Abstract: Disclosed herein are a novel group of compounds, termed Recognins, and particularly Recognin M and Recognin L produced, respectively, from artificial mammary and lymphoma cancer cells. The Recognins are useful for diagnostic purposes.
Abstract: A maltodextrin phosphorylase limit dextrin in the presence of maltodextrin phosphorylase and inorganic phosphate, is used as a substrate for alpha-amylase, which initiates a series of enzymatic reactions resulting in a chromogen response which can be used to measure the concentration of alpha-amylase in a body fluid. A novel limit dextrin and its preparation also are described.

Abstract: Differentiation, identification and enumeration of dye responsive human blood cells essential to diagnosis and prognosis of certain diseases is established by preparation of the reaction product of a human blood specimen of the patient in an aqueous fixative-free environment at blood temperatures with selected basic, cationic quaternary dyes, particularly basic orange #21. The so-prepared specimen becomes instantly responsive to emissive wave energy source exposure to stimulate reproducible fluorescent light emission from all of said dye responsive cells. The quantum of said fluorescent light energy emitted provides individual sets of data response relative to hue, value, chroma and intensity to permit differentiation, identification and enumeration of all of said dye responsive components in said blood specimen. By use of a bi-modal wave energy system involving additional use of white light wave energy absorbance, independent sets of data can provide both confirmatory and ancillary information.
Abstract: A fixative composition for histological, cytological, immunological and proteinaceous preparations comprising a mixture of pyrrolid-2-one, a polyol, a urea and a zinc salt of a non-oxidizing organic or inorganic acid. Also disclosed are devices utilizing such compositions.
Abstract: An improved process for producing a thermostable alpha-amylase enzyme is described. The gene coding for the alpha-amylase is incorporated into a chimeric plasmid which is produced in multiple copies by a host microorganism.
Abstract: The invention relates to an extremely thermophilic bacterium, Thermus T-351, and a thermophilic protease, Caldolysin, derived therefrom. The bacterium cells are Gram negative, non-sporulating rods. Its natural environment is a hot pool at 79.degree..+-.4.degree. C. The protease is stable at temperatures up to 75.degree. C. at a pH range of 4 to 12. It is most active at temperatures of 65.degree. C. to 85.degree. C. but retains at least some activity at lower temperatures.

Abstract: A process for the detection and for the determination of immunocomplexes in liquids is described. It is based on determining the rate at which the immunoglobulin or the antigen present in the complex reacts with an appropriate immuno-partner, and relating this rate to the rate at which this immunoglobulin or antigen reacts with the corresponding immuno-partner in an immunocomplex-free liquid.
Abstract: Genetically engineered microorganisms are provided which contain recombinant DNA with an amylase coding gene. Improved yields of amylase enzymes are obtained by cultivating these microorganisms.
