Patent number: 7871399Abstract: A disposable injection device has a dispensing chamber housing, a plunger, a needle, and a temperature control device. The dispensing chamber housing has an inner surface and an outer surface. The inner surface partially defines a dispensing chamber for receiving a quantity of a substance. The plunger is engaged with the inner surface of the dispensing chamber housing, is capable of sliding in the dispensing chamber housing, and is fluidly sealed to the inner surface of the dispensing chamber housing. The plunger has a plunger interface. The needle is fluidly coupled to the dispensing chamber. The temperature control device at least partially surrounds the dispensing chamber housing and alters a temperature of the substance in the dispensing chamber. The substance is injected after the temperature of the substance is altered.Type: GrantFiled: August 1, 2007Date of Patent: January 18, 2011Assignee: Alcon Research, Ltd.Inventors: Bruno Dacquay, Cesario Dos Santos, James Foster, Robert Sanchez

Patent number: 6770038Abstract: The present invention relates to a stiffening member, which is a stylet, that helps increase the fluid flow area within a catheter. In a preferred embodiment, the stylet is made of a single piece of flat rectangular stock that can be twisted to provide equal rigidity in all directions. A cross-section of the stylet reveals that the substantially flat rectangular shape of the stylet permits maximum fluid flow between the stylet and the catheter. This results in increased ease in manipulating and removing the stylet from the catheter. In addition, because the preferred embodiment of the stylet comprises a single element, it is easier to manufacture and should result in lower manufacturing costs. Moreover, the use of the present invention should also result in lower overall health-care costs.Type: GrantFiled: February 1, 2000Date of Patent: August 3, 2004Assignee: Johnson & JohnsonInventors: Daniel J. Patent number: 6723073Abstract: A hemostasis valve for use in introducing an over-the-wire medical lead into a patient's vascular system comprises a housing with a passageway, the passageway including an elastomeric pierceable seal member interposed therein and a resilient, annular tip surrounding a distal end of the housing where the tip has a central opening that is sized to receive a tubular connector terminal at the proximal end of the medical lead for dripping the end of the lead and sealing the lead's tubular connector terminal in the passageway of the housing.Type: GrantFiled: September 6, 2002Date of Patent: April 20, 2004Assignee: Cardiac Pacemakers, Inc.Inventors: Gregory R. Patent number: 6480567Abstract: The invention is directed toward an X-ray treatment kit to be used in an X-ray treatment apparatus. The X-ray treatment kit includes at least one of an improved biocompatible sheath or an improved probe, wherein an airflow path is maintained between the sheath and probe to allow air present within a void region of the sheath to escape as the probe is inserted therein. In various embodiments, the sheath includes a securing assembly which removably secures the sheath to the probe and provides an airflow path, e.g. an internally disposed annular ring with air shunts. Such a sheath may be used with a typical smooth probe to form an X-ray treatment kit. In other embodiments, an improved probe includes an air channel formed substantially along its length. In such a case, the improved probe may be used with a typical sheath, i.e., a sheath having a solid annular ring at its open end, to form an X-ray treatment kit.Type: GrantFiled: February 9, 2001Date of Patent: November 12, 2002Assignee: Photoelectron CorporationInventors: Francis M. Patent number: 6468248Abstract: Apparatus and method for catheterized delivery or infusion of medication and anaesthesia are disclosed. The perforating catheter is first used to perforate the periodontal ligament and/or the cortical plate of bone tissue, and is then left in place and used as a catheter for insertion of a hypodermic needle of smaller gauge to deliver medication or anaesthesia to a target area. The perforator is a bevelled needle for drilling into the ligament or bone tissue. For drilling, the device comprises an adaptor which transmits the rotational movement from a dental hand piece to the bevelled needle. A cap is also included for protecting the bevelled needle during storage of the device. The adaptor may have a rod which extends axially into the bevelled needle when the device is assembled for drilling. The rod is used to prevent the debris resulting from drilling from blocking the passage in the bevelled needle.Type: GrantFiled: October 18, 1999Date of Patent: October 22, 2002Inventor: David Gibbs

Patent number: 6423032Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for removing emboli during an angioplasty, stenting or surgical procedure comprising a catheter having an occlusion element, an aspiration lumen, and a blood outlet port in communication with the lumen, a guide wire having a balloon, a venous return catheter with a blood inlet port, and tubing that couples the blood outlet port to the blood inlet port. Apparatus is also provided for occluding the external carotid artery to prevent reversal of flow into the internal carotid artery. The pressure differential between the artery and the vein provides reverse flow through the artery, thereby flushing emboli. A blood filter may optionally be included in-line with the tubing to filter emboli from blood reperfused into the patient.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 1999Date of Patent: July 23, 2002Assignee: Arteria Medical Science, Inc.Inventor: Juan Carlos Parodi
