  • Patent number: 4880220
Abstract: A device for holding an object in a spatial position containing a pallet-presetting structure on which a pallet is located. This pallet is held on the presetting structure. The presetting structure contains a base plate, a second plate setting on top of the latter, and a third plate. The second plate is connected both to the base plate and to the upper plate by hinges. The respective hinge pair each has an axis which is at right angles to the other. In this way, the plates can be swung open to define a right angle to one another. A vertical measuring column is also provided. By this device, a point of an object can be exactly measured or set in a horizontal position by the vertical measuring column.

  • Patent number: 4878406
Abstract: A screwdriver blade is provided which has greater resistance to failure. The screwdriver blade includes an elongate shank with a tapered end extending from the shank and terminating in a tip. The tip has a straight edge perpendicular to the shank and is of a predetermined thickness, with parallel, planar sides extending back from the edge a distance which is approximately equal to the thickness of the edge. Opposite surfaces of the blade end then extend abruptly outwardly in a direction toward the shank, each at an angle of approximately fifteen degrees to an axis of the blade. An analysis has indicated that the greatest stress in a screwdriver blade occurs at a predetermined distance back from the straight edge of the blade. The new blade is thicker and stronger at the areas where the greatest stress occurs.

  • Patent number: 4875266
Abstract: There is disclosed an easily releasable fastener which is specifically designed for high torque applications. The fastener comprises a slotted nut having at least two axial slots, and preferably no more than one of the slots extends completely through the body of the fastener. The slots divide the fastener into at least two segments which, in the preferred embodiment are retained together by the residual portions of the incomplete slots. Each of the segments has a flat surface for torque transmission and the assembly of segments is surrounded by a thin retainer band seated in an annular groove about the body of the fastener. The fastener is mounted within a retaining ring which has internal flats that coact with the flatted surfaces of the individual segments. The retaining ring has external wrenching flats to permit the application of the fastener to a standard bolt.

  • Patent number: 4872644
Abstract: A tool for compressing the coil spring of a motor vehicle suspension strut comprises a rack with opposed sets of cleats mounted thereon which are adapted to grip respective coils of the spring intermediate its ends. The sets of cleats are selectively movable towards or away from each other along the rack by rotating a crank handle. Within each set, the cleat spacing may be adjusted by moving the cleats along arms on which they are mounted.

  • Patent number: 4872331
Abstract: An apparatus for constructing a roof on a structue using elongated roofing members, as well as the elongated roofing members. Elongated roofing members are produced, preferably near or on the structure, by continuously forming suitable male and female flanges on sheet metal material and periodically cutting the sheet metal material to predetermined lengths. The male and female flanges of adjacent elongated roofing members are interconnected by deflecting a portion of the female flange about the male flange to crimp the male flange between portions of the female flange. A plurality of clips having flanges may be interconnected with the structure, whereby the flanges are engagable, together with the male flanges, with the female flanges to provide for rapid simultaneous interconnection of both the female flange and the male flange with the structure.

  • Patent number: 4870879
Abstract: A torque wrench including a shank, a ratchet arm, a torque assembly, a fixed handle, and an axially stable dial. The shank has a flattened portion and a cylindrical portion, both of which are hollow. The ratchet arm pivotably fits in the flattened portion of the shank and the torque assembly fits in the cylindrical portion of the shank. One end of the ratchet arm has a butt with a shank pin fixed on the end of it for contacting with a roller of the torque assembly. The force applied by the roller to the shank pin in proportional to the amount a dial is rotated by a user.

  • Patent number: 4864709
Abstract: Tools having utility in the repair of outboard units. A first tool pulls a propeller off its shaft, and a second tool pulls a bearing carrier off the shaft and removes it from the inside of the outboard unit. Both tools include an elongate screw that axially advances to affect the desired pulling and both tools engage radially disposed struts of the item to be pulled when operatively deployed. The housing of each tool includes puller members terminating in strut-engaging mating surfaces at the distal free end thereof that abuttingly engage the struts from behind and exert a pulling force against them as the screw is rotated.

  • Patent number: 4856767
Abstract: A radiator lifting and holding apparatus includes an upright support stand, a radiator clamping mechanism, a stop mechanism, and a radiator winch-type lifting mechanism. The clamping mechanism includes a pair of clamping members coupled to respective upright post members of an upright structure of the support stand for adjustable movement toward and away from one another for clamping a radiator therebetween at a desired elevation above the ground while at the same time allowing rotation of the radiator to a desired angular position. The stop mechanism is mounted on one upright post member of the support stand and is cooperable with one of the clamping members to lock the radiator against further rotation and thus maintain it stationary at the desired angular position.

  • Patent number: 4852855
Abstract: Large, flat objects such as manhole covers, storm drain grates and the like, are lifted and maneuvered. A tool includes a gripper assembly which receives the object at or near an edge and establishes control by an arrangement of at least one concentrated contact area or pressure point on one surface of the object and a pair of such concentrated contact areas or pressure points on the other surface. A long lever handle allows pivoting to raise the object; rollers on the tool accommodate maneuvering afterwards. Avoidance of runaway rolling and maintenance of positive movement control is possible by a stub or pin which is attachable is desired to engage the ground, street or the like, after the object is lifted.
