  • Patent number: 6679115
Abstract: An apparatus for determining the filling level of a product in a container with a transmission unit which generates high-frequency signals and emits them at a predetermined pulse repetition frequency in the direction of the surface of the filled product. The signals are reflected by the surface of the filled product and are received by a receiving unit. A delay circuit transforms the high-frequency signals/reflected signals into low-frequency signals in accordance with a predetermined translation factor and with an evaluation unit which determines the filling level of the product in the container on the basis of the delay time of the signals. The delay circuit includes: a transmission oscillator; a sampling oscillator; a digital sampling circuit; and a closed-loop/open-loop control unit.

  • Patent number: 6301947
Abstract: A fluid level indicator that compensates for fluid temperature is provided. The indicator includes an elongated shaft that is received by the fill tube of the apparatus. The shaft is adapted to contact the fluid at one end to measure the level of fluid in the apparatus. A reversible liquid crystal display is carried by the shaft and includes a plurality of bands. Each band has a defined height and is capable of being illuminated when the oil is within a certain temperature spectrum. When the band is at a temperature within its spectrum, the band illuminates, or somehow differentiates itself from those bands that are not within their illumination spectrum. At a specific temperature, certain bands, adjacent to one another, are illuminated to create a vertical range on the dipstick. The desired level of fluid in the apparatus is defined by the vertical range created by the illuminated bands of the liquid crystal display.

  • Patent number: 6282953
Abstract: A pair of solid state pressure sensors are disposed near the bottom of a fuel tank vertically spaced with one a unit distance above the other. A third solid state sensor is disposed in the tank at the highest point under the upper wall. The apparent hydrostatic pressure is computed from the difference in pressure sensed by the highest and lowest sensors. The density is computed from the difference in pressure sensed by the pair of sensors near the tank bottom; and, the difference normalized for the vertical distance therebetween. The liquid level height is then computed from computed density and apparent pressure. The reserve volume of liquid fuel is then found for the computed height from a lookup table of values of liquid height and corresponding liquid volume.

  • Patent number: 6263746
Abstract: The present invention provides a slot assembly test apparatus for testing a slot assembly having an ejection mechanism by means of a card. The slot assembly test apparatus comprises: a platform; a slot assembly fixture disposed on the platform for positioning the slot assembly in which the card has been inserted; a pushing device; and a touching device. The pushing device is disposed on the platform and capable of moving between a first position, at which the card is pushed by the first pushing device to a predetermined position, and a second position, at which the first pushing device is drawn away from the card. The touching device disposed on the platform is capable of touching the ejection mechanism of the slot assembly so as to eject the card from the slot assembly.

  • Patent number: 6260414
Abstract: A cholesteric liquid crystal fluid level indicator that determines the level of a cooled liquid, such as beer, in a closed, opaque keg when placed in thermal contact with the exterior surface of the keg, by producing a color change that is a function of the liquid temperature when the liquid is within a predetermined temperature range, the indicator comprises a multiple level strip having a top transparent layer, liquid crystal layer, a black background layer and an attachment layer employing a protected adhesive on its bottom surface for removably attaching the strip to the keg, the instant invention employs a heat conducting adhesive on the attachment layer and for securing certain layers in the strip, such as the liquid crystal layer.

  • Patent number: 6253607
Abstract: A fill level measuring system for the liquid content of a tank, with a fill level sensor (10, 50) for generating a signal proportional to the height of a point of the liquid level, an additional volume flow sensor (14, 52, 56) for generating a signal proportional to the inflow or outflow, and an indicating instrument (28). To compensate for systematic errors with high-frequency portions, for example due to air turbulence in the case of an airplane, and low-frequency portions, for example due to position changes (climb/descent; upward run/downward run for a motor vehicle) it is proposed to direct the signal of the fill level sensor (10) through a low-pass filter (12) and the signal of the volume flow sensor (14) through a high-pass filter (18), and to sum up both signals before the indicating instrument (28).

  • Patent number: 6247356
Abstract: A hardness tester having a frame and a rotatable turret movably supported on the frame is provided. A plurality of load cells are fixedly mountable on the turret, and a plurality of indenters are fixedly attachable to the load cells, respectively. A user interface selectively provides signals to a motor to move the turret into contact with a test specimen via one of the indenters to thereby apply a load on the test specimen. The indenters are fixed with respect to the turret and do not move in relation to the turret when the turret is brought down to bear on the test specimen. The load cells measure the load applied to the test specimen. A closed loop control system receives load measurement signals from the load cells and controls movement of the turret, preventing the motor from applying load in excess of a predetermined selectable load amount input by a user via the user interface. The invention preferably includes a plurality of indenter adapters, each attached to respective undersides of the load cells.

  • Patent number: 6230552
Abstract: When the unevenness quantities of the surface of a surface-treated, existing concrete are measured at a given pitch by a measuring device 10, the measured unevenness quantities are automatically collected by a CPU 21 to calculate the characteristic quantities of the surface-treated form of the existing concrete. The CPU 21 compares the calculated characteristic quantities with characteristic quantities beforehand stored in a data ROM 23 to give an evaluated result of the surface-treated form automatically. The evaluated result is displayed on a display device 40 or printed by a printer 50, so that the result can be immediately checked. An ideal surface-treated form is a surface-treated form in which the average height of unevenness of the surface of the existing concrete is from 13 to 35% of the maximum particle size of aggregates contained in the existing concrete, and the slope length ratio thereof is 1.

  • Patent number: 6230561
Abstract: A float for a level sensor has a center through hole and a position limiting hole formed in an upper portion of the center through hole and having a larger diameter than the center through hole, and an annular hollow space opening downward. An inner annular groove is formed in a wall defined between the center through hole and the annular hollow space, and an outer annular groove is formed in an outer wall defining the annular hollow space for disposing a magnet ring, an inner gasket and an outer gasket for facilitating closing an annular cap on the two gaskets. An oval base with a magnet ring is fixed in the position limiting hole. Then this float may be combined with various types of level sensors without any extra processes or modifications.

  • Patent number: 6220077
Abstract: The invention concerns an apparatus for controlling the level of a fluid in a tank. Apparatus in which the rotatory effect that can be produced by certain substances on a polarized radiation is used for level detecting in the tanks which contain them. A beam of incident rays derived from the source, s passes successively through (horizontal arrow) the two polarizers p1 and p2 separated by the space S. The signal received in the receiver, r at the output of the second polarizer P2 indicates the presence of the fluid F in the space, S and the level to be controlled in the tank R. The invention is particularly applicable for controlling the level of fuel in the tanks of all kinds of vehicles, in particular aeroplanes.
