  • Patent number: 7046973
Abstract: A power amplification system for wireless communications monitors wireless signal sequences for worst case or problematic data patterns likely to cause the output voltage of a voltage converter supplying the power amplifier to drop. The signal sequences, which may be data within a single timeslot or data packet or across several timeslots or data packets, are detected by monitoring data patterns, either alone or in conjunction with monitoring voltage, current, or a combination of voltage and current drawn by the power amplifier. Upon detection of triggering signal sequences, the output power level is reduced, either digitally by dropping the output power one or more power levels or in an analog fashion by reducing reference voltages. Monitoring and control units may be included within the voltage converter, the power amplifier, a baseband modulator, and/or a transmission line-up unit.

  • Patent number: 7035599
Abstract: Disclosed is a method and apparatus of transmit diversity that is backward compatible and does not significantly degrade performance in additive white guassan noise (AWGN) conditions using a transmission architecture that incorporates a form of phase sweep transmit diversity (PSTD) referred to herein as biased PSTD. Biased PSTD involves transmitting a signal and a frequency swept version of the same signal over diversity antennas at different power levels. By transmitting the two signals at different power levels, the depths of nulls normally seen in AWGN conditions when PSTD is utilized is reduced and performance degradation in AWGN conditions is mitigated.

  • Patent number: 7020445
Abstract: A radio base station apparatus may include two diversity antennas spaced apart by a distance that allows space diversity, with each diversity antenna functioning as an adaptive array antenna. Each diversity antenna has a corresponding transmitter that includes a calculator that calculates a transmission weight from one of (i) a reception weight determined based on an uplink signal and (ii) direction of arrival information. Each transmitter also has a multiplier that multiplies only a transmission signal for a channel to a specific user by the transmission weight. Also, each transmitter has a transmit power controller that controls the transmit power of the transmission signal, multiplied by the transmission weight, in accordance with a transmit power control signal.

  • Patent number: 6996377
Abstract: In a PLL circuit, the number of LPFs is reduced to one to reduce mounting area and pin number, and to simplify design. In one embodiment, the PLL circuit includes a variable-gain phase comparator, a mixer, an LPF, VCOs, couplers, and a control circuit to controlling the on/off operation of the VCOs. The variable-gain phase comparator is capable of varying a phase difference gain. The on/off of the operation of the VCOs is controlled by the control circuit so that one of the VCOs is turned off. The phase difference conversion gain is varied in accordance with the sensitivity of the VCOs so the number of LPFs required for the PLL circuit can be reduced to only one.

  • Patent number: 6973174
Abstract: In an Intelligent Network, a Service Interaction Media (SIM) device comprising a call handler and a plurality of service code tables manages multiple and simultaneous communications between a service input node such as a Service switching Point (SSP) and at least one network element. The service code tables contain decision information and lists of service interaction scenarios to enable the call handler to manage queries and sessions with network elements. An incoming query is presented from the switch to the SIM through the call handler and the SIM derives a service code based on query information to apply appropriate features and services to the query.

  • Patent number: 6952571
Abstract: A method and system of periodically measuring the signal strength fluctuations in a wireless connection between a portable computer system and a wireless network. The portable computer system has a main processor and a DSP (digital signal processor). The DSP receives instructions from the main processor for controlling the periodic measuring, and subsequent thereto is placed in low power mode. The main processor is placed into a low power mode after sending the instructions. The DSP periodically awakens to measure the signal strength fluctuations while the main processor remains in a low power mode. When the signal strength fluctuation is unacceptable, this triggers the DSP to awaken the main processor. When the signal strength fluctuation is acceptable, the DSP returns to a low power state until the next periodic measuring.

  • Patent number: 6928310
Abstract: An apparatus for supplying power to a mobile phone by utilizing an external power source when a battery of the mobile phone has been exhausted. In a mobile phone having an earphone-microphone connector which can be connected with an earphone-microphone set, the earphone-microphone connector has additional contacts through which external power can be supplied to the mobile phone from an external power source, especially from another mobile phone. Therefore, even when the battery of the mobile phone has been exhausted, a user can make communication through the mobile phone by utilizing external electric power in a simple and easy manner, without largely changing the existing construction of the mobile phone.

  • Patent number: 6829345
Abstract: A method and system enable optimization of trunk group design in a public switched telephone network (PSTN). A community of interest, including two end offices connected by a direct trunk and at least one tandem switch, is identified using out-of band signaling data collected from the PSTN. An application server interfaced to the PSTN determines whether traffic in the community of interest passes through the tandem switch during a predetermined time period. When traffic passes through the tandem switch, the application server further determines whether the direct trunk between the end offices experienced an overflow condition during the same predetermined time period. When the direct trunk did not experience an overflow condition, an exchange code associated with the traffic passing through the tandem switch is designated as a misrouted code. The misrouted code is flagged so that associated traffic is redirected through the direct trunk.

  • Patent number: 6778658
Abstract: A method and system for providing a dialed digit unlock and edit feature for a digital telephone connected to an advanced intelligent network (AIN) wireline network is disclosed. The digital telephone sends at least one digit of a called party number to an originating ISDN switch. The originating ISDN switch determines whether a Q.931 CALL PROCEEDING call control message has been sent from the originating ISDN switch to the digital telephone. If so, then the dialed digit unlock and edit feature is disabled. However, if the Q.931 CALL PROCEEDING call control message has not been sent, then the originating ISDN switch determines whether a key to enable the dialed digit unlock and edit feature has been entered on the digital telephone. If the key has been entered, then the last digit(s) entered for the called party number are erased and the originating ISDN switch awaits a new digit(s) to be entered into the digital telephone.
