  • Patent number: 9578646
Abstract: A method and a satellite terminal are provided. The satellite terminal may range over multiple frequencies and may receive, from a satellite gateway, a signal quality indicator with respect to each of the ranged multiple frequencies. Noise and interference for a corresponding frequency are estimated based on at least one of the received signal quality indicators for the corresponding frequency. Path loss is estimated based on multiple received signal quality indicators, each of which is received in response to the satellite terminal transmitting a signal while not performing the ranging process. A transmit power level of the satellite terminal is adjusted for the corresponding frequency based on the estimated path loss and the estimated noise and interference for the corresponding frequency.

  • Patent number: 9572162
Abstract: A node of a wireless network transmits information to a user equipment over an aggregated carrier that includes a primary carrier having a first set of primary carrier time/frequency resources and a secondary carrier having a second set of secondary carrier time/frequency resources. Synchronization signals and/or reference symbols are transmitted to the user equipment on the secondary carrier less often than on the primary carrier. An indication of when and/or how often the synchronization signals and/or reference symbols will be transmitted to the user equipment on the secondary carrier may also be transmitted to the user equipment over the primary carrier. By transmitting synchronization signals and/or reference symbols to the user equipment on the secondary carrier less often than on the primary carrier, resources of the secondary carrier may be conserved, energy efficiency of the secondary carrier may be increased, and/or interference with other cells may be reduced or prevented.

  • Patent number: 9571412
Abstract: A new approach is proposed to support a virtual network switch, which is a software implementation of a network switch utilizing hardware to accelerate implementation of timers of the virtual network switch under OpenFlow protocol. The approach utilizes a plurality of hardware-implemented timer blocks/rings, wherein each of the rings covers a specified time period and has a plurality of timer buckets each corresponding to an interval of expiration time of timers. When a new flow table entry is programmed at an OpenFlow agent of the virtual network switch, its associated timer entries are created and inserted into the corresponding timer bucket based on the expiration time of the timers. During operation, hardware of the virtual network switch traverses the timer rings for the timer bucket which time has expired, identifies timer entries in the expired timer bucket, interrupts CPU or provides a notification to the agent with necessary contextual information.

  • Patent number: 9565217
Abstract: The present invention discloses numerous implementations for IP-based call processing systems that can selectively control an outgoing call initiated by a source device to a destination device. The call processing system communicates with a Service Switching Point (SSP) associated with the source device and determines whether to effect control of the outgoing call. It could determine to effect control of the outgoing call for many reasons including to convey a media message to the source device, to implement a call feature or to manage call restrictions. Upon determining to effect control of the outgoing call, the call processing system causes the SSP to initiate a media connection between the source device and the call processing system. The call processing system can then utilize the media connection with the source device to perform functionality for the outgoing call prior to and/or during the outgoing call.

  • Patent number: 9560085
Abstract: Systems and methods of preventing an Internet service provider from identifying a stream of data packets as carrying a voice over Internet protocol telephony communication can make use of encryption techniques to prevent the Internet service provider from examining the content of the data packets. Also, multiple communications channels may be established between a telephony device and elements of an IP telephony system. A stream of data packets bearing the media of an IP telephony communication is then separated into sub-streams, and each sub-stream is sent through a different one of the communications channels. This prevents an Internet service provider from identifying a stream of data packets as bearing the media of an IP telephony communication based on a pattern in the data traffic.

  • Patent number: 9515845
Abstract: An exemplary method and system of the present disclosure use the Parallel Redundancy Protocol PRP (IEC 62439-3) for traffic duplication and redundant transport of the duplicated traffic in a single packet-switched wide-area communication network including a plurality of nodes interconnected via inter-node links in a meshed topology. The method involves identifying, between a send and receive node, two distinct communication paths with no link or node in common except for the send and receive node, and configuring the send and receive nodes to operate according to the Parallel Redundancy Protocol PRP. At any time during regular operation, and for any critical message to be transmitted from the send to the receive node, two redundant packets can be generated, and each of the redundant packets is sent via one of the two communication paths, resulting in an increased availability of the communication network without incurring the cost of full network duplication.

  • Patent number: 9497568
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention disclose a method, an apparatus, and a system for controlling network access of a machine terminal. In the embodiments of the present invention, an authorized period and/or a forbidden period of a time-controlled subscription is generated according to information such as network service load historical data of a network and application information of the time-controlled subscription. Network access of the machine terminal is controlled according to the authorized period and/or the forbidden period. Because the network access time of the machine terminal can be controlled flexibly, the communication of the machine terminal can be controlled flexibly, and impacts of machine terminal communication on ordinary terminal communication can be reduced.

  • Patent number: 9451079
Abstract: A system is provided which is capable of connecting a call without degrading the security level in a mobile terminal network, even when a call addressed to a user equipment (UE) arrives via the Internet or a home network. A femto base station receives a packet addressed to a UE via the Internet or a home network, and starts a paging procedure. The UE establishes an RRC connection to the femto base station. The UE transmits, to the femto base station, a paging response addressed to the SGSN. The femto base station performs NAS verification. If the femto base station detects the paging response to a paging request that the femto base station itself has issued, the femto base station changes the service type of the service request received from the UE from the paging response to signaling.

  • Patent number: 9438384
Abstract: One feature provides for a method operational at an access point in communication with a destination station where the access point receives a stream of data including at least one media access control protocol data unit (MPDU) having a Differentiated Services Code Point (DSCP) field value, provides a retransmission policy to the MPDU based on the DSCP field value, and transmits the MPDU to the destination station via a wireless local area network. The stream of data may include a stream of video data having a layered modulation scheme, where the DSCP field value identifies at least one layer of the layered modulation scheme. The access point may use deep packet inspection to retrieve the DSCP value from the MPDU. In this fashion, multiple retransmission policies may be provided for a single data stream by mapping DSCP field values to MPDU bit fields, such as the Traffic Identifier field.
