  • Patent number: 6397474
Abstract: The present invention is a cable preparation tool which allows the preparation of a coaxial cable having a corrugated outer conductor to receive a connector in one step. The tool allows for the control of trim dimensions for each component of the cable without measuring. No matter whether the end of the cable before preparation is at the crest or valley of the outer conductor, the tool provides the correct trim dimensions for each component and stops cutting when these dimensions are reached. The cable preparation tool includes a main body having a cable receiving end, cable receiving area for stripping of the cable such that the crests and valleys are exposed, and a crest and valley locating system as part of the main body for locating the exposed crests and valleys of the corrugated conductor. The crest and valley locating system includes at least one valley locator unit extending into the cable receiving area and a spring that biases the valley locator unit into the cable receiving area.

  • Patent number: 6393956
Abstract: A device for cutting wood or other materials comprises a saw blade clamping device for radially and/or axially fixing circular saw blades mounted axially displaceable on a drive shaft. Support bodies are provided axially displaceable on the drive shaft for each circular saw blade. The axial displacement of the circular saw blades takes place by guide spindles running parallel to the axis of the drive shaft and passing through the support bodies. At least one clamping element is mounted in the drive shaft 1, 20. The clamping element is mounted radially displaceable. In a first stage, the circular saw blades which are mounted on the support bodies are thereby displaced. In a second stage, the circular saw blades or support bodies are connected to the drive shaft in keyed and/or force locking engagement. Through the device, a displacement of the cutting width is possible without the time and labor intensive dismantling of the saw blades.

  • Patent number: 6390161
Abstract: A process is disclosed for cutting logs to form large-surface wood chips, in which, on the one hand, a rotating knife ring provided with cutting knives which are oriented parallel to its axis of rotation and, on the other hand, a quantity of logs which are likewise oriented parallel to the axis of rotation of the knife ring are moved toward one another and the logs are cut. A device for carrying out this process is also disclosed. In a device of the type mentioned above, the movement of the knife ring directed to the logs and/or the movement of the logs directed to the knife ring is carried out on a curved path at least during the cutting process. In this way, individual chip sectors are “compressed”, while others are “expanded” in such a way that there is a greater proportion of chips whose quality lies within the predetermined tolerance.

  • Patent number: 6389945
Abstract: Curved stock is formed from flat stock by cutting a side-by-side series of V-shaped grooves in the face of a piece of flat stock to be curved with a saw blade having triangular cutting teeth. The cut is made to a predetermined depth so that the opposed face of the stock may be curved such that the V-shaped grooves are closed flush or at least partially closed. The resultant outer opposed curved face is thereby left free of any unsightly or undesirable ridges.

  • Patent number: 6382066
Abstract: Method and a device for slitting a material web traveling in the run direction in which at least one knife unit with a cutting edge, and arranged on a carrier that is movable transversely to the run direction in a machine frame, is positioned. A measurement device measures the position. The position measurement is improved in that the measurement device has two measurement transducers. A first measurement transducer is arranged on the carrier and measures the distance from the cutting edge to a reference point that is fixed with respect to the carrier. A second measurement transducer measures the distance between a reference point that is fixed with respect to the carrier and a zero point that is fixed in the machine frame. The absolute position of the cutting edge is established by combining the two distances.

  • Patent number: 6381854
Abstract: A bush-cutter for the manual moving of grass and the like comprises a rod or a stiff arm, working as a handle, which supports at one end a cutting head rotating around on axis and having cutting means with a cutting element, for example a blade or a flexible rope or the like, and engine means which make the cutting head rotate through gearing means. According to the invention, the bush-cutter comprises spacing means (13), including a spacer (14) which swings coaxially to said cutting head (11) around said axis (X—X) and which, during the mowing of the grass, selectively contacts any possible obstacle at a radial distance from the cutting head (11), that is longer than the radial extension of the cutting element of said cutting means (11.2), in respect of the head, in order to avoid the contact of said cutting element with the obstacle.

  • Patent number: 6374716
Abstract: A high speed harvester cutting chain has increased cutter height to provide an increased space for removal of the cut material from the saw kerf. The increased height of the cutter links eliminates the compacting of the material cut away by the cutter links between the saw chain and the base of the saw kerf. The foot of the cutter links are flared outward to contact the guide bar rails at a different position than the tie straps to increase the wear life of the guide bar and saw chain.

  • Patent number: 6375058
Abstract: A paperboard carton for storing and dispensing a roll of web material, such as plastic film, foil, wax paper, etc. has a plastic (e.g., polystyrene) cutting blade that is adhered either to an inside surface of the front wall of the paperboard carton, or to an inside surface of the bottom wall of the paperboard carton. The polystyrene cutting blade preferably has a thickness of about {fraction (20/1000)} of an inch, and preferably contains aggressive teeth at the ends of its serrated edge to help initiate tearing of the web material. The aggressive teeth are larger in size than the remaining teeth of the serrated edge. A slot is die-cut through the paperboard carton blank at the appropriate location in order to allow the serrated edge of the cutting blade to protrude through the slot and expose the teeth in a location suitable for tearing the web material. Use of the plastic or polystyrene cutting blade allows for increased production rates without compromising performance.

  • Patent number: 6374714
Abstract: A method of combining the grading and trimming operation of a board to thereby eliminate the position of a trimmer, includes feeding a board having two sides to a turn assembly with a first side of its two sides upright, grading the first side of the board, moving the board longitudinally using belt, chain, or rollers, and turning the board such that the second side of the board is upright and grading the second side of the board. In one embodiment the board is moved in a longitudinal direction using a roll case, to position the board in a position for trimming; whereas in another embodiment, laser lines projected on the board are moved instead of the board itself. The board is then fed to a trimmer to be cut. A sloped turn assembly or flat transfer assembly can be used to turn the board for inspection.

  • Patent number: 6360641
Abstract: A rip fence used with a table saw, where the table saw has an upper cutting surface with a front edge surface and a rear edge surface. The rip fence includes a main casing having a front clamping mechanism at the front end and a rear clamping mechanism at the rear end. The front clamping mechanisms has a frame with a handle pivotally connected thereto. A link is connected at one end to the handle and at another end to a cam. An activation plate is also connected the cam and to a clamping plate. The handle rotates between a locked position and a released position thereby moving the link to rotate the cam against the activation plate. The activation plate causes the clamping plate to laterally move between a locked position and a released position relative the front edge surface. The handle also causes the rear clamping mechanism to move between a locked and a released position relative the rear edge surface.
