  • Patent number: 9445252
Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing a service at an incident scene is provided herein. During operation, a device will enter a geographic area (e.g., an incident scene), join a local-area network (LAN), and determine what services are presently being offered by other devices on the LAN. From a list of services deployed on the device, a determination is then made as to what services the device will run, and those services are then offered to all devices on the LAN.

  • Patent number: 9445421
Abstract: A method and system are described for managing radio frequency layer priority settings for radio access network nodes in a mobile wireless network. A programmed server is configured with an initial configuration of the trigger definitions and corresponding radio frequency layer priority settings. Thereafter, the programmed server applies current conditions bearing upon a conditional area to a conditional area trigger definition. The programmed server then issues, based upon the application of the current conditions to the conditional area trigger definition, a message to re-designate radio frequency layer priority settings for a cell. The programmed server thereafter receives network characteristics feedback.

  • Patent number: 9402146
Abstract: An un-provisioned user device may send, via a cellular network, a request associated with receiving a service provided by a service provider. The user device may receive, via the cellular network, a response indicating that the user device has limited access to the cellular network. The user device may identify, based on a user account with which the user device is to be associated, a particular existing mobile directory number (MDN), associated with the user account, that is to be moved to the user device. The user device may send, via the cellular network, a movement request to move the particular existing MDN to the user device. The movement request may be sent to cause the particular existing MDN to be associated with the user device such that the user device is provisioned to receive the service using the particular existing MDN.

  • Patent number: 9374769
Abstract: Embodiments provide an enhanced approach for Higher Priority Public Land Mobile Network (HPPLMN) search. In one embodiment, information acquired during a search (for each detected cell per frequency channel) is saved in a database and persisted in the database based on a validity time. An idle mode-to-connected mode transition by the UE, rather than aborting the search, only suspends the search for it to be resumed at a later time upon a connected mode-to-idle mode transition by the UE. Saved search data that is valid at the time of the transition is maintained and the frequency channel(s) associated with it is not re-searched in the current search. In an embodiment, the search is resumed based on weights that are associated with frequency channels, where a weight indicates a priority for visiting the frequency channel.

  • Patent number: 9369958
Abstract: A method detects misconfiguration of a wireless network which wastes battery power in mobile devices within a location area of the network. A data collection agent installed in a wireless device records and reports idle-mode handovers. An analytics circuit reads RF measurements and locations from these reports to suggest where handover zones may be optimized or IRAT cell resection parameters are defective. A mobile device may self-tune battery consumption by determining its individual location areas of high battery consumption; desensitizing itself to cell signal strength instability; and increasing its tenacity to a most recently used cell.

  • Patent number: 9344967
Abstract: A wireless apparatus including a machine-to-machine (M2M) device. The M2M device has an applications processing element, RF transceive elements, and a deep sleep controller. The applications processing element executes one or more functions corresponding to an M2M processing environment, and directs the transmission and reception of radio frequency (RF) messages. The RF transceive elements are operationally coupled to the applications processing elements and transmit and receive the RF messages over the one or more wireless communications links. The deep sleep controller is coupled to the applications processing element and the RF transceive elements, and directs the applications processing element to request a sleep time from a corresponding base station, and causes the M2M device to enter a deep sleep mode upon acceptance of the sleep time by the corresponding base station, where the deep sleep mode is entered by removing power from the RF transceive elements.
