Abstract: Techniques are described for using the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) 3.0 television protocol in robustly delivering TV programming to mobile receivers while ensuring error correction.

Abstract: A video management system may send time-stamped metadata corresponding to a video stream across a communication path having a limited bandwidth. Time-stamped metadata for a first reference video frame which identifies objects in the reference frame may be generated, and sent across the communication path. Time-stamped metadata for each of a plurality of first delta video frames following the first reference video frame may be generated, the time-stamped metadata for each of the plurality of first delta video frames may identify changes in detected objects relative to the objects identified in the time-stamped metadata for the first reference video frame. The time-stamped metadata for each of the plurality of first delta video frames may be sent across the communication path.

Abstract: A synchronization control device configured to synchronize media play between at least two remote devices is disclosed. The synchronization control device includes: an input for receiving data indicating a point in a play of media content on a first remote media play device; and a synchronization controller module configured to align the point of play of media content on a first remote media play device with a point of play of the media content at a second remote media play device; and delivering commands to the first remote media play device and the second remote media display device, wherein the commands control the first remote media play device and the second remote media play device to substantially synchronize the play of the media content in the first remote media play device and the second remote media play device.

Abstract: Example systems and methods for automated generation of banner images are disclosed. A program identifier associated with a particular media program may be received by a system, and used for accessing a set of iconic digital images and corresponding metadata associated with the particular media program. The system may select a particular iconic digital image for placing a banner of text associated with the particular media program, by applying an analytical model of banner-placement criteria to the iconic digital images. The system may apply another analytical model for banner generation to the particular iconic image to determine (i) dimensions and placement of a bounding box for containing the text, (ii) segmentation of the text for display within the bounding box, and (iii) selection of font, text size, and font color for display of the text. The system may store the particular iconic digital image and banner metadata specifying the banner.

Abstract: In an anonymous matching system, a demand-side service platform (DSP) may select segments to populate a target audience. A data warehouse platform and a multichannel video programming distributor (MVPD) platform ingest address lists, eliminate personally identifiable information (PII) from the address lists, and process the de-identified addresses to generate deterministic unique anonymous household identifiers (UHIDs). Households may be selected, for example, at the DSP's direction, to form a query request without exposing the PII. In response to the query request, the MVPD platform determines a matching UHID and includes a matching household attribute, such as an IP address or the like, in a query response without exposing the PII.

Abstract: Devices, computer-readable media, and methods for presenting segments of at least one video program in accordance with a definition document are disclosed. For example, a processor may load a definition document for at least one video program. The definition document may specify segments of the at least one video program for presentation and further specify segment types for the segments. The segment types may identify whether a segment is to include video content, include audio content, or include both video and audio content. The processor may further obtain the at least one video program, present a first segment of the at least one video program in accordance with the definition document, and present a second segment of the plurality of segments of the at least one video program in accordance with the definition document.

Abstract: Various embodiments provide media based on a detected language being spoken. In one embodiment, the system electronically detects which language of a plurality of languages is being spoken by a user, such during a conversation or while giving a voice command to the television. Based on which language of a plurality of languages is being spoken by the user, the system electronically presents media to the user that is in the detected language. For example, the media may be television channels and/or programs that are in the detected language and/or a program guide, such as a pop-up menu, including such media that are in the detected language.

Abstract: In a communication system where a channel feed carrying a media stream is broadcast for delivery of the media stream to a media client, where the channel feed further includes metadata in-band and correlated with a content frame of the media stream, but where the metadata gets removed from the channel feed before the media stream reaches the media client, a computing system (i) extracts the metadata from the channel feed and (ii) transmits out-of-band to the media client the extracted metadata in correlation with reference fingerprint data representing the frame of the media stream, the correlation being useable by the media client as a basis to re-correlate the metadata with the frame of the media stream, so as to enable the media client to carry out an action, such as dynamic ad insertion, based on the correlation of the metadata with the frame of the media stream.

Abstract: In accordance with one or more embodiments of the present disclosure, systems and methods for publishing and/or sharing media presentations over a network comprise communicating with a user and one or more distribution channels via the network, gathering media resources based on user input, creating a media presentation with the media resources based on user input, and publishing the media presentation by distributing the media presentation to the one or more distribution channels via the network. In one aspect, publishing comprises directly emailing the media presentation to one or more other users via the network. In another aspect, publishing comprises providing a link to one or more other users via the network for direct access to the media presentation. In still another aspect, publishing comprises obtaining and embedding source code for the media presentation in a web page associated with one or more of the distribution channels via the network.

Abstract: A media device and method execute computer instructions to: generate a first query fingerprint of media content; send the first query fingerprint to a server; and receive, from the server, an identification of a first channel being watched in response to the server finding a match to the first query fingerprint. The media device iteratively receives, from the server, a plurality of fingerprints generated from the media content in locations ahead of where the media content is being received; store the plurality of fingerprints in a local database of a computer-readable storage medium; and compare a second query fingerprint of the media content with the plurality of fingerprints to determine whether the media device remains set on the first channel, without continuously pinging the server. When the media device locally detects a non-match with the second query fingerprint, the process starts over with it finding a match at the server.

