  • Patent number: 5497582
Abstract: A crabbing bait holder comprises a frame including a pair of joined planar members foldably openable to add a solid bait therebetween and foldably closable to hold the bait in position, with a plurality of eyeholes and locking tab lengths about the top, bottom and side edges of the frame to secure the planar members at a distance varying with the thickness of the bait held in place. The frame may be raised or lowered into the water by a drop-line, fed manually or from a reel, and is in the general shape of an open grid constructed of a rigid nature to support the weight of one or more crabs holding onto the frame with their claws while eating at the bait inside. A further weight, included where the drop-line joins the folded-over planar members, steadies the frame against water currents and the chomping actions of the crab when eating. Upon raising the frame from the water, any crabs holding onto the frame can be simply scooped off.

  • Patent number: 5495691
Abstract: A device for linking a trolling line to a wire of a downrigger or a sideplanar so that a triggering force from the direction of the lure attached to one end of the trolling line is freely adjustable without affecting the coupling adjustment between the rod and the device, and between the device and the wire. The device can be released from the cable by a sharp pull from the direction of the rod, and then reeled up to the surface and to the boat.

  • Patent number: 5494455
Abstract: Pressure-type connector 1 has a base 10 retaining a pressure contact 50 and a closure member 30 connected to the base 10 by means of a hinge 28. On a side surface of the base 10, locking bosses 18 are provided, and on the side surface of the closure member 30 locking rings 38 are located to be engaged with the locking bosses 18. At the outer end of the locking rings 38 a pair of protrusions 42 is disposed with a space between them being approximately equal to the width of the locking boss 18. When the closure member 30 is rotated toward the base 10, protrusions 42 which form the guiding device, slide along the side surfaces 24 of the locking bosses 18, thus preventing a skewed attitude relative the base 10. This arrangement makes it possible to provide for a better connection between electric wire 3 and the pressure contact 50.

  • Patent number: 5494209
Abstract: A metallic strip having at least one surface enhanced with a texture pattern is formed into a welded tube. A fin insert shapes the edges of the metallic strip prior to welding and minimizes the formation of a protruding weld bead. The longitudinally running edges of the metallic strip adjacent to the enhancement are angled so that the unenhanced portions of the strip edges contact during welding. By having the unenhanced portions contact, fluctuations in metal volume during welding are reduced. This reduces weld instability.

  • Patent number: 5491924
Abstract: A manually held instrument having an elongated tube containing a compressed spring unit, into which tube a sinker of a connected fishline is adapted to be entered into abutment with the compressed spring unit. A stop restraining expansion of the compressed spring unit is adapted to be finger released by the fishman; and, when the stop is released from the compressed spring unit, the latter forcefully expands to cast the abutting sinker and connected fishline an appreciable distance from the instrument into the water. A push-rod slidable in an elongated support mounted to the body of the instrument may be removed by the fishman and entered into the elongated tube to return the spring unit to its compressed condition restrained by the stop.

  • Patent number: 5484096
Abstract: A method of brazing a first body to a second body having particular application to the bonding of a composite abrasive compact to a substrate. The method involves the steps of providing a brazing shim comprising at least two zones having differing melting temperatures, placing the shim on a surface of the first body, placing a surface of the second body on the shim to form an unbonded assembly, applying heat to the assembly to cause the shim to melt and allowing the assembly to cool to a temperature at which all the zones of the shim become solid.

  • Patent number: 5483768
Abstract: A device for automatically setting a hook in a fish uses a simple post to which the major components are assembled, which post has a pointed bottom for insertion into ice or snow, for ice fishing in the winter, or to which a appropriate clamp may be attached so that the post can be connected to other supports such as a pier or the gunwale of a boat for fishing during the other seasons. The device incorporates a signal flag and it also incorporates a spring mechanism for avoiding activation if a fish only makes a passing attempt at taking the bait, rather than a full strike. This mechanism takes the form of a lever and a first spring-loaded rod attached to a recoil mechanism. If the rod is caused to move with sufficient force it will actuate the recoil mechanism which, in turn, moves the lever and releases a second spring-loaded rod, effectively setting the hook in the fish's mouth. The recoil mechanism is adjustable so that its sensitivity can be set in accordance with the species of fish being sought.

  • Patent number: 5482736
Abstract: A method and apparatus for applying flux to a series of metallization contacts or plated contact pad a substrate exposed by an apertured solder mask, employs a compressible transfer pad. A central flux pick-up area is formed on the transfer pad bottom surface. The bottom surface may be spherical and may include a cylindrical post onto which a predetermined amount of flux is transferred, such as by dipping the pick-up area into a reservoir of semi-liquid paste flux. The transfer pad is then positioned over and compressed on the solder mask such that the picked up flux on the flux pick-up area of the transfer pad is pressure forced by compression of the transfer pad through apertures in the solder mask directly and successively into all the series of depressions formed on the substrate until all the depressions are substantially filled with flux.

  • Patent number: 5475944
Abstract: A trotline fishing device. The device for storing fish hooks on both sides of a trotline reel and discharging the hooks from both sides of a trotline reel in any directions, rapidly, with safety, and having control through out the fishing cycle. A preferred embodiment including hook or article holders (53A, 53B) releasably mounted on either side of the reel and fitting snug over a rod, the rod bound to the reel by elastic lacing. The rod held in hinge fashion by the elastic lacing so as to lean and direct the discharge of hooks from the holders when tension is put on the stage line. The holders releasing the hooks to discharge them clear of the reel when the main line is cast or discharged in any direction. The holders having the ability to lean favorably to direct a clear, clean discharge of the hooks rather than lean directly toward the pull of the stage line. Further embodiments include stage line control guides and a main line fluke anchor.

  • Patent number: 5472134
Abstract: A joint container for forming a weld joint utilizing multiple adjacent metal plates which are spaced apart and positioned angularly to each other. One of the plates forming the joint may extend continuously through the joints along a straight line. At least first and second plates of the multiple plates may be at an acute angle to each other. A dam member is placed in each of the spaces between each two adjacent plates. The dam member between adjacent plates has a concave contour surface viewed in a direction toward the weld joint container. Thereby stress inducing sharp corners in the finished weld joint are minimized due to the reduction of the angles of the corners provided by the contour of each dam surface when it engages one of the plates. Also, the plates having ends at the joint have such ends cut parallel to and spaced from the plate extending continuously straight through the joint.
