  • Patent number: 8650265
Abstract: The World Wide Web portion of the Internet is largely supported by advertising. To deliver the most effective advertising, a system for dynamically creating customized advertisements is introduced. The behavior and any demographic information known about web viewers is used to select an advertising template that will be used to create an advertisement. The advertisement template comprises an incomplete advertisement with certain missing information along with identifiers for functions that may be used to complete the advertisement. In one embodiment, the functions may specify how the advertiser associated with the advertisement template may be contacted with the demographic information known about the user in order to fill in the missing portions of advertisement template. For example, the advertisement may concern flights to Hawaii and the advertiser may fill in the price of a flight to Hawaii based upon being provided with the user's location. The complete advertisement may then be displayed to the user.

  • Patent number: 8650295
Abstract: Technology for network security is disclosed. In one embodiment, a method of managing network security includes receiving sampled packets. The sampled packets represent packets being sampled from network packet traffic in at least one location in a network. The sampled packets are converted into an appropriate format for analysis to form converted packets. Moreover, the converted packets are sent to a first group including at least one security device for analysis. If an event message is generated by the at least one security device as a result of analysis of the converted packets, the event message is received from the at least one security device. Network security is evaluated based on the event message and security policies and is adjusted based on that evaluation. The method may be implemented with a network manager.

  • Patent number: 8615649
Abstract: The invention includes a method for encrypting and transmitting a message M from a first location to a second location. Random numbers P and Q are initially selected, each of them being either a prime or a non-prime number. P and Q are both furnished to a sender and a recipient at the first and second locations, respectively. A client at the first location generates an encrypted message E, which is the remainder left when a modulus operator divides a first quantity, equal to M multiplied by P to the i power, where i is a selected number, by a second quantity equal to (PQ?1). A tuple comprising E and i is transmitted from the first location to the second location, and a second data processing system at the second location to determines the message M from E, i and Q.

  • Patent number: 8606948
Abstract: A logically centralized system or service, such as a cloud-based content management service, enables intelligent communication between disparate devices. Such communication enables content such as applications and data to be synchronized between various devices, where the synchronization takes into account the capabilities of each device to provide versions and/or formats of that content that are appropriate for each device. A user purchasing an additional device, for example, can have various applications and other content automatically installed or copied over to the additional device, but with versions or formats that take advantage of, and are appropriate for, the capabilities of that additional device. Further, the intelligent communication via a logically centralized service can enable such devices to interact even though those devices might utilize different protocols and/or formats, and might otherwise not be able to communicate or have ever have been tested together.

  • Patent number: 8570376
Abstract: The present invention is a method and system for selecting and storing videos by applying semantically-meaningful selection criteria to the track sequences of the trips made by people in an area covered by overlapping multiple cameras. The present invention captures video streams of the people in the area by multiple cameras and tracks the people in each of the video streams, producing track sequences in each video stream. The present invention determines a first set of video segments that contains the trip information of the people, and compacts each of the video streams by removing a second set of video segments that do not contain the trip information of the people from each of the video streams. The present invention selects video segments from the first set of video segments based on predefined selection criteria for the statistical behavior analysis.

  • Patent number: 8543718
Abstract: A technique efficiently and dynamically maintains bidirectional forwarding detection (BFD) on a bundle of links in a computer network. According to the novel technique, one or more “standby” BFD sessions may be established on one or more corresponding line cards (LCs), the LCs having one or more links of the bundle (bundle links). Once established, one of the standby BFD sessions may be selected as an “active” BFD session based on activity of one of the bundle links of the corresponding LC. Also, BFD messages may be transmitted from one of the bundle links of the active BFD session, e.g., the link receiving BFD messages. In response to inactivity of the transmitting link (e.g., failure, removal, etc.), the active BFD session may switch to another available active bundle link, and if no other active bundle links are available to the active BFD session, one of the standby BFD sessions is selected as the new active BFD session.
