  • Patent number: 4118376
Abstract: The present invention is concerned with a hydrocurable composition suitable for use as coatings, adhesives or grouts. The composition contains oxazolidine compounds and free isocyanate group containing prepolymers. The prepolymers are obtained by the reaction of polyisocyanates with special types of dispersions wherein the dispersed phase is synthesized in situ in a dispersing media of polyhydroxyl compounds. The dispersed phase may be a free radical addition polymer, an aminoplast polycondensate or a polyisocyanate addition product. In the last case, the non-isocyanate reactants used to form the dispersed phase are substantially more reactive with isocyanates than the dispersing media. An especially preferred composition is based on urethane oxazolidines and prepolymers of aliphatic or cycloaliphatic isocyanates with dispersions of isocyanate hydrazine or hydrazine hydrate condensates in polyhydroxy-polyethers having molecular weights of 200 to 16,000.

  • Patent number: 4113688
Abstract: A process for rapidly forming dilute aqueous solutions of water-soluble polymer from gels of such polymers is provided. In the process polymer gel is extruded, cut, and slurried in water. The slurry of gel particles is subjected to high shear forces immediately after slurry formation to form a slurry of very fine gel particles. The slurry of fine gel particles is mixed with additional water under low shear conditions to form the dilute aqueous solution of polymer. The process reduces degradation of certain important polymer properties.

  • Patent number: 4111877
Abstract: Novel compounds of the general formula ##STR1## (m = 0 or 1; n = 2 or 3 and R = H or CH.sub.3) are produced by reacting a 2-aminoalkyl alkylene urea with an allyl ester of a carbonylic acid. Among the particular allyl esters disclosed as reactants are diallyl carbonate, allyl and methallyl chloroformate, diallyl and dimethallyl oxalate. The recovered allyl esters of the alkyleneureido amic acid compounds find particular use as functional comonomers for imparting wet adhesion properties to emulsion systems containing vinyl ester polymers used in paints and coating compositions.

  • Patent number: 4110313
Abstract: Epoxy resins, particularly those of the polyglycidyl ether of a polyhydric phenol type, are cured by incorporating therein a polyoxyalkylenepolyamine usually with an accelerator such as a combination of piperazine and an alkanolamine. Rapidity of curing is further improved by substituting from about 50 wt% to 100 wt% of the dithiocarbamate salt of the polyoxyalkylenepolymine for the polyoxyalkylenepolyamine. The epoxy resin products are useful in protective coatings, adhesives, seamless and terrazzo flooring, castings, laminates, and in grouting, potting, encapsulating, caulking and sealing compositions.