Abstract: An edge server is served by a rendering machine supplying groups of pictures (GOPs) and comprises a buffer for a predetermined lead time over actual time. If a rendering machine fails then the partially available GOP from that rendering machine is discarded and another rendering machine, having the capacity to handle the GOPs stream, is activated. It provides GOPS from the failed GOP onwards and rendering continues therefrom by the replacing rendering machine. Rendering initially at a faster than real-time speed it is possible to catch-up on time so that the edge server continues to receive and transmit the GOPs without interruption. A plurality of rendering machines continuously operate to feed the edge server(s) and the number of channels used is such that allows for sufficient redundancy as well as for the faster than real-time rendering that is necessary in the case of a need for failover.

Abstract: A system for controlling turning on and off of closed captioning receives information regarding a program content stream and automatically determines whether to turn on or off closed captioning based on thresholds being crossed regarding an estimated current loudness level of ambient noise and an estimated current loudness level of the audio of the program content stream. The estimated current loudness level of audio of the program content stream is, or is based on, one or more indications of current volume level in an audio signal representing the audio of the program content stream and current audio settings of a device outputting the audio of the program content stream. The system may estimate the loudness level of the ambient noise by use of a loudness meter that causes the ambient noise to be sampled with a microphone and a decibel level of the sampled ambient noise to be determined.

Abstract: A system for monitoring displayed content, such as advertisements, has at least one sensor that is used to monitor an electronic display and provide information about the operation of the display, such as the content being displayed or whether one or more components of the display are operating correctly. The sensor is selected, positioned, and/or otherwise configured to limit the its ability to collect information in the environment surrounding the display so as to reduce concerns about the use of the sensor in a private or secure environment. The system may be used to confirm that the hardware of the display system is operating correctly and displaying the proper content at the proper times.

Abstract: Presentation of content on a display device is adaptively modified based on the apparent size of a content area in which the content is presented. A distance between the first user and the display device is determined, as well as an actual size of the content area in which the content is being presented. Based on the distance and the actual size of the content area, an apparent size of the content area is calculated, and presentation of the content is modified based on the apparent size of the content area.

Abstract: A method and system of multimedia streaming services using DASH (Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP) are disclosed. According to this method, one or more Push Directives are sent from a client to a server to indicate information related to media data requested. Each Push Directive comprises a Push type including Push-rate and Push-rate Directive includes information associated with a push data rate related to the media data requested. If the Push-rate Directive is received by the server, one or more groups of data for the media data requested are pushed from the server to the client according to the push data rate. According to another method, fragmented MPDS are used, where at least one fragmented MPD omits a MPD header, MPD payload, Period header or Period payload. In yet another method, a status message group includes SharedResourceAllocation message that comprises parameters including bandwidth and pacingRate.

Abstract: Techniques for machine learning optimization are provided. A video comprising a plurality of segments is received, and a first segment of the plurality of segments is processed with a machine learning (ML) model to generate a plurality of tags, where each of the plurality of tags indicates presence of an element in the first segment. A respective accuracy value is determined for each respective tag of the plurality of tags, where the respective accuracy value is based at least in part on a maturity score for the ML model. The first segment is classified as accurate, based on determining that an aggregate accuracy of tags corresponding to the first segment exceeds a predefined threshold. Upon classifying the first segment as accurate, the first segment is bypassed during a review process.

Abstract: A video item is provided for playback at a media player executing at a user device. The media player is logically divided into multiple sections. An indication of a touch gesture made by a user with respect to a touchscreen of the user device is received. Whether the touch gesture with respect to the touchscreen of the user device qualifies as a first predetermined touch gesture is determined. The first predetermined touch gesture is within a portion of a user interface (UI) that is includes in a first section of the media player. Responsive to determining the touch gesture with respect to the touchscreen of the user device qualifies as the first predetermined gesture, the playback of the video item is moved from a first point in time to a second point in time by a predetermined amount of time.

Abstract: A video generation system is configured to provide streaming video as a cloud processed service to viewers over a computing network. In response to a request from a viewer, a video source is configured to provide video and an identifier source is configured to provide an identifier for inclusion in the video. A video encoder is configured to convert the video from a first format to a second format, apply the identifier to the video, and otherwise encode the video in real-time while streaming the encoded video to the viewer. The identifier may be stored in association with the account information of the viewer and used for identifying the viewer a source of an unauthorized video copy.

Abstract: System and methods for facilitating content watch parties may include a sync server having a server CPU, a host user device, a client user device, and a content provider. The content provider may first provide a first portion of the content independently to the host user device and the client user device. The content provider may second provide a second portion of the content to the host user device and the client user device. The first providing of the first portion of the content may occur separately of the second providing of the second portion of the content. The sync server may synchronize the second providing of the second portion of the content to the client user device to facilitate substantially simultaneously presentations of the second portion of the content by the host user device and the client user device.

Abstract: An electronic apparatus includes a communication interface; a memory storing a control code information of a content providing apparatus; and at least one processor configured to: based on repeatedly receiving, from a remote controller, a control signal for changing a volume value of the electronic apparatus more than a threshold number of times through the communication interface, obtain state information of the content providing apparatus, identify a current volume value of the content providing apparatus or a state of the content providing apparatus, based on the state information, and based on the current volume value of the content providing apparatus being less than or equal to a threshold value or the content providing apparatus being in a mute state, control the communication interface to transmit a control signal to change the volume value of the content providing apparatus to the remote controller based on the stored control code information.
