  • Patent number: 5114395
Abstract: A feed mechanism for a folding machine and a folding machine for sheet material. The folding machine has a plurality of rollers for folding sheet material, drive means for rotating said rollers, at least two pocket assemblies with microswitches positioned to be contacted by sheet material passing through said pocket assemblies. The drive means are controlled by these pocket assembly microswitches and a cam microswitch, which is contacted by a cam attached at one end of a roller. The feed mechanism consists of a roller flat having a curved side and a flat side. Between the flat side and a second roller, a gap is formed allowing sheet material to be inserted directly into a first pocket assembly. The sheet material thus inserted contacts a microswitch located in the pocket assembly activating the drive means which turns the roller flat so that its curved side forms a take-in nip with the second roller, feeding the paper in further to begin the folding process.

  • Patent number: 5105587
Abstract: Apparatus for surface treatment of workpieces has a rotary horizontal cage with inclined end walls and a set of elongated rod-shaped or bar-shaped components between the end walls. The end walls are rotatable in inclined carriers which cause them to act not unlike swash plates and to cause the components to reciprocate in response to rotation of the cage about its axis. The end portions of the components are tensionsed by springs which react against the end walls and bear against axially adjustable nuts at the free ends of the components at the outer sides of the end walls. The end walls have relatively large holes to ensure that the components are not flexed during reciprocation in response to rotation of the cage. Workpieces to be treated, e.g., by sprays of solid particles, are introduced through one of the end walls and advance toward the other end wall at a speed which is determined by the extent of reciprocatory movement of the components and the rotational speed of the cage.

  • Patent number: 5104368
Abstract: A machine and method for setting up cartons by inserting the bottoms of the cartons into the tops of the cartons consists of first and second parallel ramp portions onto which the respective sections of the carton are fed. Laterally adjustable vertical guides are located on the outer portions of the ramp portions to maintain proper orientation of carton sections as they slide down the ramp portions. The ramp portions terminate at respective backstops which limit further movement of carton sections. A pneumatically operated pusher, responsive to limit switches located in the backstops, inserts the bottom carton section into the top carton section and subsequently pushes the set-up carton off from the machine only when the limit switches indicate that both carton sections are properly positioned against the backstops. The pusher portion is supported by a sliding side guide which also acts as a stop for preventing incoming cartons from reaching the set-up area until the pusher is fully withdrawn.
