Abstract: Methods of bonding glass and silicon-containing articles are disclosed. Bonding is achieved without use of adhesives or high temperature fusion. A wide variety of glass and silicon-containing articles may be bonded by the methods of the invention.

Abstract: Disclosed are composite structures prepared using a hemicellulose-based adhesive. In a preferred embodiment, a laminate composed of plural laminae which have been bonded to one another using a hemicellulose-based adhesive is provided. The laminate is useful as a separator or partition in a shipping vessel. Most preferably, the hemicellulose-based adhesive contains one or more bonding agents and water., the hemicellulose being present in an amount of at least 10% by dry basis weight of the bonding agents.
Abstract: A method of producing a solid image pickup device including a solid image pickup element, and an optical lens held in a housing that is mounted on a flexible wiring board. A fixing device fixes the flexible wiring board in a folded state corresponding to an external shape of the solid image pickup device during bonding of the flexible wiring board.
Abstract: An apparatus (1) for handling coverslips (20) for specimen slides (9) comprises a transport arm (8), a base block (3) mounted on the transport arm and having a having a notional center axis (3a), and at least two suction devices (4 and 5) carried by the base block (3), each suction device (4 and 5) having an end (4a and 5a) that comes into contact with a coverslip (2) and points away from the notional center axis (3a) of said base block (3). The base block (3) both removes a single coverslip (2) from a magazine (24), and deposits the removed coverslip (2) onto a specimen slide (9).
Abstract: The present invention is a machine to perform two or more processes to an bottle wherein registration of the first process to the second process is required. The products produced with such registration have distinct advantages over prior art. These include labeling systems comprising multiple labels that can be incorporated into many useful variants for promotional items. Additionally, novel packaging systems can utilize this technology.

Abstract: The complex shaped articles are formed by trimming, cutting and shaping a honeycomb core material to a desired size and shape, deforming the sized and shaped honeycomb core material at ambient temperature; permanently setting the shape and contour of the sized and shaped honeycomb core material; affixing side edges to the shaped and contoured honeycomb core material; and, bonding a fiber reinforced resin to the top and bottom surfaces of the honeycomb core material.
Abstract: A dunnage platform is in the general shape of a rectangular slab with legs extending form one side. The dunnage platform is made from an expanded polystyrene core. A chemical combination process is used to chemically combine portion of the core proximal to its surface with high impact polystyrene. In a first of two parts of the combination process, the core is placed in a forming mold with one of its two sides and two thirds of its thickness extending therefrom. A heated sheet of high impact polystyrene is brought into contact with the portion of the core extending from the mold. In a similar manner, the other of the two sides of the core is made to extend from the forming mold for contact with a heated sheet of high impact polystyrene.

Abstract: Method for strip-coating a metallic strip-shaped substrate (1) with a band (3) of plastic comprising the stages: (i) in-situ casting of a plastic band; (ii) leading the plastic band around a cooling roll (5, 5a); (iii) leading away the plastic band until the plastic band production is underway and stabilized; (iv) bringing the plastic band up to speed and heating the substrate to a temperature of the substrate close to the softening temperature of the part of the plastic band facing the substrate; (v) pressing the plastic band onto the substrate and where applicable breaking off the plastic band and stopping it being led away; (vi) coating the substrate (1) with the plastic band (3) at high speed.
Abstract: A shaped product, which travels from a shaping die, is passed through a delimiting space between a pressing roller provided in a floating frame of a pressing member and a windowpane introduced in under the pressing roller to be forcibly fitted to the windowpane. Thus, the shaped product is uniformly unified to a peripheral portion of the windowpane by preventing variations in a adhesion force from occurring.
Abstract: In a method for manufacturing a flat display element, a pair of motherboards are prepared, and a display forming portion is formed on each motherboard. A sealant is located on one of the motherboards so as to surround the peripheral edge portion of the display forming portion, and end spacers for maintaining a gap between the two motherboards and a tacker covering the end spacers are located on the end portions of the motherboard. The motherboards are stuck on each other with the sealant, end spacers, and tacker between them, and the stuck motherboards are aligned with each other. After the alignment, the two motherboards are tacked to each other by curing the tacker. Thereafter, the motherboards are finally bonded to each other by curing the sealant. Then, the substrates, stuck on each other with the sealant, are cut out by cutting the motherboards outside the sealant.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for preparing a perforated panel for reticulation to a film adhesive. The method includes supporting the perforated panel. The method also includes adhering the film adhesive to the perforated panel without initiating a cure of the film adhesive. The method applies a vacuum to the film adhesive. Next the method will move the perforated panel at a predetermined speed through a reticulation unit. Next the method will soften the film adhesive and finally remove the film adhesive from the perforations by an airflow. The method is generally used for creating acoustic sheet panels for use in many industries.

