Abstract: The disclosed technology is directed towards selecting and returning a user interface, such as of a streaming media service, that is based on a child user's age. As a child ages, the child receives a generally more sophisticated user interface, such that a younger child needs only simple interaction to select a desired (for example age-appropriate) content offering, while an older child can use more complex interaction to locate and select a desired content offering. Profile data associated with the user is sent with each request for content, including the request for a user interface, starting with a home page. The age of the user can be determined from the profile data with any request, whereby a user interface can appear to adapt based on user age over time. The profile data can be locked to a device to retain the profile data after a logoff/new login operation.

Abstract: Described are systems and methods for determining and/or generating a queue of content items to improve the playback experience of the content items for a user. The content items may be obtained, for example, by a client device from an online service in response to a query, a request for content items, and the like. Relevance rankings and/or scores associated with the content items may be replaced and/or augmented with a playability score, which can represent a quality of the playback experience associated with each content item. The playability score for each content item may be aggregated with the relevance and/or user engagement score associated with each content item to determine an overall playback score for each content item. The content items may be ranked, ordered, arranged, and/or presented in accordance with the overall playback scores associated with the content items to facilitate an improved playback experience for a user associated with the client device.

Abstract: Systems and methods for, while a user is consuming a first media asset, generating for the user a recommendation of a second media asset based on a viewing history of the user. In some aspects, the systems and methods determine that a user is consuming only video of a first media asset, determine a first category for the first media asset, and retrieve a viewing history corresponding to the user. The viewing history comprises media assets consumed simultaneously with a media asset corresponding to the first category. The systems and methods select a second category corresponding to a highest number of media assets in the viewing history, select a second media asset based on the second category. Alternatively, the user can select the second media asset manually. The systems and methods generate for output the audio of the second media asset for simultaneous consumption with the video of the first media asset.

Abstract: A broadcast receiving apparatus includes: a digital broadcast receiver configured to receive digital broadcasting in which contents are transmitted; a network transceiver configured to execute network communication; a data string converter configured to perform a mixing process for creating a new coded data string based on a coded data string of the received contents and a coded data string acquired by the network transceiver; a digital interface configured to output the contents to external equipment; and a controller configured to determine a state of the network communication of the external equipment. The state of the network communication of the external equipment includes a first state in which the network communication is in a communicable state and a second state in which the network communication is in an uncommunicable state. In accordance with the determined state of the network communication, the digital interface performs three types of output operations.

Abstract: A television receiver 101 is connected to two or more wireless terminals via a communication line. A controller 214 and a network I/F 212 in the television receiver 101 send pieces of login information entered from the two or more wireless terminals to the content distribution server and obtain pieces of content list information each generated by the content distribution server based on the pieces of login information. An aggregated content list in which the obtained pieces of content list information are aggregated is generated. The display 210 displays the aggregated content list. The content list information includes content available for viewing on the information terminal connected to the communication line. The aggregated content list includes content available for viewing on the two or more information terminals in which the pieces of content list information are aggregated.

Abstract: A particular implementation correlates a broadcast media item, which has a metadata element containing either a station call sign or channel number for a program, to a specific broadcast frequency and a virtual channel that a service provider broadcasts the program on. A command string is algorithmically defined to encode the frequency and physical channel, and is presented to the tuner hardware for locking onto and decoding the signal. A URL including the command string can then be generated. Consequently, a DLNA client device can engage a media renderer to play the broadcast media item through the exchange of a URL and a control interface.

Abstract: Computing platforms and methods for dynamic presentation of graphical and video content are disclosed. Exemplary implementations may: provide, in a static browsing state, a static image associated with underlying video content; in response to an extended focus on the static image for a first threshold amount of time, expand a visual tile to a widescreen aspect ratio while remaining in the static browsing state; after a second threshold amount of time, initiate a dwell browsing state in which dwell tile content is provided in the expanded visual tile, while other content remains in the static browsing state; in response to a determination that the playback device supports a dwell video mode, play a video asset within the expanded visual tile; and in response to a determination that the playback device does not support the dwell video mode, provide an alternate non-video visual asset within the expanded visual tile.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a display device and a display system for providing lyrics when reproducing music of the external device, regardless of a connection state of an external device. The display device includes: a display; a controller configured to receive a music reproduction command through an external device; and an audio output interface configured to output music received from the external device, wherein, when the controller receives the music reproduction command, the controller is configured to request lyric information to the external device, and when the controller receives the lyric information from the external device, the controller is configured to display lyrics through the display while outputting the music.

Abstract: Systems, apparatuses, and methods are described for detecting malfunctions of computing devices causing outputs of video content. Partially or fully static content frames may be detected, and, indications may be generated based on the static content frames. The indications may be analyzed to identify computing devices with degraded performance. Diagnostic tests may be run by the identified computing devices and/or other actions performed based on a determination of static content frames.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided herein for presenting a focused display of content. A content item is generated for display and an index map is received for the content item. The index map correlates the content item, for example, a region of the content item, to the focused content. A focus indicator can be simultaneously displayed with the content item to inform a viewer of the availability of the focused content. A selection to present the focused content is received and in response, and based on the index map, the focused content is generated for display, thereby enabling a viewer to have a personalized viewing experience.

