  • Patent number: 8619878
Abstract: A digital broadcasting transmission and/or reception system having an improved reception performance and a signal-processing method thereof. A digital broadcasting transmitter comprises a TRS encoder for to TRS-encode an MPEG-2 transmission stream having null data for inserting an SRS data and a TRS parity at predetermined positions, randomizer to input and randomize data stream from the TRS encoder, a SRS exchanger to replace the null data for inserting the SRS data to the known data, and an encoder for encoding a data streams to which the Known data is inserted. Accordingly, the present invention detects the known data from a signal received from a reception side and uses the detected known data for synchronization and equalization and further uses the TRS parity for correcting error of the received signal, so that the digital broadcasting reception performance can be improved at poor multipath channels.

  • Patent number: 8559511
Abstract: The present invention relates to method and apparatus for video coding by ABT-based just noticeable difference (JND). For building the just noticeable difference model, spatial content information (SCI) is used to represent the spatial appearance similarity between one macroblock and its sub-blocks and the motion characteristic distance (MCD) is used to represent the motion characteristics similarity between one macroblock and its sub-blocks. For intra frames, the balance strategy based on the obtained SCI of the macroblock is used to generate the ABT-based JND model. For inter frames, the balanced strategy based on the obtained SCI and MCD of the macroblock is used to generate the ABT-based JND model. Using the ABT-based JND model, the residual coefficients for each block in a frame is filtered to obtain a reduced set of residual coefficients for transmission without degradation in visual quality.

  • Patent number: 8466964
Abstract: A multispectral thermal infrared camera system is disclosed. An uncooled thermal imaging camera is equipped with an axially tilted, cooled spectral filter. The axially tilted, cooled spectral filter deflects the radiation emitted by the uncooled camera away from being reflected back into the camera. The axially tilted, cooled spectral filter emits a lesser amount of thermal radiation towards the camera. And the axially tilted, cooled tilted filter is enclosed in a cold radiation shield to minimize the thermal emission that would be reflected by the filter towards the camera and to absorb the radiation deflected by the tilted filter. The axially tilted, cooled spectral filter passes only the desired portion of the thermal infrared radiation from the scene onto the uncooled camera.

  • Patent number: 8416288
Abstract: According to one embodiment, an electronic apparatus configured to reproduce video data and additional data for displaying a sub-image, includes a first generator, an arrangement control module, a second generator, and a display control module. The first generator estimates depths of pixels in an image frame of the video data, and generates first left-eye image data and first right-eye image data which correspond to the image frame and have a parallax based on the depths. The arrangement control module sets a depth at which the sub-image is to be displayed, based on a foremost depth of the depths. The second generator generates second left-eye image data and second right-eye image data which correspond to the additional data and have a parallax based on the set depth of the sub-image. The display control module displays an image frame generated by using the generated image data.
