that is less than or equal to N. In addition to being a stand alone encryption algorithm, the disclosed technique is applicable to any mode that uses pseudorandom permutations such as, key dependent lookup tables, S-Boxes, and block ciphers such as RC5, TEA, and AES.
