Abstract: The invention relates to a two phase cement mixture which is particularly suitable for orthopaedic use, in which the solid phase comprises a polymer, polymetyl methacrylate, and a catalyst, benzoyl peroxide, while the liquid phase comprises a monomer, monomethyl methacrylate, an accelerator, N-N-dimethyl-p-toluidine and hydroquinone. The said polymetyl methacrylate is in powder form with particles of a spherical shape which are of a suitable particle size. Fluoride in form of salt can be added to the said solid phase, realizing fluoride ions, making them available to the part of the bone with which the said mixture is in contact when is used to attach a prothesis to a bone.

Abstract: Novel halogen-substituted phthalimides are provided which are the reaction product of a halogenated phthalic anhydride with an alkoxylated amine or the reaction product of a halogenated phthalic anhydride with a siloxy amine. The halogen-substituted phthalimides are useful in increasing the flame retardancy of thermoplastic and thermosetting resins, and are also effective as processing aids in improving the flowability and moldability of thermoplastic resins during melt processing.

Abstract: A polyoxymethylene composition which exhibits improved stability against the degradative effects of ultraviolet light includes a triazine-based antioxidant and UV stabilizers. One preferred composition of the invention includes, based upon the total weight of the composition, an oxymethylene copolymer, between 0.015 to about 0.4 weight percent of 2,4,6-triamino-sym-triazine (as a formaldehyde scavenger), between about 0.25 to about 1.0 weight percent of each of 2-2(hydroxy-5-t-octylphenyl) benzotriazole, and bis(2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4-piperidinyl)sebacate as UV light stabilizers, and between about 0.25 to about 1.0 weight percent of 3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyhydrocinnamic acid triester with 1,3,5-tris(2-hydroxy-ethyl)-s-triazine-2,4,6-(1H, 3H, 5H)-trione as an antioxidant. Due to their enchanced UV-light stability property, the compositions of the invention find particular utility as molded automobile components.

Abstract: The invention relates to a melt-processible aromatic (co)polymer composition containing:1-99 wt. % of a liquid crystalline polymer, and99-1 wt. % of a polymer derived from units, capable of forming a liquid crystalline polymer, and from one or more triazine units according to the formula (I) ##STR1## where R.sub.1 is an amino group, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 is an (alkyl)carboxyl-, an (alkyl)hydroxy- and/or an amino group.Besides excellent mechanical properties, the (co)polymer composition according to the invention possesses an improved thermal shock resistance. Abstract: A solid stabilizer composition for synthetic polymers is formed by a solid, continuous phase and by a solid dispersed phase in said continuous phase, wherein the continuous phase is constituted by amorphous 2,2'-oxamido-bis[ethyl-3-(3,5-di-tert.-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)-propionate] and the dispersed phase is constituted by an amorphous, or crystalline, or partially amorphous and partially crystalline organic phosphite, with the weight ratio of said continuous phase to said dispersed phase being comprised within the range of from 9:1 to 1:9.The process for preparing said solid composition and its use in the stabilization of synthetic polymers are disclosed.

Abstract: This invention is directed to a stabilizer useful to retard transesterification in moldable polymer blends containing polyester(s) during processing of the blends at elevated temperatures, particularly at high temperatures above about 285.degree. C. More particularly, the stabilizer comprises a phosphate-epoxy adduct. The stabilizer may optionally further comprise a reactive functionality component comprising a compound having a imide or oxazoline functionality and/or a hindered phenol component. The invention is also directed to a composition comprising the stabilizer and a particularly defined polymer blend.

Abstract: A plastisol composition comprising polyvinyl chloride as a main component, a plasticizer and a blocked compound of diisocyanate polymer with styrenated phenol as an adhesion-improver, and optionally a powdery curing agent having a melting point of 50.degree. to 150.degree.
