Abstract: A screw-type extrusion apparatus adapted for the extrusion of a viscous primary extrusion stock and particularly adapted for the mixing into said primary extrusion stock of an additive of lower viscosity, which comprises (a) an elongated barrel, (b) means for introducing the primary stock into an upstream end of said barrel, (c) means for discharging extrusion stock from a downstream end of said barrel, (d) a rotatable screw worm axially disposed within said barrel for advancing the primary stock from the upstream end of said barrel to the downstream end of said barrel, said screw having a screw root and affixed to said root at least two axially separated stages of helically threaded screw flights, and (e) an injector for introducing the additive into the barrel at an axial position intermediate to the two said stages of screw flights, said injector extending inward through said barrel wall and having an inlet external to said wall and an outlet positioned substantially at the surface of said screw root.
Abstract: An apparatus for generating an aerosol powder from a melt includes an atomization die having an orifice through which the melt passes to create the powder. In a preferred embodiment, the orifice has a dimension less than 5 millimeters, and may include a heater to prevent freeze-off. The die may be included in a high-temperature probe suitable for immersion in the melt, so that accumulated accretions of powder on the walls of the probe may be melted off by heating the probe.
Abstract: A continuous operation press for the manufacture and treatment of a board web of prefabricated or raw material, wherein the board web is passed into an inlet region between the upper and lower stringers of upper and lower endless belts traveling at a predetermined velocity in the transport direction, wherein there is provided a smooth coating formed with grooves serving as a sliding surface located at least in the main press and calibration regions. The board web glides above the smooth coating with the aid of fluid lubricant, the lubricant being supplied to the smooth coating through supply openings and discharged therefrom through discharge openings. Each groove in the smooth coating is formed with an opening therein either as a supply or discharge opening, each groove having a lubricant supply opening being positioned adjacent a groove having a lubricant discharge opening. Means are provided for controlling the pressure in at least some of said grooves for generation of a counter-pressure.
Abstract: The invention relates to a process and an apparatus for preparing binder-free hot-briquets for smelting purposes from ferrous pyrophorous, finely divided solids, such as dry steelmaking-filter dust or slightly granular sponge iron from direct-reduction plants. Before the briquetting stage, oxidizing gas is blown at a temperature of more than 200.degree. C. through the finely divided dry solid containing more than 4% by weight of metallic iron. The flow rate of this gas is controlled in such a way that oxidation of some of the metallic iron raises the temperature of the finely divided solid to 450.degree. to 650.degree. C. This is followed by hot-briquetting.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing wood-like molded products comprising the steps of preparing a fine powder of wood material solidified by a thermosetting resin and mixing the same with a resin. More particularly, it relates to a method for manufacturing a molded product having improved quality, and especially the advantages of both wood and plastic by eliminating water and wood vinegar contained in the wood chip aggregate to be mixed and by imparting a surface smoothness.
