Abstract: User interface controls that facilitate the specification/modification of data hierarchies. In one set of embodiments, a first UI control component can be provided that comprises an ordered group of drop-down menus. Each drop-down menu in the ordered group can be populated with a selectable list of attributes from a data set and can be associated with a level in a data hierarchy. By selecting values using the various drop-down menus, a user can interactively specify a data hierarchy for the data set. The data set can then be visualized according to the specified hierarchy. In further embodiments, a second UI control component can be provided in addition to the first UI control component. The second UI control component can allow a user to interactively enable or disable certain drop-down menus in the ordered group, thereby acting as a “depth filter” for controlling the depth of the data hierarchy.

Abstract: In general, embodiments of the invention provide an approach to organize a user interface, such as a computer desktop, based on the role or activity of the current user. Specifically, a display area configuration of a user device is defined by selecting resources from a plurality of available resources to include in a display area configuration, building a profile from the selected resources to preserve the display area configuration, and saving the profile. The display area is then built on a user device when the profile is selected from the user device.

Abstract: In accordance with the teachings of the present disclosure, a method of generating a graphical user interface is disclosed. The method includes monitoring a plurality of elements of a computer system and collecting data related to a monitored characteristic of each element of the plurality of elements. The method also includes analyzing the collected data at a first time to identify a pattern and analyzing the collected data at a second time to determine whether the collected data has deviated from the identified pattern. The method further includes generating an alert record in response to a determination that the collected data has deviated from the identified pattern and storing the alert record. Additionally, the method includes generating graphical display information related to the alert record.

Abstract: A method for operating an electronic device is provided. The method includes detecting at least one first touch on a displayed content region, determining an area of a first rectangle formed by the at least one first touch, determining an area of a second rectangle formed by at least one second touch moved from the at least one first touch, comparing the area of the first rectangle with the area of the second rectangle, determining a function of the touch on the content region, and displaying the content region corresponding to the determined function of the touch.

Abstract: A system and method for visual editing of an input signal, including an editing device comprising a device screen, a media module, a user input module, and an output module. The media module receives an input signal which includes at least one visual component. The device screen comprises a source screen and a delay screen, wherein the input signal is displayed on the source screen in real time, and the input signal is displayed on the delay screen in delay time, with the delay time being adjustable. The user input module allows the user to create at least one clip comprising a portion of the input signal as it is displayed on the delay screen. The output module is structured to output the clip.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a user interface system based on a treemap-type presentation includes a processor and a memory. The processor is operative to store data for items which can be invoked, generate data for a user interface screen having regions arranged according to an arrangement, at least some of the regions being different sizes and being arranged according to size order, assign at least some of the items to the regions, receive user selections from an input device, determine which item is being selected for each user selection, refresh an assignment of the items among the regions of the user interface screen so that even though the assignment of the items among the regions is changed as a result of the refreshment, the arrangement and sizes of the regions in the user interface screen remain unchanged. Related apparatus and methods are also described.

Abstract: An entity having a brand page maintained by a social networking system defines a sequence of content items associated with a brand page is determined. Different content items in the sequence include different information that is dependent on interaction between a user and the sequence. For example, content items in the sequence provide increasingly more detailed or complex information when progressing from the first content item to the last content item in the sequence. When a viewing user of a social networking system interacts with the brand page, prior interactions with the sequence by the viewing user are used to classify the viewing user and to select a content item from the sequence that is communicated to the viewing user.

The processor receives input indicating a viewer desire to virtually move the UI up or back along a z-axis that is perpendicular to the video plane and responsive to the input change the location of the UI on the z-axis. This may done by altering image disparity produced to create a 3D effect.

Abstract: A method for generating a cover photo for presenting on a profile page includes receiving a request from a user to generate a cover photo for presenting on a profile page of the user account. A user interface identifying a plurality of slots for inserting the pictures/assets selected by the user, is presented at the profile page in response to the request. User selection of pictures/assets for placement in the plurality of slots at the user interface, is received. The pictures/assets are examined for assembling the selected picture/asset into a mosaic. The examination determines open slots that are available for inserting the pictures/assets and a sequence of insertion of the pictures/assets into each of the open slots in the user interface. A unified cover photo is generated by stitching together the one or more pictures/assets selected by the user based on sequence of insertion obtained through examination.
