  • Patent number: 8003818
Abstract: The invention provides a process for the hydrogenation of a reactant selected from the group consisting of: at the ring-closing carbon atom and has a proton at a (a) a 5- or 6-membered lactone that is substituted carbon atom adjacent to the ring-closing carbon atom; (b) an ester of a carboxylic acid having a gamma-carbonyl group and a proton at a carbon atom adjacent to the carbon atom of the carbonyl group; and (c) a carboxylic acid having a gamma-carbonyl group and a proton at a carbon atom adjacent to the carbon atom of the carbonyl group, wherein the reactant is contacted with a strongly acidic heterogeneous catalyst comprising a hydrogenating metal, in the presence of hydrogen, at a temperature in the range of from 100 to 350° C. and a pressure in the range of from 1 to 150 bar (absolute). The invention further provides a fuel composition, preferably a diesel composition, comprising di-alkyl 4-methylnonanedioate or di-alkyl 3-ethyl-4-methylheptanedioate.

  • Patent number: 7288677
Abstract: This invention provides aromatic diimines which have imino hydrocarbylidene groups with at least two carbon atoms, and aromatic secondary diamines which have amino hydrocarbyl groups with at least two carbon atoms. Both the aromatic diimines and the aromatic secondary diamines either are in the form of one phenyl ring, or are in the form of two phenyl rings connected by an alkylene bridge; each position ortho to an imino group or an amino group bears a hydrocarbyl group. When in the form of one phenyl ring, there are two imino groups on the ring or two amino groups on the ring; the imino groups or amino groups are meta or para relative to each other. When in the form of two phenyl rings connected by an alkylene bridge, there is either one imino group or one amino group on each phenyl ring. Also provided are processes for forming diimines and secondary diamines.

  • Patent number: 7271298
Abstract: A process for isolation and purification of xanthophylls crystals from plant oleoresin is disclosed. The organic solvents involved in the process is no other than food grade alcohol. The process includes saponifying the plant oleoresin containing xanthophyll diesters, neutralizing the saponified reaction mixture with an acid and washing water-soluble impurities and other fat-soluble oil with warm water and alcohol, respectively. The process can improve purity and yield of products, by which the content and the recovery of xanthophylls are as high as 90% and 80% respectively. And the process is economical and easy to perform in industrial production.

  • Patent number: 7259226
Abstract: The present invention is related to a series of polyesters based upon the reaction of dimer acid, dimer alcohol and Guerbet alcohol. The resulting polyester is a high molecular weight product that is well tolerated by the skin and has outstanding emolliency. The Guerbet alcohol, being mono hydroxyl is a capper portion of the polymer, the dimer alcohol is a chain extender having two hydroxyl groups and the dimer acid is a diacid that reacts with the hydroxyl groups on the Guerbet and dimer alcohol to make the polyester.
