    Abstract: A method of manufacturing light detection units which comprise a photocathode disposed on an entrance window, an electron detector including a semiconductor junction, and means which transmit the electrons from the photocathode to the electron detector including a perforated aperture plate disposed between the entrance window and the electron detector. The photocathode is formed on a surface of the entrance window after assembling the entrance window and electron detector to the means which transmit the electrons. Perforations in the aperture plate are covered with spherical shields while the photocathode is formed on the surface of the entrance window. The shields are then removed.

    Abstract: A method of constructing a gas discharge display device in such a manner that contaminants found within the completed display are significantly reduced. The process for assembly of the display incorporates the utilization of a spacer member having a higher melting temperature than the display's perimeter seal and is designed to hold the plates apart without letting certain portions of the sealing material contact the opposing substrate. The use of the spacer member of high temperature material permits a higher temperature to be achieved in the vacuum furnace for evacuating the contaminants produced by out-gassing of impurities in the dielectric and conductive materials as well as the glass substrates and the sealing material. The sealing time for the display after evacuation is shortened to prevent or greatly reduce the possible entrapment of impurities in the display during the higher temperature final sealing step.

    Abstract: A component lead wire cutting equipment includes upper and lower levers for gripping a pair of lead wires of an electric component extending in the same direction. A driving device moves the levers. A pair of cutter blades are mounted on the levers to spread the pitch of the lead wires to a given size, and to cut off the lead wires. A pair of regulating convex portions regulate the movement of the lead wires along their spreading direction in the position between the cutter blades and the component body. During the cutting operation of the lead wires the component is prevented from being broken or from being inclined in its body.

    Abstract: A collapsible frame for supporting a container is manufactured from two loops formed from a single length of wire which are intertwined to form a handle and sprung to form base members which are yieldably urged apart. An inwardly narrowed neck portion is formed intermediate the handle and the base members to provide points of support for the container. A containment loop encompasses the neck portion of the frame and inwardly urges the points of support against the container as it is pushed into position within the containment loop. The base members are capable of being pressed into a planar assembly when the container is removed to allow a plurality of similarly constructed frames to be compactly stacked.

Provision is made for moving the axis of rotation of the annulus being formd as the overall diameter increases in such manner that the relation between place of delivery of the hot strip with respect to the winding apparatus remains constant. Preferably the annulus forming apparatus is combined with a continuous casting apparatus whereby the formation of the strip and the forming of the annulus take place at the same speed.

    Abstract: An apparatus and method are provided for forming elongated solid shapes from solid flowable materials such as metal powders, metal shot, fragments or segments of metal in a weldable condition by continuously feeding same to die means which includes two or more power rotated rolls or rollers between which the flowable material is fed and compressed to define its shape. In one form the flowable material or particles may be cold pressured welded into the shape defined by the surfaces of the rolls and their spacing. In another form, heat may be generated within or transferred to the material between the rolls by induction or resistence heating means disposed within or adjacent to the rolls, wherein the heat and the high pressure applied to the material by the rolls serves to fuse or weld the material fed therebetween into a solid porous or non-porous mass as it is fed through the rolls.

    Abstract: A method for jointing two pipes such as an aluminum pipe and a copper pipe by friction welding. The aluminum pipe is inserted into a bore of a ring made of a heat resistant material, the bore having a straight section and a tapered section continuous from the straight section. The copper pipe has a tapered end peripheral surface. The copper pipe is pressed at its tapered end, in a rotating state, against the end of the aluminum pipe so as to expand the latter. As a result, an ironing is effected on the aluminum pipe by the straight section of the bore of the ring, such that the aluminum pipe overlies the straight section of the copper pipe in close contact with the latter. Consequently, the tapered surface of the copper pipe is friction welded to corresponding portion of the aluminum pipe while the latter is being backed up by the tapered section of the bore of the ring.

Means are provided for connecting the heating wire to the space outside the solder collector tube.

    Abstract: A pyroelectric detector comprising a wafer of pyroelectric material, means for collecting electrical charge indicative of energy absorbed by the wafer, electrical means for removing and processing the collected charge, a base defining at least one supporting surface, and a flexible suspension for supporting the wafer in spaced relation to the supporting surface. The suspension includes a plurality of link elements each in the form of a thin metal wire fixed to the supporting surface and to a surface of the wafer and located around the periphery of the wafer. Each link preferably has a shape like an arch with both ends fixed to the supporting surface and the wafer surface fixed to the arch between the ends thereof. The link elements have sufficient strength to hold the wafer in spaced relation to the supporting surface, and the links have sufficient flexibility to absorb shock and vibration forces and to compensate for different coefficients of thermal expansion of said wafer and said supporting surface.

In manufacturing a printed circuit board (160) the cold weld die (158) is produced with the same drill hole pattern as used to form the drill holes in the printed circuit board (160).
