  • Patent number: 6139413
Abstract: A method and apparatus for preventing lateral movement of a movable brake member of a brake assembly when in engagement with a rotatable brake member having a braking surface. The method includes creating a plurality of grooves in the braking surface. Each groove is parallel to adjacent grooves so that peaks are formed on a movable brake member which mirror the plurality of grooves. The peaks track within the grooves to prevent lateral movement of the movable brake member with respect to the braking surface. The apparatus includes a brake resurfacer for resurfacing a braking surface of a vehicle brake assembly while the braking surface is mounted to a vehicle. The resurfacer includes a substrate figured for mounting in the brake assembly in place of a movable brake member. The substrate supports cutting teeth, tines or an abrasive for removing braking surface material to resurface the braking surface.

  • Patent number: 5551137
Abstract: A method for assembling an apparatus that removes solid waste material from a stream of water. The apparatus sits in a channel within which the water containing waste material flows. A plurality of vertically oriented, laterally spaced apart, rotating screens are driven by sprocket segments and provide a filtering function. The screens are formed by plural loops of articulated links. Each link includes a horizontally-extending part that lifts solid matter from the stream as the screens rotate. The assembly method includes placing the links on shafts in a predetermined pattern that creates a frusto-conical space bordered by links. The frusto-conical space provides ample clearance space for each sprocket segment and ensures that the sprocket segments will not rub against the links which in turn prevents the parts of the apparatus from becoming misaligned with respect to one another so that the apparatus may operate for extended periods of time without requiring adjustment.

  • Patent number: 5178339
Abstract: The present invention discloses an improved rotor disc for a refiner and its method of formation. The invention comprises a plurality of blade members spaced apart by a spacer between each adjacent blade member. Dams may be provided on the spacer. In forming the preferred disc, the plurality of blades and spacers are secured one to the other to form a blade segment. A plurality of blade segments are affixed one to the other to, in turn, form the disc. The invention is characterized by an absence of any mounting plate or base member. The method of the invention is characterized by a continuous weld along either of the inner circumference or the outer circumference of the disc.

  • Patent number: 5161295
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of assembling a friction clutch, wherein the clutch housing is centered with a cylindrical portion on a cylindrical guide of the flywheel and the axially correct position is found by axial application and measurement of the initial tension of the clutch main spring and the clutch housing and flywheel are rigidly connected to one another in this state.

  • Patent number: 5074474
Abstract: Biological material is suspended in a liquid and, in the presence of reverberative bodies suspended in the suspension of biological material, subjected to ultrasound thereby to disintegrate the biological material. The disintegration is conducted in a spherical chamber at approximately the center of which is the radiating surface of a sonotrode. The diameter of the chamber is at least three times the diameter of the radiating surface and the radiating surface faces the bottom of the chamber. The suspension of the biological material is pumped upwards through the chamber.

  • Patent number: 5048173
Abstract: A machine is provided for automatically applying a balance correcting weight (44)-and-clip (46) assembly to a vehicle wheel-and-tire assembly (12). The machine includes a conveyor (20) portion for conveying the wheel-and-tire assembly (12) to which the balance-correcting weight (44) is to be applied to a weight (44) application station, orienting the wheel-and-tire assembly (12) properly to receive at the correct location the balance-correcting weight (44), and conveying the wheel-and-tire assembly (12) to which the balance-correcting weight (44) has been applied away from the weight (44) application station.

  • Patent number: 4898334
Abstract: An arrangement for securing a cap to the end of a supporting body of a hammer mill rotor. The forward end of the supporting body end is provided with a front projection that is an integral part of the supporting body end and extends parallel to the axis of rotation of the rotor. The rearward end of the supporting body end is provided with a recessed portion for receiving a filler member that forms a rear projection. The front and rear walls of the cap are provided with respective flanges that are directed toward one another, extend parallel to the axis of rotation of the rotor, and extend in a hook-like manner about the front and rear projections. The cap covers all sides of the supporting body end but leaves free spaces between a hammer shaft and the side walls of the cap.

  • Patent number: 4461061
Abstract: A method and apparatus for connecting wire to insulation displacement-type, circuit board-mounted electrical contacts comprises automatic positioning and orienting of individual contacts relative to a wire insertion head. A portion of wire is fed from a supply to the tip of a pusher which inserts this portion into fingers of the contact; another contact is positioned and oriented relative to the pusher to receive a second portion of the wire and provide a wire run between the contacts. The wire run can be terminated at the last contact without repositioning the contact and pusher relative to each other, with the remaining supply wire being prepared for another insertion.
