  • Patent number: 5516310
Abstract: In a female terminal body, a plurality of elastic contact pieces by which a male terminal is to be clamped and which are separated from each other in a peripheral direction by slits elongating in a longitudinal direction are disposed in a front part, and a cylindrical base portion for fixing a sleeve is formed in a middle part. On the cylindrical base portion, four grooves which are long grooves elongating in the axial direction and arranged in the peripheral direction at equal intervals, and an annular step portion for receiving the sleeve are formed. On the other hand, the sleeve which is a circular cylindrical protection member opens at the rear end so that the sleeve can be fitted onto the cylindrical base portion. Four beads which project toward the inside of the sleeve are formed in such a manner that they elongate with starting from the opening in the axial direction. The beads are disposed so as to respectively correspond to the grooves of the cylindrical base portion.

  • Patent number: 5511996
Abstract: Solving the problem of breakage of beryllium, copper contacts by applying heat shock to a condition just short of visible oxidation and then promptly water quenching is disclosed. After being so treated, the contacts are then processed in the traditional way which normally anticipates an acid rinse, and subsequent plating. The product of the process can be definitely identified by bending. If not annealed, it will break by bending more than 45.degree.. If annealed properly in accordance with the process of the invention, it will withstand three or four bends to 90.degree. before breakage. Where a compliance section exists in the contact, it is important that it be in the zone of applying the heat shock so that after the heat shock annealing process is concluded, the compliance section will behave like a softer material.

  • Patent number: 5505635
Abstract: A zero insertion force receptacle for a battery powered device including a battery storage area having a pair of parallel battery cradles. A pair of stationary contacts are positioned at the first end of the cradles and a pivotable connector is positioned at the second end of the cradles. The pivotable connector includes a pair of actuator arms which are engaged by a shoulder on a removable cover as the cover is closed. The shoulder displaces the actuator arms and causes the pivotable connector to rotate about a pair of pivot pins to bring a pair of contact arms into engagement with the batteries. As the closing of the cover increases, the actuator arms are pivoted further about the pivot pins to increase the force between the contact arms and the batteries. In the preferred embodiment, the actuator arms are linked to the contact arms by spring sections.

  • Patent number: 5501619
Abstract: A connector includes flexible hinge pieces molded of a synthetic resin, wherein each flexible hinge piece is caused to upwardly extend. When each side plate of a retainer is squeezed from above toward the rear end side of a recessed part formed on one side surface of a connector housing, a provisional engagement locking protuberance is fitted into the fore end side of an elongated hole, causing the fore edge of the side plate to be held between the provisional engagement locking protuberance and a normal engagement locking protuberance in the clamped state. The retainer is thus held in the provisionally engaged state. The hinge piece is folded in the connector housing, and the retainer positioned where each terminal piece can be inserted into and drawn from the corresponding terminal insert hole.

  • Patent number: 5494456
Abstract: A wire-trap connector with a means for protecting the connector's contact from becoming overstressed. The connector housing has a connection passageway for providing access to the contact mounted within the connector. In addition, the connector housing has a release passageway, located separately from the connection passageway, which provides access to the contact. In order to release a wire from the contact, a wire extraction tool is inserted in the release passageway and presses against the contact. During the release of the wire from the connector, the contact has at least one tab projecting from it which will abut against an overstress stop abutment mounted within the connector housing.
