Abstract: Articles are manufactured using self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS) reactions. Particulates including reactants can be blended to form a particulate blend. The particulate blend can be preformed. The preform article can be heated to a pre-heat temperature being below an auto-activation temperature and above a minimum compression activated synthesis temperature. Compressive stress can be exerted on the preform article at the pre-heat temperature to initiate the SHS reaction between the reactants and thereby form a product metallic compound. At approximately peak temperature, a flow stress of the product metallic compound can be exceeded to substantially reduce porosity and thereby form a shaped substantially dense article.
Abstract: The present disclosure discloses a high-strength and high-thermal conductivity new material composite brake drum and a preparation method thereof. The composite brake drum is composed of an outer layer of high-strength ductile iron and an inner layer of high-thermal conductivity gray cast iron, which are integrated by centrifugal compound casting. The outer layer of the composite brake drum is firstly poured on the production line of iron particle-filled coated sand shells. Due to the fast solidification and cooling of the iron particle-filled coated sand shells, the castings have the characteristics of fine and dense organization structures to ensure the high strength and high toughness of the ductile iron of the outer layer. On this basis, the inner gray cast iron is poured under centrifugal casting conditions, in which a good metallurgical bond between the inner and outer layers is achieved by controlling the centrifugal casting process.
Abstract: The present invention is related to a method for centering a pouring tube in a pouring tube assembly using a multi-piece centering sleeve by inserting a pouring tube into a holding casting aperture in a holding casting; pouring grout to fill a portion of a gap between the pouring tube and the holding casting; slipping the centering sleeve over the outside of the pouring tube until it is press fit in a portion of the gap between the pouring tube and the holding casting; adjusting the centering sleeve to center-position the pouring tube; grouting the remainder of the gap to fill all voids in the gap; installing a parting ring on top of the holding casting; and installing a holding ring around the holding casting and parting ring.
