  • Patent number: 10187803
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for controlling ON/OFF operation of a Secondary Cell (SCell) in a cellular communications network. In some embodiments, the SCell is a License Assisted Access (LAA) SCell that operates in an unlicensed frequency band. In some embodiments, a method of operation of a network node in the cellular communications network to dynamically control ON/OFF operation of a SCell of the cellular communications network comprises measuring activity of other wireless systems on a channel utilized by a SCell while the SCell is in an OFF state, determining whether to transition the SCell to an ON state based on the activity of the other wireless systems measured on the channel, turning the SCell ON upon determining that the SCell is to be transitioned to the ON state, and keeping the SCell in the OFF state upon determining that the SCell is not to be transitioned to the ON state.

  • Patent number: 10158972
Abstract: A method in a location service client node includes maintaining a database containing a listing of beacon radio node identifiers with their geographic locations. A received location request contains an identifier for a UE and an identifier for a beacon radio node. A geographic location of the UE is determined from the database using the geographic location of the identifier for the beacon radio nodes. A message is sent to a public safety system containing the identifier for the UE and the geographic location. Subsequent to sending the message to the public safety system, a received movement notification message contains the identifier for the beacon radio node and data indicating that the beacon radio node has been moved. Data in the database is set to prevent the geographic location of the beacon radio node from being subsequently used to determine the geographic location of a UE.

  • Patent number: 10142268
Abstract: Messages containing structured entities may be sent between devices in a way that leverages the existing Short Message Service (SMS) protocol. On the message sender's device, the sender may author a message indicating specific entities such as people, places, dates, or times. When the message is to be sent, an SMS representation of the message is sent to the recipient, and a full representation of the message, including the included entities, is sent to a server. If the SMS message is received at a device that is equipped with software that can retrieve and render the rich representation, then the device queries the server to determine whether there is a rich message that corresponds to the SMS message. If such a message exists, then the message is communicated to the recipient's device and is rendered in place of the SMS message.

  • Patent number: 10123226
Abstract: In order to dynamically allocate spectrum resources to broadcast and unicast operations, user equipment (UE) sends a start message to a broadcast multicast tracking application in response to the UE deciding to start receiving a content stream. The start message includes cell site information where the user equipment is located and a channel identification indicating the content stream. The tracking application tracks the number of active listeners to the content stream in the cell and based on the number of active listeners and cell utilization, determines whether to initiate a broadcast. If the broadcast is initiated, the tracking application sends a message to the UE to retune to a broadcast channel. The UE sends a stop message when the UE decides to stop receiving the content stream and the tracking application and determines whether to terminate the broadcast based on the remaining active listeners and the cell utilization.

  • Patent number: 10117093
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to methods and an identity mediator node for controlling a user equipment, UE, identity, ID, dependent service in a radio base station, RBS of a wireless network. The method comprises receiving (S1) from a Mobility Management Entity, MME, a UE ID report comprising a permanent UE ID, a temporary UE ID, and a serving RBS identity for an RBS serving the UE, wherein the temporary UE ID represents an identifier for the UE in the serving RBS. The identity mediator node stores (S2) a record associating the temporary UE ID, the serving RBS identity, and the permanent UE ID record. When an order to activate a UE ID dependent service for a permanent UE ID is detected (D1) in the identity mediator node, the identity mediator node retrieves (S4) the temporary UE ID and serving RBS identity from the stored record. A request is sent (S5) to the serving RBS to activate the UE ID dependent service for the UE, wherein the request includes the temporary UE ID.

  • Patent number: 10111032
Abstract: A tracking device can securely communicate with a secondary device. The secondary device can provide locations associated with the tracking device to a tracking system. When the secondary device determines that the tracking device is lost (for instance, in response to no longer receiving communications from the tracking device), the secondary device can provide additional locations associated with the secondary device to the tracking system. The tracking system can store locations received before and after the tracking device was lost, and can provide these locations to the user for display within a map interface, enabling a user to digitally retrace the user's steps in order to aid the user in locating the lost tracking device.

  • Patent number: 10097994
Abstract: Techniques for resetting authentication for touch-enabled devices are presented. When a user authenticates to a mobile device a touch profile (TP) is recorded. Each subsequent time the user unlocks a locked mobile device via touch, a new TP is noted. The new TP is compared to the recorded TP and if the deviation is within an acceptable tolerance, the user is permitted access to the mobile device without re-authentication. When the new TP is not within the acceptable tolerance of the recorded TP, the user is forced to re-authenticate before access is granted to the mobile device.

  • Patent number: 10080103
Abstract: Techniques of range free proximity determination are described. A mobile device can determine an entry into or exit from a proximity fence upon determining that the mobile device is sufficiently close to a signal source. The proximity fence can be a virtual fence defined by the signal source and associated with a service. The mobile device can detect signals from multiple signal sources. The mobile device can determine that, among the signal sources, one or more signal sources are located closest to the mobile device based on a ranking of the signal sources using signal strength. The mobile device can determine a probability indicating a confident level of the ranking. The mobile device can determine that the mobile device entered or exited a proximity fence associated with a highest ranked signal source satisfying a confidence threshold.
