  • Patent number: 8194677
Abstract: A system and method for setting an ad-hoc network in a terminal are provided. The system includes a storage unit for storing a critical value of acceleration of the terminal, an acceleration sensor for measuring the acceleration of the terminal to provide a value of the measured acceleration, and a transmission frame processor for controlling transmission of a Media Access Control (MAC) frame for setting the network depending on whether the value of the acceleration measured by the acceleration sensor exceeds the critical value of acceleration pre-stored in the storage unit. The system performs Radio Frequency (RF) control on the terminals, each of which must operate as a host and a router in the ad-hoc network, using the acceleration sensor, thereby preventing use of unnecessary resources and reducing an amount of unnecessarily broadcast frames.

  • Patent number: 8170058
Abstract: A communications device is provided which receives data frames in FIR communications mode even if the device has failed to normally receive a connect frame in SIR communications mode. A communications device according to the invention includes an incoming frame processing section for receiving an SNRM frame and UI frames in different frame formats. The SNRM frame contains a setting for a connection for data communications. The UI frames contain data. The communications device also includes a reception processing section and connect command notification sections. The reception processing section renders a light reception section stand by for reception of the UI frames in FIR communications mode. The connect command notification sections generate a connect command for output to an upper layer. The connect command enables establishing of the same connection when a data frame is received from another communications device as when a connect frame was received from the other communications device.

  • Patent number: 8107460
Abstract: An IP-telephony system including one or more nodes coupled to a session controller. Each node includes a service gateway coupled to one or more terminals. A first terminal conveys a start page request initiating a page activity between itself and one or more terminating terminals. The session controller receives the start page request and in response, conveys first control signals to one or more service gateways, each first control signal containing information identifying which of the terminals associated with a service gateway is a terminating terminal. In response to the first control signal, each service gateway conveys second control signals to its associated terminating terminals. The first terminal conveys a media packet to the first service gateway during a page activity. The first service gateway forwards the media packet to one or more designated terminating terminals.

  • Patent number: 8072904
Abstract: A communication network apparatus and method for routing communication signals from a source device to a receiving device. The apparatus performs only local processing on communication signals to thereby increase the speed of processing the signals. A plurality of the processing nodes are combined into a plurality of sub-networks that comprise the network apparatus. Each processing node of a sub-network need only process address information pertaining to the node's current layer, one layer above it, if any, and one layer below it, if any. Additionally, each processing node has associated communication signal frequencies/wavelengths that identify the processing node as the intended recipient of the communication signal.

  • Patent number: 8064442
Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention provides a system that performs layer 3 (L3) aware switching in an Ethernet passive optical network (EPON) which includes a central node and at least one remote node. During operation, the system maintains a set of mapping information which indicates a correspondence relationship between a logical link identifier of a remote node, a medium access control (MAC) address for a subscriber coupled to the remote node, and an IP address for the subscriber. Upon receiving a packet which contains an IP address, the system selectively attaches a proper logical link identifier to the packet based on the mapping information and the IP address contained in the packet, thereby allowing only one proper remote node to receive the packet.

  • Patent number: 8031599
Abstract: A signature-based traffic classification method maps traffic into preselected classes of service (CoS). By analyzing a known corpus of data that clearly belongs to identified ones of the preselected classes of service, in a training session the method develops statistics about a chosen set of traffic features. In an analysis session, relative to traffic of the network where QoS treatments are desired (target network), the method obtains statistical information relative to the same chosen set of features for values of one or more predetermined traffic attributes that are associated with connections that are analyzed in the analysis session, yielding a statistical features signature of each of the values of the one or more attributes. A classification process then establishes a mapping between values of the one or more predetermined traffic attributes and the preselected classes of service, leading to the establishment of QoS treatment rules.

  • Patent number: 7953097
Abstract: The invention is directed to providing NDP mediation over an IP interworking VLL. ICMPv6 Neighbor Discovery and Inverse Neighbor Discovery messages are intercepted by provider edge (PE) devices to learn both IPv6 interface addresses and link-layer addresses of customer edge (CE) devices before forwarding the messages to the CE devices, and in some cases after altering the messages to make them more meaningful to the receiving CE devices. In this manner, the CE device interface addresses do not need to be communicated over the LDP control link, as in IPv4 ARP Mediation.

  • Patent number: 7936676
Abstract: A wireless network access point is described which provides the resources of a backbone network to wireless clients. The access point is able to balance loads by deferring association of new clients and thereby directing clients to associate with alternative access points having improved backbone connectivity. Where the client is unable to find an alternative access point, the client will eventually make a second association request to the access point. The access point, in identifying the second association request of the client, proceeds to associate the client in response to the second association request. Specific time limits can be imposed relative to the second association request.

  • Patent number: 7889729
Abstract: A system and method are provided for fairly distributing grants for access to switch outputs, through crossbars, between switch input channels. Crossbars are granted access between specified switch inputs and switch outputs, and the least recently used input channels are associated with selected switch outputs. A history of the previous channel transaction is maintained for each switch output, and channels are nominated in a rotation through a priority channel list. The present invention bid grant algorithm permits information packets to be transferred across a switch in the time between a bid submission and a bid grant.

  • Patent number: 7885269
Abstract: Networks may be analyzed using Steiner trees. In an example embodiment, a method includes acts of receiving, accepting, creating, and analyzing. Data specifying a network is received. Steiner tree parameters are accepted. A Steiner tree model is created on the data specifying the network responsive to the Steiner tree parameters. The Steiner tree model includes a local representation having a depth constraint for neighborhood vertices. The data specifying the network is analyzed to ascertain a Steiner tree solution based on the Steiner tree model, which includes the local representation, and using a locally-oriented combinatorial algorithm.
