Patent number: 6247704Abstract: A composite gasket includes a central core located between non-metallic outer facing layers. Each non-metallic outer facing layer has an outer core adjacent the central core. The outer cores can be either perforated or non-perforated. A bead is provided on the central core to produce a resilient biasing force that urges the outer facing layers into contact with respective mating surfaces to improve gasket sealing. The central core optionally has an elastomeric coating to improve sealing between the central core and the outer cores to prevent leakage between gasket layers.Type: GrantFiled: July 30, 1998Date of Patent: June 19, 2001Assignee: Dana CorporationInventor: Daniel C. Patent number: 6244600Abstract: The present invention relates to a leaktight seal with a lip capable of gripping a shaft end and being fitted behind a cap. When the cap is in place covering the shaft end and closing the housing, it presses on a stop flange of seal and pushes the lip outwards so that the rotation of the shaft end causes no wear on the seal. When the cap is removed, the housing remains open but the lip grips the shaft end and restores the leaktight seal. This fitting is of particular use for shaft ends fitted with a key slot used for manually rotating a rotating machine during the inspection phase of servicing, the shaft end being driven during normal use of the machine.Type: GrantFiled: August 4, 1998Date of Patent: June 12, 2001Assignee: Societe Hispano SuizaInventor: Michel Marie Maurice Leturcq

Patent number: 6231052Abstract: A flange protector for protecting opposing flanges of a pipe joint from corrosion and leakage. The flange protector is comprised of a transparent, flexible, elastomeric band for wrapping around the periphery of the opposing pipe flanges of the pipe joint. The band has metal straps that support a fastener for pulling the ends of the band together tightly around the pipe flanges and lubrication inserts for injecting a lubricant through the transparent band to the surfaces of the flanges. The transparent band is sufficiently clear so as to allow visualization of the amount of the lubricant present at the flanged pipe joint and the presence of any corrosion of the flange surfaces without the removal of the flange protector from the flanged pipe joint.Type: GrantFiled: October 26, 1999Date of Patent: May 15, 2001Inventor: W. Patent number: 6224063Abstract: Two axially spaced seal rings are located within annular grooves of a retainer to provide a seal for use between a cylindrical shaft and a housing bore. The resulting seal pack can be positioned at a lubricant passage such that lubricant may pass between the housing and the shaft but not longitudinally along the shaft. The annular retainer is dimensioned for an interference fit with either the housing bore or the shaft, and includes at least one opening located between the annular grooves such that lubricant may pass therethrough. An intermediate portion of the annular retainer provides a lubricant channel such that lubricant can flow circumferentially, avoiding the need to orient the opening in the annular retainer.Type: GrantFiled: September 1, 1998Date of Patent: May 1, 2001Assignee: The Torrington CompanyInventor: Ian J.
