Patent number: 6891643Abstract: The imaging device divides the two-dimensional photo object into multiple sections before performing imaging, and obtains an ultra-high resolution complete image by splicing together the partial images of the photo object. To this end, in the imaging device, the area sensor is held essentially parallel to the photo object, and the imaging lens is moved such that its optical axis L draws a circle with the normal line N that passes trough the center of the area sensor 20 as the center of the circle. The imaging lens is stopped at each of the positions at which the imaging optical system optical axis that connects the center of the area sensor and the principal point of the imaging lens passes through the imaging center point of each section of the photo object, in order to perform imaging of each section of the photo object.Type: GrantFiled: November 14, 2000Date of Patent: May 10, 2005Assignee: Minolta Co., Ltd.Inventor: Shinya Matsuda

Patent number: 6822766Abstract: A circuit connected to a linear array of photosensors generates image data representative of information printed on a document and adjusts the gains applied to the outputs of selected ones of the photosensors to eliminate streaks in the image data otherwise due to the selected photosensors imaging debris on an optical reference surface. The circuit determines which photosensors have low output values during a factory scan of a clean white reference surface. During a subsequent user environment calibration scan, low output values are adjusted to the average of their neighbors, but only for locations not identified as having low outputs during the factory scan. The circuit additionally performs a PRNU compensation and further adjusts the gains applied to each of the outputs of the photosensors so that all of their output values have a substantially uniform value.Type: GrantFiled: March 1, 2001Date of Patent: November 23, 2004Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.Inventors: Edward A. Patent number: 6778301Abstract: A method of deriving a preview image from CCITT-compressed digital image data that represent an original image is disclosed. The method comprises receiving CCITT-compressed image data that represent an original image having Nr rows and Nc columns. Without decompressing the CCITT-compressed data, a preview image is derived that has Nr/M rows each having Nc/M pixel values. The reducing step includes processing each group of M rows of said original image represented in the CCITT-compressed data. Specifically, the CCITT-compressed data that represent the group of M rows of the original image is read. For each constituent row in the group of M rows, a location in the row is derived for each transition represented in the CCITT-compressed data. For each constituent row in the group of M rows, each transition in the row is mapped to a pixel value in a reduced row having Nc/M pixel values. Therefore, for each group of M rows in the original image, M reduced rows are defined.Type: GrantFiled: December 6, 2000Date of Patent: August 17, 2004Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Ricardo L. de Queiroz, Reiner Eschbach

Patent number: 6775035Abstract: It is so arranged that even if a procedure which does not report the number of lines of an image before image information is transmitted gives rise to an error, the occurrence of the same error can be prevented when a message is re-transmitted. To accomplish this, a reading circuit (14) reads a JPEG color image when facsimile transmission of the image is performed in a direct transmit mode. While the image is being stored in a memory (18), the number of lines in the image is counted. If the number of lines counted attains a predetermined number, the image is encoded in accordance with the JPEG standard and then is transmitted. Here the number of lines is transmitted as zero before the image information is transmitted. If an error occurs on the receiving side, the image is re-transmitted. At re-transmission, the counted number of lines is transmitted before the image information.Type: GrantFiled: August 21, 2000Date of Patent: August 10, 2004Assignee: Canon Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Takehiro Yoshida

Patent number: 6768562Abstract: A method for correcting recording positions of light beams scanned by a light beam scanning apparatus, in which at least one of plural light beams is deflected by an optical deflecting device and all the plural light beams are combined and scanned by a common scanning optical system. The beam position correction data for the optical deflecting device for keeping positions of the light beams constant is obtained by detecting the beam positions before the scanning optical system. The recording positions of respective light beams on a recording surface is also detected to obtain an additional correction data for correcting deviations of the recording positions due to uneven optical power distribution of the light beam or astigmatism of the scanning optical system. The additional correction data is added to the beam position correction data to obtain the final correction data, by which the optical deflecting device is controlled.Type: GrantFiled: April 21, 2000Date of Patent: July 27, 2004Assignee: Fuji Photo Film Co., Ltd.Inventors: Norihisa Takada, Takeshi Fujii

Patent number: 6760131Abstract: An enhancement and interpolation circuit forms enhanced image data by performing enhancement and interpolation processing on image data. A floating slice circuit obtains a floating slice level for said image data. A binarization and density conversion circuit binarizes enhanced image data using the floating slice level to form binarized image data. In the double-side read mode, simultaneously read image data on the right and reverse sides of a document are transferred at a first rate. In the one-side read mode, image data on the right side of a document is transferred at a second rate that is slower than the first rate by data transfer means. An image discriminating circuit forms an image discriminating instruction for read image data. A white level signal generating circuit forms a new white level signal by subjecting said image data and a current white level signal in accordance with an operation designation instruction corresponding to an image discriminating instruction.Type: GrantFiled: April 6, 2001Date of Patent: July 6, 2004Assignee: PFU LimitedInventor: Yukio Kaji

Patent number: 6738169Abstract: In a high-frequency component processing section, a low-quality color transformation section applies a very simple (meaning a small amount of calculations) color transformation to an original image as required and a high-frequency component calculation section then applies out frequency transformation thereto. In a low-frequency component processing section, an LPF (Low-Pass Filter) and a sampling process executed by a sub-sampling section cooperate in sub-sampling the original image to obtain a reduced image with a small number of pixels. A high-quality color transformation section applies an advanced (meaning a large amount of calculations) color transformation to the reduced image. Then, a low-frequency component calculation section applies frequency transformation to the reduced image, which has been subjected to the color transformation.Type: GrantFiled: July 13, 2000Date of Patent: May 18, 2004Assignee: Kabushiki Kaisha ToshibaInventor: Shiro Nakase

Patent number: 6724504Abstract: The image reading system comprises an image reading device and a computer, which can be connected to the image reading device to operate it. In the image reading device, a film, in which an image is recorded, is regularly intermittently moved, so that the image is read by a line sensor. In a pre-scanning operation, the film is moved with a pitch which is coarser than that of a regular scanning operation, so that a pre-view image is read by the line sensor, and is displayed on a screen of a liquid crystal display device. A control bar, indicated on the screen along with the pre-view image, is operated by handling a track ball and a click button, so that an image quality of the pre-view image is adjusted. Namely, even in a stand-alone mode in which the image reading device is operated independently from the computer, the image quality of the pre-view image can be adjusted.Type: GrantFiled: January 11, 2000Date of Patent: April 20, 2004Assignee: PENTAX CorporationInventor: Yasuhiro Yamamoto
