The applicator includes a hollow tube portion defining an axial bore therethrough and a handle operatively connected to the tube portion. The tube portion is sufficient in length to support the sheath member in a folded condition thereof with a major portion of the length of the sheath member disposed about the tubular portion.

The handle is joined to the shaft in such a way that an outer side of the instrument facing away from the handle continuously has a surface that, from the distal to the proximal end, is free of projections. The eyepiece cup is arranged in oblique orientation with respect to a longitudinal center axis of the shaft and encloses with the handle, with respect to the longitudinal center axis, an angle of less than 90°.

    Abstract: Cooling pads, mattresses, and limb-comforming sleeves reduce a person's temperature by evaporative and/or conducting cooling. An open cell foam pad defines an internal air flow passages proceeding according to serpentine or other desired routing. The pad is wetted, and a blower circulates air through the air flow passage and evaporatively cools the pad by removing warm water vapor. By contacting the cooled structure, the person is conductively cooled. The pad also employs evaporative cooling if water is permitted to seep from the foam pad onto the person's skin and subsequently evaporate. Another cooling device is a multi-layer evaporative cooling mattress. The mattress comprises an open cell foam structure having a person-receiving side and a base side. At the person-receiving side lies an absorbent layer with internal liquid delivery lines, and optionally having an outer film applied thereto.

    Abstract: A method for producing an endoscopic drape includes positioning a portion of a sheath of flexible material (22) in abutment with a joining portion (23) of a first housing piece (14). This forms a housing (12) in which the portion of the sheath (22) is entrapped between the first housing piece (14) and the second housing piece (16). The portion of the sheath (22) may be joined to the first housing piece (14) by a thermoplastic gasket or o-ring (35) prior to joining the first and second housing pieces (14, 16) to improve the seal between the sheath (22) and the housing (12). The housing (12) includes a clear lens or window (27) that provides an optical pathway through the housing and also provides a sterility barrier.

    Abstract: An apparatus and method for cleaning the objective lens of a laparoscope, endoscope, or coeloscope during surgery and also removing the solution and debris during and after the cleaning. The result is obtained by using a rigid hollow split sheath for the scope. The split sheath has two separate channels. One channel is for irrigation and the cleaning fluid flows through this channel to be directed onto the lens. The other channel is for suction to remove the solution and debris during and after the cleaning. Control buttons located at the operator's end activate the irrigation and suction functions. The control buttons for irrigation and suction are fabricated into an existing valve type device which can regulate either of these functions. In addition, two ports, one for irrigation and one for suction emerge from the operator's end to connect to the appropriate tubing for irrigation and suction.

The legs may be individually adjusted to provide the tubular body at a desired angle relative to the chest wall. According to preferred aspects of the port device, the platform may be ratcheted relative to the port body and the feet may be ratcheted relative to the platform to permit rapid adjustment of the port relative to the patient.
