  • Patent number: 6623083
Abstract: Improvements to cold cutting equipment of road surfaces with independent side protection guards, integral with skids resting against the ground complete with curved slots with concave parts facing a central point, substantially coinciding with the center of rotation of a cutting drum. In the slots, a thrust pin and a guide pin are engaged, respectively, which allow the skids, integral with the side guards, to constantly maintain a chase cutting depth, within operational tolerance limits, so that it is not affected by oscillation caused by a variation of a position of a cutter supporting structure due to uneven ground or irregular movements of components that carry the road cutter structure.

  • Patent number: 6615423
Abstract: A patient transfer assembly using the movement of a structure as a source of power for moving a sheet across a structure having a transfer surface, a stationary base and a movable platform. The patient transfer assembly includes a gripper adapted for attached to the sheet on the transfer surface and a cable coupled to the gripper and entrained around a guide pulley fixed relative to the movable platform. When the movable platform moves from one position to a second position, the cable pulls the gripper thereby pulling the sheet and moving the patient. The patient transfer assembly may also include a second cable and drive shaft to assist in moving the patient as well as a trapeze to assist in rotating or lifting the patient.

  • Patent number: 6616380
Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention provides for a subterranean structure, having a continuous ribbon slab having a plurality of flights fabricated from concrete. The ribbon slab defines periodic openings therein which generally align between adjacent flights. Another embodiment provides for a method of fabricating a subterranean structure. The method includes excavating soil to form a downward sloping ramp, and forming a concrete slab on the downward sloping ramp. The method further includes continuing to excavate soil to extend the downward sloping ramp to a location under the concrete slab, and continuing to form the concrete slab on the downward sloping ramp so that a subterranean structure is formed having an essentially continuous concrete slab with a first portion which is above and spaced-apart from a second portion.

  • Patent number: 6601251
Abstract: A medical bed including a frame supported on pivoted support members wherein pivoting of the support members results in vertical movement of a patient support surface of the bed. The pivoting of the support members is accomplished by motors which are actuated by a control circuit operating in response to operator actuated switches. The bed is movable between uppermost and lowermost positions wherein a lower intermediate position is provided adjacent to and vertically spaced from the lowermost position, and an upper intermediate position is provided adjacent to and vertically spaced from the uppermost position. The controller operates to automatically stop vertical movement of the bed when it reaches either the lower intermediate position or the upper intermediate position.

  • Patent number: 6595726
Abstract: A retaining wall system formed from a wire facing unit having an upstanding face section and a rearwardly extending floor section the rear end of which is provided with aligned, transversely extending, openings defined by upstanding, inserted U-shaped, in the wire elements. The apertures in the forward portion of a geogrid, preferably an integral, uniaxially-stretched, polymer geogrid, can be seated over the protuberances and a connecting rod inserted through the openings to secure the geogrid to the wire facing unit. Strengthening struts can be engaged between cross-wires at the top of the face section of the wire facing unit and at the rear of the floor section of the wire facing unit. An aggregate, including soil or the like, can then be placed behind the face section and over the floor section of the wire facing unit and over the geogrid to form a geogrid-reinforced retaining wall section.

  • Patent number: 6594834
Abstract: An article of furniture which is readily convertible from a loveseat to a baby crib and vice versa. The loveseat/baby crib includes two main parts: a mattress supporting assembly and a frame assembly. The frame assembly includes a pair of side end panels, a vertically movable front side rail, and an immobile rear rail disposed between the panels. The mattress supporting assembly has a drawer for storing the baby crib mattress. A vertical sliding assembly connects the frame assembly to the mattress supporting assembly. The vertical sliding assembly allows the frame assembly to be height adjustable with respect to the mattress supporting assembly. The movable front side rail can be stored in the rear of the rear side rail in another embodiment by modifying the two rails.

  • Patent number: 6564408
Abstract: A nursing pillow for supporting an infant on the lap of a user includes a main pillow body having a lower surface and an opposed upper surface interconnected by a front edge, a rear edge and a pair of opposed sides. The pillow body includes a mid portion with a first end and a second end. The upper surface of the mid portion slopes downwardly from side-to-side such that the upper surface of mid portion is higher at the first end and lower at the second end. The pillow body also includes a side portion adjacent the second end of the mid portion. The upper surface of the side portion is raised relative to the second end of the mid portion such that the upper surface of the pillow body steps upwardly from the second end of the mid portion to the side portion.

  • Patent number: 6554541
Abstract: A method and a device for use in the placing of a suction anchor (1) with an attached anchor chain (2) on the ocean bed. The suction anchor (1) and the anchor chain (2) are to be lowered separately to the ocean bed, and be connected at the ocean bed without any use, worth mentioning, of mechanically movable parts or closing mechanisms, the process is to take place by means of gravity and in as few operations and with as few pieces of expensive utility equipment as possible. This is done in that the suction anchor (1) and the anchor chain (2) are connected by means of a guiding element (6) with a lower locking element (7) arranged thereto, and a connecting element (3). The connecting element (3) is positioned at the lower end of the anchor chain (2) and adapted for insertion into the guiding and locking elements (6, 7). The guiding and locking elements (6, 7) are positioned on the side wall (12) of the suction anchor.
