  • Patent number: 5160056
Abstract: A safety device for a crane which can make a safety operation precisely taking a relationship between a swinging condition of a boom and a limit working region into consideration. In the device, a working radius and a swinging angle of the boom and projection amounts of projectable support members of the crane are detected, and a limit working region of the boom is set in accordance with a weight of a suspended cargo and the projection amounts. A remaining angle over which the boom can be swung until the set limit working region is exceeded is calculated, and also a braking angular acceleration at which swinging movement of the boom is braked and stopped without leaving a shake of the suspended cargo is calculated. Further, a swinging angle of the boom required to brake and stop the swinging movement of the boom at the braking angular acceleration is calculated, and the thus calculated required angle and the remaining angle are compared with each other.

  • Patent number: 5135118
Abstract: A crane having a boom and a jib swingable on the boom between a taken in position and a stretched out position includes a jib holding construction. A jib hold rod is movably mounted on the jib between a first position in which a base end of the jib hold rod is connected to the jib when the jib is in the taken in position, and a second position in which the base end of the jib hold rod is connected to a portion of the boom for supporting the jib in the stretched out position. A rod holding link is mounted to the jib for selectively holding the base end of the jib hold rod at a correct position for connection to the boom when the jib is swung out to the stretched out position. This avoids the need to manually locate the jib hold rod in the second position when the jib is stretched out.

  • Patent number: 5131512
Abstract: In a hydraulic telescopic damper with a cylinder (10) and a piston (12) which has a check valve (O-ring 18) and a narrow opening (22), a valve member (30) is mounted on the side of piston (12) away from the pressure side. Valve member (30) is urged by the force of a spring (36) in a locking position of piston (12) and keeps opening (22) closed. The telescopic damper thereby locks automatically. Exerting an additional manual force on the piston rod can release the self-locking action once more.

  • Patent number: 5129344
Abstract: An actuating mechanism is provided for controlling external devices by means of coaxial actuating cables or other suitable linkages. The actuator includes an internal slide element movable to selected detent positions by means of a lever arm which pushes against the slide when raised. The slide is returned to its starting position by depressing the lever arm. Indicator openings are provided in the body of the actuator permitting visual inspection of the position of the slide to indicate the control setting selected. Use of the actuator to control and position retractable fins or skegs on a water board is also disclosed. The actuator is positioned on the upper surface of the water board just forward of and between the rider's knees and coaxial actuating cables link the actuator to retractable fins on the underside of the board. The actuator can be easily manipulated with one hand to retract or extend the fins quickly. The indicator feature indicates the fin setting selected.
