  • Patent number: 5689612
Abstract: An image signal processing device generates first image data and second image data based on the same optical image. Each pixel of the second image data is offset from the corresponding pixel of the first image data by half the distance between the centers of two adjacent pixels. The first image data is then subjected to a discrete cosine transformation (DCT), quantization, and Huffman encoding, and is recorded to an IC memory card. High resolution image data is generated based on the first and second image data. Expanded image data is obtained based on the first image data, and supplementary data is generated based on the high resolution image data and the expanded image data. The supplementary data is subjected to DCT, quantization and Huffman encoding, and is recorded to the same IC memory card.

  • Patent number: 5684919
Abstract: An apparatus for recording a video signal while forming a multiplicity of recording tracks in parallel on a tape-shaped recording medium, wherein camera information representing the operating state of a camera when shooting each picture is recorded in a position corresponding to the recorded track of that picture so that the operating state of the camera at the time of taking the video signal which has already been recorded can reappear. Therefore, in a case where a video signal is recorded in continuity with this recorded portion, the camera operating state is controlled in a joint portion of these to improve the continuity in this joint portion.

  • Patent number: 5675693
Abstract: A recording medium stores video information representing frames including intra-coded frames which are spaced by intervals. A first device is operative for sequentially accessing different places on the recording medium and sequentially reproducing different segments of the video information therefrom. During a search, a second device is operative for detecting whether or not a first segment of the video information which is currently reproduced by the first device represents first one of the intra-coded frames. During the search and after the second device detects that the first segment of the video information represents the first one of the intra-coded frames, a third device is operative for jumping a place accessed by the first device to a given place on the recording medium and enabling the first device to reproduce a second segment of the video signal therefrom. The second segment represents second one of the intra-coded frames which differs from the first one of the intra-coded frames.

  • Patent number: 5673355
Abstract: A system for reproducing a luminance signal from a medium containing a previously recorded luminance signal with a high-frequency portion thereof compressed in dynamic range includes a circuit for recovering that luminance signal from the medium. Filtering is done to separate the low-frequency and compressed-in-dynamic-range high-frequency portions of the recovered luminance signal from each other. A corer responds to the separated compressed-in-dynamic-range high-frequency portion of the recovered luminance signal to provide a cored high-frequency portion with expanded dynamic range and reduced noise.

  • Patent number: 5673356
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for preventing unauthorized recording of video programs on tape, in which the frame repetition frequency of the signals to be transmitted is changed in such a manner that, on the one hand, the operation of a television apparatus used for reproducing said signals will not be disturbed, but that, on the other hand, the cooperation between the driving means for the tape and the recording head displacement in the tape recording apparatus will be disturbed. The apparatus comprises an input stage (4) for digitalizing the video signals, a shift memory (5), an output stage (8) for converting the video signals to be used into analog form, an input control stage (6) for the memory (5) and an output control stage (7) for the memory (5). The control frequency of the input control stage (6) is adapted to the frame repetition frequency of the digitalized video signals to be stored in the memory (5).

  • Patent number: 5668914
Abstract: Both a sharp print image and a natural reproduced move image can be obtained from a signal recorded on a recording medium. A recording signal, read from the recording medium, is converted into digital data and is delayed by one field. Data representing the current image in the n-th field and data representing an image in the (n-1)-th field one field ahead of the current image, are applied to a subtracting circuit, to extract a component representing moving image portions. An interpolated image for making movement correction is created from the extracted component representing the moving image portions by an interpolating circuit. Data representing the interpolated image and the data representing the current image in the n-th field are synthesized by a synthesizing circuit, to output composite data as data representing an image which has been subjected to movement correction.

  • Patent number: 5661847
Abstract: In a video recorder (1) with a control device (45) for starting the "recording" mode, with an index-signal generator (38, 48) for generating an index signal (VISS) which can be recorded on a record carrier (2), the control device (45) having a control connection with the index-signal generator (38, 48). The video recorder further includes a detection device (51) for detecting identification signals (VPS) in transmitted programs and for detecting any identification signal change. The detection device (51) also has a control connection with the index-signal generator (38, 48) and, when the video recorder (1) is in the "recording" mode and the detection device (51) detects an identification signal change, this detection device controls the index-signal generator (38, 48) so as to generate a further index signal (VISS).

  • Patent number: 5657416
Abstract: An encoded video data re-compressing apparatus further compresses, for further transmission or storage, an encoded video data stream that includes quantization parameters and quantized coefficients without having to decompress the encoded video data streams and subsequently re-compress the decompressed video data. The encoded video data stream is parsed for extracting the quantization parameters and quantized coefficients from other side information. The quantized coefficients are either divided by a predetermined integer or selectively discarded to reduce the total number of bits. In the former case, the corresponding quantization parameters are multiplied by a predetermined integer. The manipulated coefficients and quantization parameters are multiplexed with the side information, such that they occupy the location of the corresponding original coefficients and quantization parameters in the video data stream.

  • Patent number: 5646743
Abstract: A program filing method for a video tape recorder is disclosed. The tape is formatted into a number of regions so that the tape is arranged into a filing form, and thus, recording and reproduction is faster and more convenient by utilizing a VISS function. When a vacant tape is inserted, the total length of the tape is divided into a number of regions based on the desired formatting number, and VISS signals are recorded on each of the regions for several seconds, so that recording and reproduction can be carried out by selecting the formatted region number, thus making it possible to carry out recording or reproduction on the desired regions.
