  • Patent number: 6142407
Abstract: A web winding apparatus and a method of operating the apparatus are disclosed. The apparatus can include a turret assembly, a core loading apparatus, and a core stripping apparatus. The turret assembly supports rotatably driven mandrels for engaging hollow cores upon which a paper web is wound. Each mandrel is driven in a closed mandrel path, which can be non-circular. The core loading apparatus conveys cores onto the mandrels during movement of the mandrels along the core loading segment of the closed mandrel path, and the core stripping apparatus removes each web wound core from its respective mandrel during movement of the mandrel along the core stripping segment of the closed mandrel path. The turret assembly can be rotated continuously, and the sheet count per wound log can be changed as the turret assembly is rotating. The apparatus can also include a mandrel having a deformable core engaging member.

  • Patent number: 6086013
Abstract: A frame that folds to a compact, folded, generally flat shape, and that unfolds to an A-frame with spool-receiving bars hung preferably on both the front side frame and back side frame of the A-frame. The spool-receiving bars are removably received in the cradle spaces of open-topped brackets that extend from the frames. Preferably, no connection is made between the A-frame and the bar or spools, except that the bar rests securely in the brackets due to gravity. Each bar has at least one, and preferably only one, set of radial plates near one end. The plates are spaced to abut the sides of the bracket and/or the side surfaces of the preferred square tubing of the frame legs, so that the plates prevent axial movement of the bar so that the bar ends do not slide or fall out of the brackets. The plates may be sized to also act as a retainer for holding the spools from falling off of that end of the bar when the bar-spool unit is being removed from the caddy and transported or otherwise handled.

  • Patent number: 6086006
Abstract: For use in obtaining and maintaining evidentiary integrity as admissible evidence of audio and/or video recorded factual events on a recording tape, feed and a take-up reels each has two paired separate female bearing surfaces. For each of the feed reel and the take-up reel when utilized in paired or cassette arrangement, one of the paired two female bearing surfaces is of a differing shape and/or dimension than the remaining one. One of the paired female bearing surfaces is permanently detachably from the other. The other of the paired female bearing surfaces is inaccessible for the spindle-gear driving thereof by a drive spindle prior to removal or detachment of the initially utilizable drive or feed surface(s). The feed reel removable female bearing surface has a different size or shape or inner diameter of the female bearing surface than that of the female bearing surface of the drive reel.

  • Patent number: 5967437
Abstract: A machine for winding film, a method of manufacturing spools of pre-stretched film, and spools of pre-stretched film obtained as a result, are disclosed. The method of winding spools of pre-stretched stretchable film includes importing oscillation to the film with a component perpendicular to the axis of the film. For example, during pre-stretched and winding of the film on a take-up spool, a feed spool, i.e. a spool from which the stretchable film for stretching is taken, is caused to oscillate, and/or the take-up core is caused to oscillate. This ensures that successive layers of film are offset, in particular at the margins of the film. Spools of film obtained in this way do not have portions of extra thickness and lower tension at the margins as is the case prior art spools of pre-stretched film.

  • Patent number: 5947408
Abstract: A recording device operable with continuous paper in the form of a roll includes a pair of drive rollers for selectively rotating the roll in the forward direction for paying out the paper or in the reverse direction. A controller causes the drive rollers to rotate in the reverse direction in response to a preselected signal. Bar codes representative of serial numbers are printed on one side edge of the paper. While the roll is rotated in the reverse direction, a number identification circuit reads the bar codes 41 and detects the leading edge of the paper on the basis of one bar code positioned at the leading edge and another bar code adjoining a roll position which the leading edge overlies. When the number identification circuit detects the leading edge, the controller switches the direction of rotation of the roll from reverse to forward.

  • Patent number: 5944277
Abstract: A self-locking belt reel has a housing and a reeling shaft rotatably supported in housing. A vehicle sensitive, belt sensitive, or vehicle and belt sensitive control system for locking a movement of the reeling shaft is provided. The control system includes a control disk connected to the reeling shaft. A control pinion is connected to the control disk. A control member meshes with the control pinion. The control member is moveable from a rotational position into a locking position. The control member is moveable between a rotational position and a locking position, wherein in the rotational position the control member releases the control disk and wherein in the locking position the control member locks the control disk to block rotation of the reeling shaft. The control member is in the rotational position when the belt is in an initial state wound onto the reeling shaft. The control member is in the locking position when the belt has been removed by a predetermined amount from the reeling shaft.
