  • Patent number: 4787972
Abstract: A two-stage filter apparatus for removing particles entrained in a liquid wherein the liquid is initially presented to the first filter stage having an endless filter belt for removal of a portion of the entrained particles to result in a liquid having a decreased density of particles. This resulting liquid of decreased density is then presented to a cyclone filter in the second filter stage and divided into two parts, one part which is substantially free of any particles which is then available for its intended use and a second part that is presented to another endless filter belt and returned serially to the first filter and then the second filter stages for subsequent filtering of particles.

  • Patent number: 4778636
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of manufacturing plastic, electrically conductive pressure-formed plates from thermoplastic plastic particles which are mechanically formed. In this method, mechanically formed, thermoplastic particles, each particle having maximum particle diameter in the range of about 1 mm to about 10 mm in the middle of the particle, are mechanically mixed with an amount of at least one electric-current-conducting substance sufficient to provide electrical conductivity. The electric-current-conducting substance is furnished in the form of a plurality of particulate, electrically conducting solid bodies, said mixing being effected in the temperature region below the glass temperature (Tg) of the thermoplastic plastic material of which the thermoplastic particles are comprised. The mixture thus produced is compressed to form plastic pressure-formed plates by means of a pressure-forming device.

  • Patent number: 4775487
Abstract: A continuous separation apparatus having a plurality of separation chambers in a continuously rotating block between fixed end plates. The axis of the chambers, preferably cylinders, is parallel to the axis of rotation of the block, wherein the end plates are provided with stationary inlet and discharge ports which overlap openings in the cylinders as the cylinders rotate so that cylinders are constantly being filled by forcing a free-floating piston to one end of the cylinder, cylinder contents are separated by hydraulically forcing the piston toward the fill end of the cylinder where the liquid is removed through screen means at the fill end of the cylinder and solid contents evacuated through an end plate port. The cylinder block continues rotation to permit a constant flow into the apparatus, a continuous removal of separated fluid and a constant separated solids flow from the apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4774010
Abstract: A tank filter having a drag conveyor circulating through the tank interior, the conveyor having flights frictionally engaging a disposable filter media belt to advance the same through the tank during indexing cycles, the belt unconnected to the conveyor to readily separate from the conveyor after passing out of the tank. A distributed bias force generating arrangement is employed to establish a sufficient frictional engagement of the conveyor flights to reliably drive the filter media belt, the arrangement comprised of a pair of spring loaded bars acting on the conveyor to urge the conveyor flights into frictional engagement with the filter media belt, allowing the use of a more steeply inclined exit end wall for a more compact tank structure.

  • Patent number: 4774002
Abstract: A method of treating a liquid, for example dewatering a sludge by ultrafiltration, in which the liquid is caused to flow repeatedly along a permeable walled tube (22) so that a filtrate passes through the wall of the tube, the progress of the treatment being monitored by monitoring the pressure difference between the ends of the tube (22). The method has enabled sludges of widely varying compositions to be dewatered to produce products of uniform viscosity, suitable for subsequent immobilization by cementation.

  • Patent number: 4759858
Abstract: The invention relates to an improved process and apparatus to produce a filter cake formed by retained solids collected on a filter cloth during filtering. Accordingly, the filter cake is sub-divided into a plurality of filter cake elements which are kept separate from each other at predetermined distances. Further, impermeable zones on the filter cloth are formed around the filter cake elements. The filter cake elements and the impermeable zones are of a size that the filter cake elements can freely contract in any plane without cracking, while the filter cloth between the filter cake elements is covered by the impermeable zones.
