Patent number: 5690777Abstract: An improved method is disclosed for the fusing, joining or seaming of cellulosic materials. The method utilizes a hydroxide solution of selected organometallic compounds or metal oxides to rapidly crosslink opposing, overlapping cellulosic surfaces to provide secure seams. In particular, the invention is directed to the production, either on-line or off-line, of tubular cellulosic casings for the manufacture of sausages and sausage-like products. The seams according to this invention have such high shear strength that extremely narrow bond widths are possible. The narrowness of the bond site eliminates or minimizes striping or discoloration of the finished product.Type: GrantFiled: March 3, 1995Date of Patent: November 25, 1997Assignee: Kraft Foods, Inc.Inventors: David F. Patent number: 5686174Abstract: A joint-sealing strip is made of soft foam material, with an impregnation leading to delayed recovery. In order to obtain a simple structure combined with an advantageous design especially with respect to technical handling, the impregnation varies over the width of the joint-sealing strip, namely in a marginal longitudinal area. A strengthened impregnation is made preferably extending over the total thickness in the marginal longitudinal area, in such a manner that upon release of the recovery, a profile rising toward a longitudinal center line of the joint-sealing strip is obtained.Type: GrantFiled: September 11, 1995Date of Patent: November 11, 1997Assignee: Illbruck GmbHInventor: Fritz Irrgeher

Patent number: 5685757Abstract: A novel fibrous non-woven composite is provided that comprises as a first component substantially continuous coarse spun-bonded filaments of a thermoplastic polymer which exhibit molecular orientation, and as a second component fine discontinuous melt-blown microfibers of a thermoplastic polymer. The fibrous components are well admixed through their placement following their formation on the same equipment to form an integrated non-woven deposition in the absence of a discrete phase boundary between substantially homogeneous concentrations of the components, and are subsequently thermally bonded to form a unitary structure. The continuous coarse spun-bonded filaments provide good strength for a supporting function throughout the non-woven composite, and the fine discontinuous melt-blown microfibers perform an uninterrupted filtration and/or moisture transport function throughout the non-woven composite. The resulting product is useful in diaper, medical, and clothing applications.Type: GrantFiled: August 25, 1993Date of Patent: November 11, 1997Assignee: Corovin GmbHInventors: Andreas Kirsch, Gerhard Knitsch, Heinz-H.