Abstract: Systems, techniques, and apparatuses are described for displaying digital media packages on mobile vehicles, including manned and unmanned autonomous ground and air vehicles. Apparatuses describe media display and mounting modalities in a variety of form factors, as well as component configurations for audience detection using sensor arrays. Systems and techniques describe mechanisms for selecting and displaying media packages aligned with the dynamic environmental, temporal, and geolocation conditions of client media display apparatuses.

Abstract: Systems and methods for storing videos in a storage device, more specifically in a digital video recorder (DVR). The method includes determining, for each video, a condition indicating a need to reduce the size of a respective video is determined. The condition being at least a storage period of the respective video being greater than a threshold time period. Upon determination reducing the video size either by reducing at least one quality parameter of the respective video or by eliminating at least one video segment of the video corresponding to an uneventful region. Further after the size reduction, storing the respective video as a modified version of the respective video in the storage device. Further, the video or a portion of video comprising important events can be shared with a remote device.

Abstract: Metadata for media content items is received. The media content items are displayed in an overview area in an electronic program guide (EPG) of a user interface. The overview area includes cells aligned in one or more rows. Input of a selection of one of the media content items displayed at the EPG in the user interface is received. Responsive to receiving the input of the selected media content item, the selected media content item is displayed in a focus area in the EPG of the user interface. The focus area includes expanded metadata that includes a sample of the selected media content item that is played as an underlay of a display of at least some of the subset of the metadata of the selected media content item.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for customizing a profile page. A first user profile and a second user profile are accessed by a computing device. First and second pluralities of content items associated with the first and second user are identified. Based on the first and second user profiles, first and second subsets of content items of the first and second plurality of content items are selected. For each content item of the first subset of content items, an image associated with the content item is identified. For each content item of the second subset of content items, an image associated with the content item is identified. Based on the identified images, first and second image collages are generated for the first and second user profiles. The first and second image collages and first and second indicators corresponding to the first and second user profiles are generated for display.

Abstract: Methods, systems and devices to stream media content are described. A user interface is presented to a user via a media device. When the media device has determined that an interaction with the user interface has occurred (e.g., the user has begun scrolling through a list, or has performed a keyword search), the media device requests, from a media content source, a subset of first media content based on the interaction with the user interface and prior to selection of the first media content via the user interface. The subset of first media content is then displayed in response to the selection of the first media content.

Abstract: A content delivery system includes a computing platform having processing hardware and a system memory storing software code, a user account database, and a content database. The processing hardware executes the software code to receive, from a user device utilized by a user, a request for access to a first content of a plurality of contents, the request including an identifier of a sponsor of the request, to verify, using the identifier, an authorization status of the sponsor, and transmit to the user device, based on verification of the authorization status of the sponsor, content access data enabling access to the first content by the user. The processing further executes the software code to detect that the user is accessing the first content, and to offer, in response to detecting that access, an opportunity to the user to obtain access to the plurality of contents.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described for providing interactive content contextually related to an occurrence. An illustrative method generates for display, at a media consumption device, a display of the live event, wherein the display of the live event comprises the occurrence, determines a beginning of the occurrence in the display of the live event, in response to determining the beginning of the occurrence in the display of the live event, generates for simultaneous display, with the display of the live event, interactive content related to the occurrence, determines whether the occurrence in the live event has ended in real time, and in response to determining that the occurrence in the live event has ended in real time, ceases the generating for display of the interactive content related to the occurrence.

Abstract: An audio/video stream recording, storage, and delivery system 10 utilizes an Internet-based browser connection. The system 10 includes recording software 20, storage memory 30, a code generator 40, and a user interface 50. Preferably, the recording software 20 is located on the host back end 60 where it processes and records audio and video material that originates from the user front end 70 and is streamed to the host back end. The storage memory 30, which is also located on the host back end 60, stores the recorded audio and video material. The user interface 50 to the system provides a user located at the user front end 70 with remote access to a virtual recording room. The user interface 50 further enables the user to record audio and video material streamed from the user front end 70 by activating the recording software 20 located on the host back end 60. This is accomplished without requiring recording functionality on the user front end 70.

Abstract: A system is provided that determines a media item for an insertion in a first media feed of a first channel based on a pre-encoded media content, metadata related to the pre-encoded media content, and audience-based parameters. The audience-based parameters comprise demographics data, targeted audience data, device type data, and trending information that includes media items based on current trend in a social network platform. Each media segment of the pre-encoded media content corresponds to a different quality level and content encryption mode. A second channel is generated from the first channel based on the audience-based parameters, the media item inserted in the first media feed, and a second programming schedule. The second programming schedule corresponds to a modified first programming schedule based on the audience-based parameters. Based on at least the media item, the second media feed of the second channel is generated for distribution to a consumer device.

Abstract: An encoder resource receives segments of content on one or more data feeds. The encoder resource receives and/or produces encoder control information specifying multiple different bit rate data streams on which to encode the segments of content. As specified by the encoder control information, in accordance with encoding rules, the encoder resource adaptively encodes the segments of content into a varying number of different bit rate data streams. Clients in a network environment initiate retrieval of the varying number of different bit rate data streams to playback content.
