Patent number: 8968379Abstract: In one aspect, a stent delivery system includes a catheter having two or more pullwire lumens evenly spaced about the central axis of the catheter and thereby balanced within the catheter. Pullwires are positioned in the pullwire lumens. Proximal portions of the pullwires are attached to a connector, which is attached to a master pullwire. The connector has a given range of motion that allows the pullwires to move within the pullwire lumens, thereby ensuring full flexibility of the catheter. The pullwires assume different lengths. A pullwire positioned over the outer curve of a flexed catheter may be longer than a pullwire positioned within the inner curve of the catheter, preventing the catheter from being straightened or displaced by the action of retracting the pullwires. The catheter may serve as either an inner member on which a stent is mounted or a sheath enclosing a stent.Type: GrantFiled: September 2, 2005Date of Patent: March 3, 2015Assignee: Medtronic Vascular, Inc.Inventor: Jack Pryor

Patent number: 8968331Abstract: Leads for chronic implantation in the brain or other anatomical targets utilize tubular stylet means which are external to the lead. The lead comprises a distal electrode terminal, a proximal connector terminal, and a conductor cable having a reinforced distal portion and a stepped outside diameter providing a shoulder which cooperates with the distal end of the external stylet means. The substantial stiffness of the external stylet allows implantation of the lead without a brain-entering cannula. A tubular stylet spacer is employed to minimize lead dislodgement due to disassembly and removal of the lead introduction tools. Externalized stylet allows the conductor cable to have a small outside diameter and a desirably short length. A method of terminating conductors to electrodes using inserts is suitable for very fine wires and stranded conductors. A reinforced electrode terminal construction enables robust small-dimensioned terminal and high localization accuracy when introduced with external stylet means.Type: GrantFiled: April 24, 2010Date of Patent: March 3, 2015Inventor: Jerzy Roman Sochor

Patent number: 8961581Abstract: A drainage stent delivery system including an elongate shaft of a medical device, a drainage catheter or stent, and an engagement member, such as a distensible member or a compressible member, for selectively coupling the stent to the elongate shaft. The engagement member is positioned between the inner surface of the stent and the outer surface of the elongate shaft and is elongatable from a first length to a second length by longitudinal movement generally parallel to the central longitudinal axis of the stent to release the stent. At the first length, the engagement member is engaged with the inner surface of the stent to secure the stent on the elongate shaft, and at the second length the engagement member is sufficiently disengaged from the inner surface of the stent to release the stent from the elongate shaft such that the elongate shaft may be withdrawn from the stent.Type: GrantFiled: May 23, 2011Date of Patent: February 24, 2015Assignee: Boston Scientific Scimed, Inc.Inventors: Andrew K. Patent number: 8961423Abstract: Ultrasound catheter devices and methods of the present invention generally provide for ablation and/or disruption of vascular occlusions. An ultrasound transmission member, such as a wire, transmits vibrational energy from an ultrasound transducer to a distal head of the catheter to disrupt vascular occlusions. An absorber member is disposed on or around the ultrasound transmission wire at a location adjacent the sonic connector of the catheter. The absorber member absorbs heat, vibrations, and/or the like from the ultrasound transmission wire at or near the area where the transmission wire is coupled with the sonic connector. The absorptive function typically slows the process of wear and tear on the transmission wire, thus extending the useful life of the ultrasound catheter.Type: GrantFiled: October 1, 2009Date of Patent: February 24, 2015Assignee: Flowcardia, Inc.Inventors: Henry Nita, Jeff Sarge, Simon Nguyen

Patent number: 8956382Abstract: A collapsible medical device for use, e.g., as a vascular filter. The device includes a mandrel having a distal end and a stop spaced proximally of the distal end. A proximal length of the mandrel extends proximally of the stop and a distal length of the mandrel extends distally of the stop. A functional element (e.g., a vascular filter) has a radially expandable body and includes a proximal slider and a distal slider. The proximal and distal sliders are slidable along the mandrel independently of one another such that the distance between the proximal slider and distal slider can be varied to effect different configurations of the functional element. In one method of using such a device, the functional element is urged distally to a treatment site by urging the mandrel distally.Type: GrantFiled: January 25, 2008Date of Patent: February 17, 2015Assignee: Covidien LPInventor: Richard S. Patent number: 8945167Abstract: Systems for controlling obesity utilize a number of space occupiers positioned in the stomach to reduce the effective volume of the stomach. Such arrangements provides sufficient stomach volume consumption to induce weight loss, but enable use of space occupiers that are proportioned to minimize the threat of obstruction even if they should migrate into the intestine. In general, numerous small volume space occupiers are placed in the stomach such that the total volume equals or exceeds the single volume of prior art single unit space occupiers. However, each individual space occupier is proportioned so that it will pass without obstruction if it moves into the intestine.Type: GrantFiled: September 1, 2011Date of Patent: February 3, 2015Assignee: Boston Scientific Scimed, Inc.Inventors: David Cole, Samuel T.
