Abstract: An electrically conductive hinge includes an electrically conductive first plate with a plurality of knuckles having openings. An electrically conductive second plate of the hinge also includes a plurality of knuckles having openings. The pluralities of knuckles are alternatively interlaced, and a hinge pin is inserted into the openings. One or more electrically conductive tabs are provided on the first hinge plate and frictionally engaged against one or more of the knuckles of the second hinge plate. Also, one or more electrically conductive tabs may be provided on the second hinge plate and frictionally engaged against one or more of the knuckles of the first hinge plate. The conductive tabs are resilient and provide good electrical conductivity between the first hinge plate and the second hinge plate. The hinge is particularly advantageous in grounding an electrically conductive cover to an electrical conductive housing.

  • Patent number: 6074225
Abstract: An electrical connector includes an insulative housing having a shielding shell made of a conductive material fitted thereto. The housing has two groups of pins separated by a central slot defined therebetween with a conductive plate received therein. The conductive plate is in electrical connection with the shielding shell. The conductive plate has two resilient fingers formed on a front edge thereof and thus engageable with a counterpart conductive plate of a mating connector. The resiliency of the fingers provides a positive engagement between the two conductive plates thereby establishing a sound electrical connection therebetween. This allows electrostatic charges on the conductive plates to be effectively removed through the shielding shell.

  • Patent number: 6068524
Abstract: A reversed terminal insertion preventing structure is provided. This structure can detect reversed insertion of a terminal inserted into a connector housing upside down, and also prevent deformation of the terminal. The terminal has two protrusions for preventing reversed insertion. Two guide grooves corresponding to the two protrusions are formed on the inner walls of the terminal receiving chamber of the connector housing. When the protrusions simultaneously come into contact with the end walls of the respective guide grooves, the insertion of the terminal is stopped halfway into the connector housing. On the opposite side from the guide grooves formed on two inner walls perpendicular to each other, two escape grooves for the protrusions are formed for normal insertion.

  • Patent number: 6059617
Abstract: A protective member (28) having a melting point lower than a cover (12) is provided on a distal end of a protrusion (22) of the cover (12). A terminal (13) and a covered electric wire (19) are housed in a groove portion (18) of a connector housing (11), and the protrusion (22) of the cover (12) is inserted into the groove portion (18), and thereafter, an ultrasonic vibration is applied to the covered electric wire (19) and the terminal (13) from the cover (12). A covering portion (27) of the covered electric wire (19) is melted and removed by the ultrasonic vibration. The protective member (28) absorbs a heat generated in the cover (12) by applying the ultrasonic vibration, and is preferentially melted. Therefore, the protrusion (22) is not deformed due to the heat, so that a contact area of a core wire (26) and the terminal (13) can be secured.
