  • Patent number: 4467778
Abstract: The invention provides a stove for burning a charge of fuel by primary air directed either above or underneath through the firebed. A firebed support is defined by an array of alternating fixed and movable bars, the movable bars having a length greater than their width when viewed endwise and being rotatable between a vertical attitude in which they permit upward passage of air and downward passage of ash through said support and a horizontal attitude in which they permit build up of a layer of ash at the base of the firebed. An air distribution chamber has an inlet for primary air, a first outlet from which primary air passes to a space above the firebed and a second outlet from which primary air passes to a space below the firebed. An air diversion flap is movable between positions in which air is selectively directed through the first and through the second outlet.

  • Patent number: 4465459
Abstract: A burner is disclosed for alternatively burning coal dust or oil. An annular housing includes a blower at one end thereof for directing a rotating air stream through the housing. A chamber located downstream from the blower has a plurality of outlet pipes extending downstream therefrom in an annular configuration about an atomizing nozzle and an eddy plate. An adjustable burner head is mounted on the end of each of the outlet pipes, the burner heads being arranged for optimum mixture of coal dust and air, fed from the chamber through the outlet pipes to the burner heads, with the rotating air stream passing about and through a hole in the eddy plate to insure optimum combustion. An oil ignition auxiliary burner having a nozzle between the eddy plate and the outlet end of the chamber serves to ignite the coal dust and air mixture. An atomizing nozzle for feeding atomized oil into the burner is provided as an alternative fuel source.

  • Patent number: 4458663
Abstract: A warming apparatus uses a gas burner which comprises a burner body and a plurality of tubular flame nozzles projecting radially from the burner body. The tubular nozzles have an internal diametr which ranges from about 1 mm to about 4 mm, and the projecting length of the tubular nozzles which extends from the burner body is within a range of from about 10 mm to about 40 mm. The nozzles have axially directed nozzle openings. The warming apparatus comprises the gas burner in combination with first and second radiators and a heat interception plate positioned between the burner body and the radiators.

  • Patent number: 4450499
Abstract: A flare ignition system for oil well flaring of combustible gases which includes a central control unit, low voltage interconnect line and plural remote igniter units which include alternate first and second spark gaps coordinated in fail-safe operation. Coordination is carried out by pulse counting and validating circuitry which assures that one of the spark gaps will always be ignitable or alarm condition will exist.

  • Patent number: 4448226
Abstract: A disposable gas lighter is formed with a liquid-fuel reservoir having a well molded into the housing at an upper portion thereof and provided with a plug member having a plurality of positions including a first position in which a passage is provided into the reservoir, a second position in which the well and the flow can be completely closed off and a third position in which the member is completely clear of the well to enable the well to serve to accommodate a valve system and a flow control device for the lighter. The axially displaceable member, having the aforementioned three positions, may be molded as part of the lighter housing and the well and can be broken loose when it is necessary to fill the reservoir.

  • Patent number: 4441879
Abstract: An oil burner for installation in heating or steam-raising boilers. The ber has downstream of an oil atomization device a plate having a single opening or a plurality of openings arranged in a ring coaxially of the oil atomising device, the plate opening or openings being the only throughway for combustion air. A mixing tube is arranged coaxially at a distance downstream of the plate. The mixing tube has a diameter greater than the diameter of the single opening or of a circle which encloses the plurality of openings in the plate. A flame tube positioned coaxially around the mixing tube has a length such that the flow of combustion gases downstream of the mixing tube is applied against the internal wall of the flame tube. To enable the burner alternatively to be used for burning gaseous fuel at will, an annular chamber for the supply of a gaseous fuel and having gas outlet openings in the region of the plate opening or openings is also provided downstream of and close to the plate.

  • Patent number: 4417870
Abstract: A liquid fuel combustion apparatus comprises a combustion cylinder for supporting a wick to be vertically movable between a combustion position and an extinguished position, a rotating shaft connected to said wick for raising and lowering said wick, a driving motor, rotational force transmitting mechanism for rotating the shaft in one direction to thereby raise the wick to the combustion position, the rotational force transmitting mechanism being automatically disengaged from said rotating shaft when the wick arrives at the combustion position, a spring charged with the rotational force in the other direction of the rotating shaft as a result of the rotation of the rotating shaft in the one direction, holding mechanism for preventing the rotation of the rotating shaft in the other direction by the spring so as to hold the wick in the combustion position, and releasing mechanism for releasing the holding operation of said holding mechanism.

  • Patent number: 4416612
Abstract: A cigarette lighter including an ignition system of which a striking member support wheel (14) is pivotally supported (17, 18) by a lighter body (10) for pivotal movement in conjunction with the opening and closing movement of a cover (23), to enable the ignition system to be enclosed by the cover when the latter is closed. The lighter further includes a nozzle (11) urged at all times to move upwardly to allow gas to issue therethrough, and a regulating member (20, 21, 25, 26, 27, 29, 31) for the cover operative to move the nozzle downwardly by its underside, so that the nozzle can be automatically moved upwardly to allow gas to issue therethrough when the cover is opened and can be automatically moved downwardly to stop the issuing gas when the cover is closed.
