Patent number: 10123803Abstract: Systems, methods, and devices for the treatment of acute ischemic stroke that provide immediate blood flow restoration to a vessel occluded by a clot and, after reestablishing blood flow, address the clot itself. Immediate blood flow restoration advantageously can facilitate natural lysis of the clot and also can reduce or obviate the concern for distal embolization due to fragmentation of the clot. Several embodiments of the invention provide for progressive, or modular, treatment based upon the nature of the clot. For example, the progressive treatment can include immediate restoration of blood flow, in-situ clot management, and/or clot removal depending on the particular circumstances of the treatment. The in-situ clot management can include, for example, lysis, maceration, and/or removal.Type: GrantFiled: June 29, 2011Date of Patent: November 13, 2018Assignee: COVIDIEN LPInventors: David A. Patent number: 9839771Abstract: Apparatus and methods are provided for accessing body lumens and/or for delivering instruments into body lumens, e.g., vessels within a patient's vasculature. A flexible sheath is provided that is expandable from a contracted condition to an enlarged condition wherein the sheath at least partially defines a lumen therein. The sheath is lubricious and has a relatively thin wall, thereby providing a collapsible/expandable guide for delivering fluids and/or instruments through tortuous anatomy and/or into relatively narrow passages. The sheath is advanced from an entry site to a body lumen in the contracted condition. Once the sheath reaches a target body lumen, the sheath is expanded to the enlarged condition, thereby defining a lumen within the sheath, and fluids and/or instruments are introduced into the body lumen via the sheath lumen. Upon completing the procedure, the sheath is removed from the body lumen.Type: GrantFiled: March 18, 2009Date of Patent: December 12, 2017Assignee: THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE LELAND STANFORD JUNIOR UNIVERSITYInventors: Christian Scott Eversull, Nicholas J. Patent number: 9744337Abstract: Methods of using a medical device having catheter with one or more expandable constricting/occluding members for preventing distal embolization during extracranial or intracranial carotid procedures or vertebral artery procedures by augmenting collateral cerebral circulation by coarctation of the aorta to enhance reversal of blood flow in an internal carotid artery, an external carotid artery, and/or a common carotid artery are disclosed. An interventional catheter can also be advanced into a right cerebral artery and a procedure performed on a lesion in the right cerebral artery.Type: GrantFiled: December 12, 2011Date of Patent: August 29, 2017Assignee: Zoll Circulation, Inc.Inventor: Denise R. Patent number: 8512388Abstract: A stent delivery catheter system having a catheter with stent releasably mounted on a stent retention portion of the catheter for delivery and deployment within a patient's body lumen, and a method of mounting the stent on the stent retention portion of the catheter. The method generally includes exposing the stent retention portion and/or the stent to a solvent, the solvent being in the vapor phase. The vapor phase solvent typically softens the stent retention portion of the catheter, and/or, in one embodiment in which the stent has a coating on the stent body, the vapor phase solvent softens the stent coating. In a presently preferred embodiment, the stent polymeric coating has a therapeutic agent, and the method of the invention prevents or inhibits disadvantageously affecting the therapeutic agent coating during mounting of the stent on the catheter.Type: GrantFiled: June 24, 2004Date of Patent: August 20, 2013Assignee: Advanced Cardiovascular Systems, Inc.Inventors: Wouter Roorda, Tim A. Patent number: 8323325Abstract: The present invention provides a catheter system which includes a catheter, an expandable balloon, at least one securement member, and a stent. The stent is disposed about the catheter and comprises at least one undulating band that extends circumferentially around the longitudinal axis of the catheter system. The undulating band includes interconnected strut members which form a series of alternating peaks and valleys. Adjacent strut members comprise a strut pair, wherein each strut member of the strut pair includes a protuberance positioned along the length of the strut member, between a peak and a valley. The protuberances, which are substantially circumferentially opposed to one another, engage a securement member, thereby minimizing lateral stent movement on the delivery system during delivery.Type: GrantFiled: September 25, 2006Date of Patent: December 4, 2012Assignee: Boston Scientific Scimed, Inc.Inventor: Hans Valencia

Patent number: 7938839Abstract: An endoscopic suturing device having an interlocking trigger assembly for preventing premature needle deployment. The suturing device comprises a handle assembly that includes a movable handle interlocking with a trigger. The suturing device further comprises an end effector having an upper jaw, a lower jaw and a needle/suture mechanism. The motion of the movable handle causes the upper jaw to move relative to the lower jaw. The activation of the trigger causes deployment of the needle/suture mechanism. The interlocking mechanism ensures that the needle/suture is deployed only when the upper jaw is below a maximum allowable distance from the lower jaw.Type: GrantFiled: February 26, 2004Date of Patent: May 10, 2011Assignee: Symmetry Medical New Bedford, IncInventors: Francis J. Patent number: 7316697Abstract: A vessel cleaning system for removing an obstruction from within a patient's vessel, the system comprising a housing, connected to a flexible-tube, a motor-driven flexible agitator-shaft rotatably disposed in the flexible-tube, and a flexible distal-agitator that is connected to the agitator-shaft and shaped so that it is asymmetrically offset to only one side of the longitudinal axis of the agitator-shaft. The agitator-shaft is extended from an open distal end of the flexible-tube to break the obstruction into pieces while rotating with an effective diameter that is larger than its cross-sectional diameter and the distal-agitator is made of a spiral wire, whereas the direction of its winding, relative to the direction of rotation, is such that the distal-agitator unscrews itself from tight engagements with its surroundings and automatically retracts into the flexible-tube.Type: GrantFiled: April 25, 2003Date of Patent: January 8, 2008Inventor: Samuel Shiber
