    Abstract: In a remote control system for controlling operation of a tape playback apparatus for reproducing an information signal from a recording tape on which a time code is recorded with said information signal; the operation of the playback apparatus is controlled on the basis of data representative of a cue-up command and cue-up point, the presence or absence of the time code contained in the information signal to be reproduced from the recording tape by the playback apparatus, and the presence or absence of a change in value of the time code. When the time code has not been detected or the change in value of the time code has not been detected after the cue-up command has been fed to the tape playback apparatus, the recording tape is driven at a relatively high speed by a predetermined amount, and then the cue-up command is again fed to the tape playback apparatus.

    Abstract: A light spot positioning method and apparatus for performing a seek operation of positioning a record/playback light spot at a desired track on a recording medium by a macro moving mechanism for an optical head and a micro moving mechanism mounted on the optical head or the base of the apparatus, and for selecting the bandwidth of the control servo of the micro moving mechanism to be higher than 10 KHz during a track pull-in operation. By selecting the bandwidth of control servo of the micro moving mechanism higher than 10 KHz, the track can be pulled in with the relative velocity between the track and the light spot remaining high. During a track following operation after the completion of the track access, the band of the control servo of the micro moving mechanism is changed to a low level of lower than 5 KHz.
