  • Patent number: 9978183
Abstract: Appropriate reduction of transferred data volume is used to deliver interruption-free video to a user, minimizing viewing discomfort. A head-mounted display secured to the head of a user and a video generating device that generates a video for presentation to the user by the head-mounted display are combined in a video system. In the head-mounted display, a presentation unit presents the video to the user, an imaging unit captures an image of the user's eye, the first communication unit sends the captured image to the video generating device, and receives the video from the video generating device.

  • Patent number: 9965890
Abstract: Improved techniques for generating video content are disclosed. In some embodiments, a frame is first rendered using a first rendering option. It is then determined whether the frame is an independent frame (I-frame) or a predictive frame (P-frame). In the event that the frame is an I-frame, the frame is rendered using a second rendering option. In the event that the frame is a P-frame, the frame as rendered by the first rendering option and a previous frame as rendered by the first rendering option are used to determine prediction error. The first rendering option comprises a lower computational complexity than the second rendering option.

  • Patent number: 9952435
Abstract: A display apparatus includes a frame, an image display apparatus attached to the frame, and a distortion correction apparatus. The image display apparatus includes an image forming apparatus and an optical system configured to guide an image from the image forming apparatus to a pupil of an observer. When it is assumed that a direction, which corresponds to a first direction of the image, of the image forming apparatus is an X-direction and a direction, which corresponds to a second direction of the image which direction is different from the first direction, of the image forming apparatus is a Y-direction, the image forming apparatus is curved in the X-direction and/or in the Y-direction. The distortion correction apparatus corrects an input image signal to correct a distortion of an image to be observed.

  • Patent number: 9940744
Abstract: Remote font management techniques are described. In one or more implementations, one or more layout tables are obtained, located remotely via a network by a computing device, that correspond to a font associated with a request to output text using the font. A layout and glyph dependencies of the text is generated by the computing device using the obtained one or more layout tables to identify glyphs that are involved in an output of the text. The identified glyphs are obtained by the computing device from a font file located remotely from the computing device via the network and the text is rendered by the computing device using the obtained glyphs.

  • Patent number: 9934607
Abstract: A method for generating real-time goal space steering for data-driven character animation is disclosed. A goal space table of sparse samplings of possible future locations is computed, indexed by the starting blend value and frame. A steer space is computed as a function of the current blend value and frame, interpolated from the nearest indices of the table lookup in the goal space. The steer space is then transformed to local coordinates of a character's position at the current frame. The steer space samples closest to a line connecting the character's position with the goal location may be selected. The blending values of the two selected steer space samples are interpolated to compute the new blending value to render subsequent frames of an animation sequence.

  • Patent number: 9922466
Abstract: A virtual reality system is disclosed that provides autonomous vehicle (AV) sensor data to applications such as games and augmented reality overlays to enhance experiences for riders in the autonomous vehicle. Virtual reality headsets offer users unique and interesting experiences, but when used in a changing environment such as a moving vehicle, external stimuli can impair the virtual reality experience. AV sensors can predict these stimuli so that applications can take measures to reduce their impacts on virtual reality experiences. In addition, sensors can include cameras that send live video feeds to virtual reality devices to render improved views of the environment around the AV and of landmarks in a city. Furthermore, virtual reality devices can take advantage of the AV's computing resources in order to offer better performance and more features to applications.

  • Patent number: 9916070
Abstract: The present invention pertains to geographical image processing of time-dependent imagery. Various assets acquired at different times are stored and processing according to acquisition date in order to generate one or more image tiles for a geographical region of interest. The different image tiles are sorted based on asset acquisition date. Multiple image tiles for the same region of interest may be available. In response to a user request for imagery as of a certain date, one or more image tiles associated with assets from prior to that date are used to generate a time-based geographical image for the user.

  • Patent number: 9766460
Abstract: An HMD device is configured to vertically adjust the ground plane of a rendered virtual reality environment that has varying elevations to match the flat real world floor so that the device user can move around to navigate and explore the environment and always be properly located on the virtual ground and not be above it or underneath it. Rather than continuously adjust the virtual reality ground plane, which can introduce cognitive dissonance discomfort to the user, when the user is not engaged in some form of locomotion (e.g., walking), the HMD device establishes a threshold radius around the user within which virtual ground plane adjustment is not performed. The user can make movements within the threshold radius without the HMD device shifting the virtual terrain. When the user moves past the threshold radius, the device will perform an adjustment as needed to match the ground plane of the virtual reality environment to the real world floor.
