  • Patent number: 8201198
Abstract: An information processing system, an information processing apparatus and method, a recording medium, and a computer program can easily provide a user with program information, which is easier to see for the user, and display the program information on a limited screen space effectively. An EPG server of the service provider creates EPG information on the basis of information on programs of a broadcasting station and lays open the EPG information to the outside of the EPG server. An editing server acquires and edits the EPG information periodically at predetermined intervals and lays open edited EPG information to the public. A hard disk recorder requests the edited EPG information from the editing server through a network on the basis of an instruction of a user and causes a monitor to display the edited EPG information supplied from the editing server on the basis of the request. The invention can be applied to an EPG providing system.

  • Patent number: 8161509
Abstract: A television broadcasting device 1 transmits a television signal onto which control data for controlling a browser function of a television receiver 2 has been multiplexed. A television screen generating section 20 generates a television screen based on the received television signal. A browser display instruction obtaining section 71, a URL obtaining section 72, and a display style information obtaining section 73 extract the control data multiplexed onto the television signal. When a browser display instruction 111 is received, a microcomputer 51 receives a content 102 corresponding to a URL 112 from a server 3, and generates a browser screen based thereon. A screen combining section 30 combines the browser screen with the television screen in accordance with display style information 113 received from the microcomputer 51. Thus, it is possible to display the browser screen in a combined form with the television screen in accordance with a display style designated by a broadcaster of the television signal.

  • Patent number: 8154669
Abstract: A system includes a light source, a driving module and a processing unit. The light source includes a red, green and blue light emitting diodes. The driving module is electrically coupled to the red, green and blue light emitting diodes. The driving module is for controlling a driving current outputted to each of the red, green and blue light emitting diodes. The processing unit is communicatively coupled to the driving module. The processing unit receives a video signal containing display information which is inputted into a display screen and is to be displayed thereon. The processing unit analyzes the video signal and determines color temperature of the display information, and outputs a first controlling signal to the driving module for synchronously adjusting the color temperature of the light emitted from the light source to be substantially equal to that of the display information displayed on the display screen.

  • Patent number: 8156521
Abstract: A receiver has a tuner for receiving a TV broadcast program and a modem for receiving an e-mail. Also, the receiver outputs a message if there exists any unopened e-mail. In addition, the receiver has a camera for sending a videophone image. A viewer in front of the receiver is recognized, and it is determined whether or not the recognized viewer matches the addressee of the unopened e-mail. If a result of the determination is negative, a message output operation is prohibited.

  • Patent number: 8136135
Abstract: Methods, systems, and products block objectionable content and substitute alternative content. Multiple fields of a preferred tag are retrieved from memory. Multiple fields of an alternative tag, associated with alternative content, are retrieved from the memory. A number of matching fields, between the multiple fields of the preferred tag and the multiple fields of the corresponding alternative tag, are determined. The number of matching fields is compared to a threshold value. When the number of matching fields exceeds the threshold value, then the alternative content is substituted for the objectionable content.

  • Patent number: 8032917
Abstract: A Download Control Message instructs a set-top terminal in a cable television system to located and immediately begin downloading a code or other data object available over the cable system. The Download Control Message specifies, for example, the size, name, version and location (URL or transport stream and PID) of the object to be acquired by the set-top terminal. The terminal accordingly can begin immediate acquisition of the object. An address or other characteristic associated with the Download Control Message allows the system operator to target the Message to a particular set-top terminal or group of terminals.

  • Patent number: 7979055
Abstract: When a server receives an information designating image from a communication terminal connected to a server through a network, it sends a URL identifying the storage location of the image to the communication terminal. When the communication terminal receives the URL, it loads the URL into an email and transmits the email to another communication terminal. When the communication terminal that received this email finds out that the URL integrated in the email identifies the storage location of the image, it downloads the image from the server and displays it along with the email by using the URL.

  • Patent number: 7761897
Abstract: A TV receiver preliminarily measures and stores, in a memory, data of best receiving directions, each giving maximum signal intensity, of a multi-directional antenna for receivable channels. When the antenna rotationally shifts physically for some reason, one channel is selected and subjected to measurements by an omni-directional scanning again to determine a new best receiving direction. A receiving direction number difference between the stored best receiving direction and the new best receiving direction of the same channel is determined. Using the receiving direction number difference for the one channel, all data stored in the memory are renewed at one time, the data being the best receiving direction numbers and the signal intensities therefor for all the channels. The antenna direction can be quickly adjusted to the rotational shift by new measurements for one channel, without requiring time to make unnecessary measurements for all channels, achieving a best receiving condition steadily.
