  • Patent number: 6343156
Abstract: A video encoding apparatus is provided with a resolution converting section, an encoding section, and a transmitting section. The resolution converting section enlarges or reduces a binary picture which represents the shape of an object. The encoding section encodes a binary picture reduced by the resolution converting section. The reduction ratio used by the resolution converting section is encoded, and the transmitting section transmits this encoded reduction ratio along with encoded data on the binary picture. The amount of encoded data produced from the encoding section is controlled by changing the enlargement/reduction ratio used by the resolution converting section.

  • Patent number: 5581376
Abstract: Input device signals R.sub.s, G.sub.s, B.sub.s generated by an image input terminal are converted to colorimetric values R.sub.c, G.sub.c, B.sub.c. The colorimetric values processed by an image processing unit to generate address entries to a lookup table which stores a set of transform coefficients with which the R.sub.c, G.sub.c, B.sub.c values may be processed to convert them to C.sub.x, M.sub.x, Y.sub.x, K.sub.x colorant signals or any multi-dimensional output color space, which include but are not limited to CMYK or spectral data. Values which are not directly mapped from the table are determined using tetrahedral interpolation over a hexagonal lattice. The hexagonal lattice is formed by offsetting by a half unit every other row of one of its dimensions relative to another dimension. The offset provides closer packing of sample points that define more regular tetrahedrons to reduce relative interpolation errors.

  • Patent number: 5581636
Abstract: A concentric ring target detector receives input pixel data from an optical scanning device. The pixel data represents images on a conveyor belt and moving objects bearing information-encoded labels which are advanced by the conveyor belt. Input pixel data is alternately applied to a pair of FIFO blocks, one of such blocks receiving odd and even pixels from scan line N, the other of the blocks receiving pixels from scan line N-1. Pixels from the FIFO blocks are coupled through a pixel switch to a multi-tap first-in first-out block. Each FIFO block applies data to the pixel switch at one-half the rate at which it was received by the FIFO block to maintain constant throughput without the FIFO's overflowing or emptying. The pixel switch ensures that the pixels from scan lines N and N-1 remain in serial order. Pixels from scan line N and N-1 are shifted through a multi-tap FIFO.
