  • Patent number: 4808048
Abstract: A method and apparatus for compensating displacements of a machine point due to temperature changes, such as the temperature-related displacement of a work spindle axis of a milling machine relative to a machine reference point. The measurement values of the intended positioning of the work spindle axis are determined by means of a position measuring device which includes at least one first sensing device for sensing a measuring scale. A second sensing device connected to a housing of the work spindle through a push rod of a material having a small coefficient of expansion is used to directly determine the temperature-related displacement with respect to direction and magnitude. The determined value is computed into the measurement value of the intended position by means of an analyzing unit. The result is a compensation of the temperature-related displacement of the work spindle axis.

  • Patent number: 4804340
Abstract: A transformer terminal block molded from plastic is disclosed having a U-shaped skirt portion fitting in the gap between the coil and the core, to provide the required creepage distance at two adjacent corners of the coil, without the need for taping the corners. The described transformer has a new metallic terminal bay structure which facilitates the assembly of the transformer. The assembly is also facilitated by the described structure of the underside of the terminal base which simplifies the leading of magnetic wires from different windings, terminating on top of the coil, to the respective terminals. The invention presents a substantial simplification of the structure and manufacture of transformers having plastic molded terminal blocks.

  • Patent number: 4802799
Abstract: A drill bit tip construction wherein the cutting edge at the tip of the drill bit is arranged to cause fragmentation of the chips being removed from the work metal during the drilling operation. The cutting edge of the drill bit at the drilling tip is made to be wavy and, in the illustrated embodiment, is defined by a plurality of segmentally cylindrical grooves extending parallel to the longitudinal extent of the flutes at the tip. In the illustrated embodiment, the grooves have a radius of approximately 0.05" and a length substantially greater than the radius to permit repeated resharpening of the drill bit with resultant reforming of the desired wavy cutting edge in the resharpened tip. In the illustrated embodiment, the cutting edge is formed in an insert secured as by brazing in a diametric slot at the tip. The insert may be formed of a carbide material having optimum cutting characteristics. The grooves are provided in the insert by use of an electric discharge wire cutting machine.
