Abstract: Hair lacquer compositions in pressurized containers are rendered less inflammable consistently throughout the emptying of the container by incorporating bromotrifluoromethane therein in an amount from 5 to 30% by weight based on the weight of the composition and providing the container with a valve provided with an inlet for additional gas.

Abstract: Hair coloring formulations in the form of suspensions, lotions, or creams based upon a combination of water-soluble copper salts, water-soluble iron salts and finely divided sulfur are described. No toxic lead salts are used. Hair coloring formulations which contain copper cystine or zinc cystine and finely divided sulfur are also described. These formulations are particularly useful for the gradual coloring of gray hair.

Abstract: This invention is a composition useful for dyeing keratinous fiber brown without using o-, m- or p-phenylenediamine, 2,4-diaminoanisol or nitro compounds. The composition consists essentially of 1,5-dihydroxynaphthalene, m-aminophenol, p-aminodiphenylamine or a suitable acid addition salt thereof, a suitable modifier, a suitable coupler and a suitable base. This composition in combination with an oxidizing agent dyes hair brown.

Abstract: Diphenylmethane mono and dicarbamates and polymethylene polyphenyl carbamate homologs and derivatives of these compounds are prepared by employing a superatmospheric pressure of anhydrous hydrogen chloride to catalytically rearrange an (alkoxycarbonyl)phenylaminomethylphenyl compound having the general formula ##STR1## INCLUDING THE HIGHER HOMOLOGS OF SUCH COMPOUNDS, WHEREIN X, Y AND Z, WHICH ARE DIFFERENT ON THE RING, ARE AN ALKYL GROUP HAVING FROM 1 TO 3 CARBON ATOMS, AN --NHCOOR, --CH.sub.2 ArNHCOOR or --N(COOR)CH.sub.2 Ar group; x, y and z may also be at least one hydrogen; R is a 1 to 3 carbon atom alkyl group and Ar is phenyl which may be substituted with a 1 to 3 carbon atom alkyl group.

Abstract: N,N-dichloro-N-acyl compounds, such as N,N-dichlorocarbamates, sulfonamides and amidosulfonamides selectively react with conjugated dienes to yield the corresponding 1,4-adducts, i.e. N-chloro-N-chlorocrotyl compounds. The N-chloro group of these adducts can be selectively reduced by aqueous sodium sulfite. Both the original and the reduced adducts are novel compositions useful as biologically active compounds and vulcanizing agents. The bis-N-chlorocrotyl carbamates and their N-chloro derivatives are particularly claimed compositions.

Abstract: Dyestuffs of the oxidizable developer-coupler type wherein the coupler is a 3,5-diamino-2-substituted-alkylbenzene of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is straight- or branched-chain alkyl of 1-8 carbon atoms, R.sub.2 is a straight- or branched-chain alkyl of 1-8 carbon atoms, phenyl, or phenyl substituted by alkyl of 1-4 carbon atoms or halogen atoms and the inorganic and organic salts thereof are very satisfactory for coloring hair. They are readily oxidized by atmospheric oxygen at room temperature without a catalyst, and they provide intense, bright and fast dyeings in a short tie. They are applied in conventional manner from an aqueous medium.

Abstract: Novel quaternary phosphonium salts, bearing one or more carbamate groups attached through nitrogen, are prepared by condensing a hydroxymethyl phosphonium salt having the formula [R.sub.4-n P(CH.sub.2 OH).sub.n ].sup.+ X.sup.- with an alkyl carbamate having the formula NH.sub.2 CO.sub.2 R'. The products, which have the general formula [R.sub.4-n P(CH.sub.2 NHCO.sub.2 R').sub.n ].sup.+ X.sup.-, are useful as finishing agents for imparting flame retardant or durable press properties to cotton fabrics.

Abstract: This invention relates to Vitamin A-containing crystal clear transparent aqueous sprayable emulsions for application to hair and scalp according to a spray-on then brush-in technique which has been found to effectively reduce itching, flaking of common dandruff and seborrhea, condition the hair and scalp, and, in some instances, reduce excessive falling hair.

Abstract: A novel monoester of cis-cyclopentenediol of the following formula ##STR1## wherein ##STR2## is an optically active acyl moiety. The monoester can be prepared by reacting cis-2-cyclopentene-1,4-diol with an optically active carboxylic acid of the following formula ##STR3## wherein ##STR4## is the same as defined above, or its reactive derivative, and separating the resulting reaction product into the two individual diastereomers. Lactones can be prepared from the monoesters selectively and with commercial advantage.

Abstract: A dye composition for keratinic fiber and particularly living human hair comprises an admixture of one or more diphenylamines whose corresponding indoamine has an oxidation-reduction potential between -450 and -350 mv and a polyhydroxybenzene having an oxidation-reduction potential between -600 and -300 mv and having the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 represents hydroxy or ##STR2## wherein R.sub.3 represents hydrogen or alkyl, and R.sub.2 represents hydrogen, or NH.sub.2 when R.sub.1 represents NH.sub.2, said diphenylamine and polyhydroxybenzene being present in an amount such that the ratio of the total number of moles of diphenylamine to the number of moles of polyhydroxybenzene is between 2 and 7.

Abstract: There is provided a composition for the frosting of hair comprised of an intimate mixture of particulate persulfate salts and alkaline silicates dispersed in an anhydrous organic carrier, the anhydrous organic carrier being sufficiently hydrophobic to retard absorption of atmospheric moisture and provided in a quantity sufficient to coat the particles to prevent persulfate decomposition in the presence of moist air. The carrier is sufficiently hydrophilic so as to be emulsifiable in an aqueous hydrogen peroxide solution to form with a thickener a viscous hair frosting emulsion.