Abstract: The invention relates to polystyrene binders modified by fatty compounds. The fatty compounds used are, in particular, esters of fatty acids or fatty alcohols, more especially triglycerides of higher fatty acids, preferably natural fats and oils. They may be added to the binder in high concentrations without adversely affecting the properties of the binder. However, their addition is of advantage in regard to the wetting properties, resistance to water and, above all, hardness. Dispersion adhesives, hotmelt adhesives and sealing compounds in particular can be improved with the binders according to the invention.

Abstract: A product sampler including a substrate layer, a barrier layer covering the substrate layer, a gelatinoid product layer covering and in contact with the barrier layer, and a barrier layer covering and in contact with the product layer is provided. The gelatinoid product layer may include a microencapsulated product, such as a fragrance. In preferred embodiments of the invention, the gelatinoid product layer includes a microencapsulated fragrance carried in a gelatinoid liquid vehicle, which vehicle may comprise, for example, propylene glycol, polyethylene glycols, glycerin, or mixtures thereof. In a highly preferred embodiment of the invention, the product sampler is in the form of a magazine insert having a protruding trimmable non-barrier substrate tab portion, whereby a user may remove a trim portion from the trimmable edge portion after binding the insert into a magazine without removing barrier material with the removed trim portion. Also disclosed is a product sampler in the form of a label.

Abstract: A manufacturing method for plastic bags recombines a layer of plastic to the outside surface of the bag to provide a portion of the outside surface with a lower melting point than the inside surface of the bag. The bags are arranged in stacks and heat is applied to bond the low melting point layer. A relatively weak bond is formed between adjacent outside bag surfaces while the bag inside surfaces remain free of each other. The weak bond is positioned along the median of the bag and near the bag opening. A second bag is drawn open by the bond during retrieval of a first bag. A flexible separation tab is arranged to maintain the separation between the inside surfaces of the open bag. The separation tab may also be made conspicuous to present an obvious retrieval point for the top bag in a hanging bag dispensing arrangement.
Abstract: A method of manufacturing motor car steering wheels with an external shell made of composite materials, which comprises preparing a pile of sheets of composite materials, hot molding thereof for obtaining respective half-shells with a shape corresponding to that of respective halves of the steering wheel being manufactured, mechanical flattening of the front surfaces of the two half-shells, applying the two half-shells to opposite parts of a steering wheel body formed by a metallic core covered by resin, and mutual fixing of the two half-shells along said front surfaces. After flattening, the front surfaces of the two half-shells are mechanically worked to form respective complementary teeth which can be male-female coupled when the two half-shells are applied around the steering wheel body.
Abstract: A box-structure airfoil is constructed of a composite material uppers skin, a composite material lower a skin 12 and a spar. Ribs and an elongate projection are formed integrally on the inner surface of each of the two skins. The upper and lower skins and the spar are simultaneously bonded by an adhesive to form a single structure. Since the ribs and the elongate projection are one-piece formed with each skin, it is possible to reduce the number of principal constituent components. Furthermore, since assembly operation is made by using the adhesive, there is no need for fasteners or the like for assembling. Moreover, the flanges on both sides of the spar can also be bonded to the respective skins. According to the invention, it is possible to reduce the number of principal constituent components and that of assembling components of an airfoil, thereby achieving its cost reduction.
Abstract: Process for producing an elastomer substrate web, comprising the following process steps:
a) feeding in a polymer mixture, in particular into a mixer,
b) conveying the ready-prepared polymer mixture to a calender, comprising at least two rollers,
c) forming the polymer mixture out in the calender into a web,
d) applying an auxiliary substrate in web form by means of a pressure-exerting roller, which is in contact with the last forming calender roller, for receiving the web, and
e) if appropriate, cooling, crosslinking and/or winding up the web located on the auxiliary substrate.
