  • Patent number: 4780336
Abstract: An improved doctor blade, for use at a downstream end of a pressurized coating material application zone of a paper coater, has a tip portion of a limited length and first thickness and a major body portion of a second and increased thickness. The increased thickness of the major body portion enables the doctor blade to resist flexure caused by variations in pressure of the coating material in the zone, so that the blade tip more uniformly meters and levels coating on a paper web. Also contemplated is an arrangement for clamping the blade at the downstream end of the application zone, in a manner to minimize flexure of the blade in response to variations in pressure of the coating material in the zone.

  • Patent number: 4779561
Abstract: The crucible is of the type in which substrates to be epitaxially coated are disposed in a slide comprising a substrate carrier (7), whose displacement permits of bringing the substrates (9) successively into contact with different baths of epitaxy. It comprises a compartment (2), in which tightening slides (11) and solution-containing slides (12) are alternately stacked, each of the latter slides having a cavity receiving a solution (14) and merging at the lower part of the said slide (12). The tightening slides (11) close the lower part of the cavities (45). The slide comprising a substrate carrier (7) can be translated between a rear position in which it is disengaged from the stack and a front position in which, after having driven out the lower slide of the stack, it is situated under this stack.

  • Patent number: 4779565
Abstract: A method and apparatus for printing through holes in ceramic substrates and the like. The substrate is held in position by means of a vacuum applied to an outer peripheral surface portion thereof. The deposited substance is pulled through the holes in the substrate by means of a closely regulated vaccuum applied only to an inner surface portion, the inner and outer vacuum areas being separated in a holder device by means of O-rings. A pressure-time profile which appears in a plenum closely adjacent to the inner chamber may be compared to a previously generated pressure-time profile reference and used to accept or reject parts.

  • Patent number: 4777905
Abstract: A carriage (1) is guided coaxially to the axis (11) of a pipe (9) to be repaired by two sets (2, 3) of sprung rollers (4, 5). The carriage supports a drive motor (28), on the drive shaft (29, 30) of which is fixed a distributor means in the form of rollers (41). Coating material, for example a pressure setting plastic, is applied via a supply pipe (45) to the underside of the pipe wall (8) and is distributed by the turning rollers (41) over the circumference. In this way damaged sewer pipes can be correctly coated with small effort.

  • Patent number: 4774904
Abstract: Horizontal slider for the fabrication of semiconductor devices employs a succession of reservoirs and wells for successive applications of material in the growing of multiple layer semiconductor devices. The apparatus is composed of three assemblies each of which is fabricated of graphite to avoid contamination of the semiconductor material. The apparatus is operated within a furnace wherein the temperature is varied between a relatively high temperature for providing saturated solutions, to a lower temperature during which epitaxial growth can occur, and ambient temperature for completion of a fabrication procedure. One of the assemblies contains a set of wells, a second assembly contains reservoirs and slides horizontally upon the assembly of wells for alternately communicating reservoirs with wells and terminating such communication for a filling of the wells with requisite melts.

  • Patent number: 4773352
Abstract: For a very rapidly running press, in which webs are attached together by application of a series of linear transverse portions of glue instead of clipping them together, the known adhesive applicator technology when a different spacing is desired between the portions of glue or adhesive applied to the sheet, require changeover of the entire apparatus. With the present invention there is a division of the adhesive application operation between two different groups of components of which one group is a part of an operating machine while the second group is mutually interchangeable with other members of the group having a different size. The first group of components includes a shaft for the applicator cylinder with its drive, its bearing, a control means and a central body nonrotatably attached to the shaft.

  • Patent number: 4773351
Abstract: A doctor blade mounting is provided for use in association with a running web of sheet material, such as, for example, paper. The doctor blade mounting includes a doctor blade column retained in a blade bed which is formed of an elastomeric material. A leaf spring is provided for providing tension between the doctor blade column and the running web and is secured to the blade bed by a guide shaft adapted to receive an end of the leaf spring. The leaf spring is secured in the guide shaft by retaining means, i.e., catches, cams or flanges. Due to the creation of a flexible portion within the blade bed, the leaf spring can be unlocked after removal of the doctor blade column.

  • Patent number: 4770119
Abstract: A method and device of performing plating of an item having a row of fine parts, e.g. a flatpack IC are disclosed. The method comprises immersing said item in a bath of molten solder, removing said item from said bath while maintaining said item in an attitude such that said row of fine parts is sloped with respect to the surface of said molten solder, and causing flux to exert a fluxing action on said molten solder which adheres to said fine parts, thereby decreasing the surface tension of the solder adhering to said fine parts and preventing bridges of solder from forming between said fine parts.

  • Patent number: 4761309
Abstract: A coating apparatus is disclosed for applying a coating onto a surface of a moving web. The apparatus includes a backing member which defines a perforate surface such that when the member is connected to a source of partial vacuum, the web is drawn towards the perforate surface of the member. A coating blade is disposed adjacent to the backing member such that the blade urges the web towards the perforate surface. A permeable belt extends around the backing member with the belt being disposed between the web and the backing member such that when the source of partial vacuum is connected to the backing member, air flows through the belt and the perforate surface for drawing the web into close conformity with the belt. The belt and the web then move together in the same direction for inhibiting the buildup of deleterious material adjacent to the blade that would otherwise remain adjacent to the blade causing marking of the coating applied to the surface of the web by the blade.
