    Abstract: A wiping article is provided which includes an effervescent cleanser composition held within a pouch formed from a first and second substrate sheet. At least one of the substrate sheets must be water permeable. The effervescent composition is an intimate mixture of an acid material such as citric acid and an alkaline material such as sodium bicarbonate. Water contact causes the combination to effervesce. A dry surfactant such as sodium cocoyl isethionate in contact with the water and effervescing carbon dioxide results in a highly pleasant sudsing system. Skin benefit agents may be included within the composition. The effervescent action may improve deposition of the skin benefit agents onto the skin.

Because of the presence of the volatile substance in the composition a soft wax easily worked in the hair is obtained when the composition is applied to the hair. This soft wax hardens on the hair when the volatile ingredients evaporate. When the composition includes a propellant gas a wax with a larger surface area (wax snow) is produced, which is likewise easily worked into the hair and very effectively fixes or sets the hair.

As the sustained-release aromatic of the present invention releases a perfume component only when it is decomposed by micro-organisms such as bacteria usually present on the skin or yeast, the amount of perfumes to be used can be extremely reduced. The sustained-release aromatic of the present invention is also excellent in keeping aroma.
